This sermon examines the life of King Amaziah to illustrate the destructive power of pride when it resists divine correction. While Amaziah initially demonstrates faithfulness by obeying God and trusting Him over human alliances, his character is ultimately defined by his refusal to abandon the idols of Edom. The central theological argument posits that Amaziah's downfall stems not merely from his idolatry, but from his arrogant rejection of God's prophetic counsel, which leads to his military defeat and eventual assassination by his own subjects. The message serves as a pastoral warning that while God is gracious in offering forgiveness, persistent pride invites judgment and humiliation. Listeners are encouraged to embrace humility through the understanding of the Gospel, recognizing that self-submission to God is far preferable to being broken by His discipline.

September 23, 1857, will forever go down in the pages of church history as the date that God began the great work of the noon day prayer revival in New York City under the instrumentation of a layman, Jeremiah Lanphier. This meditation was delivered on the anniversary of that day and considers the first 30 minutes of silence that preceded what would become the greatest prayer awakening the world has ever seen.

A most fitting meditation on the topic of FORGIVENESS brought on this SEPT 11.
