In this episode, we examine the testimony of emergency medicine physician Dr. Kelly McDonough, who took the stand in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused in the deaths of her three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. Dr. McDonough described Clancy’s condition when emergency responders found her outside her Massachusetts home after she had fallen from a second-story window. She testified about Clancy’s serious injuries, including her inability to move her legs, and detailed the medical treatment she received after being transported to the hospital. We break down what the emergency physician’s testimony established about Clancy’s physical condition, the injuries documented by medical professionals, and the significance of that testimony within the broader case. As a therapist, I also discuss the testimony from a clinical perspective—examining what the medical evidence can and cannot tell us about Clancy’s mental state, behavior, and the events surrounding the deaths of her children. Matascastillo is a multilingual and multicultural mental health professional with a background in military service, clinical social work, forensic psychology, and crisis negotiation. Born in Guatemala City and raised in Chicago, he joined the United States Army at age 17 and served for more than 18 years, including deployment to Iraq as a First Sergeant. After leaving the military in 2007, he earned his Master of Social Work degree from Augsburg College in 2010. He received formal training in EMDR, DBT, and Healing of Memories, and specializes in working with veterans, first responders, Latino communities, individuals with serious mental illness, and domestic abuse programming. Dr. Matascastillo also serves as a mental health consultant and crisis negotiator for the Minneapolis Police Department SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team and completed the FBI Citizen’s Academy. This was another fantastic episode in the books. I had the great pleasure of having Amitty Cooper on my show to discuss all things involving entrepreneur! In 2011, Shannon was approached by a U.S. Veteran of the Iraq conflict who sought her assistance with his service dog.
