In this episode Tibet House US President Robert A.F. Thurman, Columbia University Professor David Kittay, and L.A. based artist David Orr discuss the history and practice of mandala creation across traditions as well as Orr's solo exhibition "Radiance + Reflection: Mandalas and Moon". The exhibition is organized around two bodies of work emerging from Orr’s interests where philosophy and science align: ILLUMINED, wherein photographs of sacred manuscripts, texts, and sūtras are digitally recombined into abstract forms, and Mandala Lunae, moon photography which Orr arranges into complex geometries, a series begun and developed when he had to stay-in-place during the pandemic. All the works in Radiance + Reflection serve as visual meditations on light. Bossis, Anya Loizaga-Velder, and Prof. David Komodo Kittay recorded at the Force For Good Class series held at Tibet House US in New York City in 2019. Professor Dr. David Kittay teaches courses on Buddhism and technology at Columbia University, where his courses are called “life-changing.” Dr. Kittay chairs the Executive Committee of Tibet House US and is President of the Tibetan Classics Translators Guild of New York. He also writes and lectures on the subject of compassionate lawyering, and has served as a trial and civil rights lawyer, federal bankruptcy trustee and a receiver for the Securities Exchange Commission. He is currently Director and Professor of Philosophy at the Harlem Clemente Course for the Humanities, teaching humanities to economically disadvantaged people in Harlem.
