Coming from the likes of electronic music, jazz, progressive rock, indie and many other music, Le Ministère is an electronic groove progressive oriented quintet. It's eclectic influence and style is well reflected in the first EP of the band, called also "Le Ministère". Active since 2020, Le Ministère has been playing in the Brussels and Belgium scene for a while. From the stages in the capital to open air scenarios in Fête de la Musique in Liège, sharing the stage with the likes of Echofarmer. In this podcast, LEFTO speaks with the band about how they came together and their what musical influences are.

Kin Gajo blends groove-based jazz and instrumental hip-hop, experimenting in an unusual formation. Consisting of saxophone, accordion and drums, this trio is characterized by their infectious rhythms and catchy melodies. Their music transcends boundaries of genre and culture, using improvisation as an element for a more free approach. Kin, meaning a group or clan. Gajo, Romani word for a person living in or very nearby a society or culture without being part of it. Bodies is a quartet born in Brussels in January 2022, gathered around the music of saxophone player Alejandra Borzyk, Chae Yeon Lee (keys), Mateusz Malcharek (electric bass) and Elie Gouleme (drums). Bodies melt the sounds of modern jazz and improvisations into different danceable grooves like drum’n’bass, dream pop or techno, using different effects to create an ambiguous but groovy soundscape.

Abstract Inc. is een sextet met aan het hoofd van de company Machiel Heremans. Hij schrijft de muziek tot in de puntjes uit. Na lang twijfelen ging hij toch voor een zesde bandlid ondanks de extra organisatorische rompslomp.

Eliott Knuets mocht al mee luisteren naar de beste jazz toen hij nog niet geboren was. Eénmaal geboren pakte hij ieder object vast om als gitaar te bespelen. Zijn eerste echte gitaar liet dan ook niet lang op zich wachten: "voor ik kon lezen, kon ik gitaar spelen". Van jazz moest hij langs niets weten, Eliott wou een rockster worden. Uiteindelijk krijgt hij op zijn 13de de jazz kriebels te pakken via zijn leraar Peter Hertmans. Drie jaar later komt hij per toeval op het podium terecht met de legendarische Wynton Marsalis tijdens een jam in Bozar Brussel. Vanaf dan ging de bal aan het rollen en speelde hij onder andere al samen met het Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Vandaag probeert hij om dat laatste jaar middelbaar mooi af te ronden terwijl hij het ene concert na het andere speelt: "als je echt weet wat je wilt doen en je al gelanceerd bent, is het super frustrerend om nog altijd naar de les te moeten blijven gaan."

KASSIUS isn't new in town but after a reflective and creative periode during the pandemic, they feel like KASSIUS has finally become what it was meant to be. They threw out the music sheets and started producing their music in the studio, then bringing it to a live composition. In the rehearsal room they only focus on the live aspect and try to have a good time: "if you manage to capture the energy of a couple of friends in a room just having fun, a song can't be bad".

KAU trio. is an international trio based in Brussels. They met at the age of 13 in an international school and felt immediately a connection between them because of their love for music. After being together in a school rock band, the pandemic created a new moment to start a new project. They call their music instrumental jazz hiphop. For some tracks they invite other musicians but: "it's just like making bread and then you add the sauce on top. The sauce is the guest, we are the bread." This is just one of the many oneliners. Lũpḁ Gang Gang Quartet ontstond na een geslaagde ontmoeting op een muziekstage in Dworp. Niet veel later spraken ze af voor een eerste repetitie in Herentals en daar geschiedde de oerknal! Sindsdien zijn ze niet meer te temmen. De vier jonge leeuwen hebben hun muzikale invloeden te danken aan hun ouders. Maar na 4 jaar Lũpḁ Gang Gang Quartet kiezen ze steeds meer voor een sound met een serieuze hoek af: "de mensen die ons live zien appreciëren het heel hard dat onze muziek prettig gestoord klinkt. Onze ouders vinden het wel soms iets te wild. Misschien is onze muziek wel minder toegankelijk geworden voor ouders?"

Met hun achtkoppige band, maken de mannen van M. Chuzi het zichzelf niet gemakkelijk; het vinden van een repetitiemoment dat voor iedereen past, een ruimte die groot genoeg is voor acht man en hun instrumenten… Het is geen sinecure, maar wel dikke fun! Ieder bandlid heeft zijn eigen functie, “iedereen vervalt van nature in zijn eigen rol binnen de band”, dat gaat van communicatie en deadlines in het oog houden tot het zonnetje in huis zijn en zorgen voor good vibes.
