Welcome back to YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING: A BRITISH SITCOM PODCAST In our latest end of the month Extra Laughs bonus episode host Robert Turnbull and Alex Lynch celebrate its anniversery by talking a fond look back at The Office... but not The Office The Office, we're looking slightly firther back at The Office the 1996 ITV sitcom pilot from Stephen Moffat. Staring, among others, Robert Lindsay and Rebecca Front, this single episode predates The Office The Office by several years and features a variety of office based shenanigans from running around naked to impersonating twins and we try and figure out if it deserved a full series... Welcome back to YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING: A BRITISH SITCOM PODCAST! In this episode of You Have Been Watching, hosts A. J. Black and Robert Turnbull join forces to examine of the more legendary political satires of the 90s, 1994's The Day Today. Arguably 'sitcom adjacent' in style, this mock current affairs news programme helped launch the ships of a thousand careers, from Chris Morris to Steve Coogan to Rebecca Front and more, not to mention providing the first on-screen appearance of Alan Partridge. Welcome back to YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING: A BRITISH SITCOM PODCAST! In this episode of You Have Been Watching, hostsw A. J. Black and Robert Turnbull join forces to attack a topic they've looked forward to for a while - assembling six British sitcoms (or rather, shitcoms) they never should have made. They wade through Heil Honey I'm Home!, Sam's Game, Curry and Chips, Slinger's Day, Bottle Boys and finally (cheating slightly) Come Fly With Me, examining how across 40 years of sitcoms some of these shows are allowed to be made, in what context, and without trying too hard to bury them under cultural recency bias, figure out whether they have any artistic merit all these years on... NOTE: While no problematic language is used in this episode, we do discuss topics which might be considered triggering at some points. Exercise caution when listening. But don't blame us if you don't! Host/Editor A. J. Welcome back to YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING: A BRITISH SITCOM PODCAST! Crack open the peapod burgundy and join hosts Robert Turnbull and Alex Lynch as they head back to the suburban 70s to discuss The Good Life. Welcome back to YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING: A BRITISH SITCOM PODCAST. In this episode, your hosts Tony Black and Rob Turnbull discuss Bottom, the legendary violent cult comedy from 1991 to 1995 written by and starring Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson. Following the sad lives of Hammersmith residents Richard Richard and Edward Elizabeth Hitler, Bottom depicts two lazy, unemployed, perverted middle aged men beautifully. Richie wants to get laid. Eddie wants to drink. Both end up trapped in a hyper-real, comic-book Samuel Beckett world of nihilistic nonsense. How well has the stylised world Rik & Ade created held up over the last 30 years? Plus! Tony is joined by Paul Tanter, one of the co-authors of Talking Bottom: A Guide to the Cult Sitcom, to discuss the show, comedy and much more. We can honestly say they get deep inside Bottom and get the most out of it. Phwoaaaaar! Host/Editor A. J. Welcome back to YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING: A BRITISH SITCOM PODCAST. In this episode, your hosts Tony Black and Rob Turnbull discuss The Cockfields from writers Joe Wilkinson & David Earl, which ran from 2019 to 2021. Starring Wilkinson, Sue Johnston and initially Diane Morgan and Bobby Ball, it concerns the titular family on the Isle of Wight and all their eccentricities during a visit to the pastoral family home. Cast changes were forced in part by COVID-19 for a second season that perhaps outdoes the first. But is this gentle comedy a quiet great that too few people have discovered? Listen and find out!
