The Fatal Choice: Part 2 (Matthew 27:11-26)
2026/11/02
As Jesus stood trial before Pilate, we see Pilate making a halfhearted effort to help Jesus, the innocent man, escape the fate the Jews desired for Him. While Pilate tried to convince the crowd to let Jesus go, the chief priests and elders manipulated the crowd to favor a murder and condemn the innocent. In the end, the Jews joyfully embraced the full guilt for condemning Jesus. A sermon preached by Pastor Caleb at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN.
The Fatal Choice: Part 1 (Matthew 27:11-26)
2026/10/25
After Jesus' arrest, Pontius Pilate asks the crowd “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” The crowd calls for Barabbas to be spared and for Christ to be crucified. In this sermon we examine the details surrounding this fatal choice. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. For more information, visit LegacyRBC.org.
Comfort in Conflict (1 John 2:18-19)
2026/10/18
As we continue our study of 1 John, we come to 1 John 2:18-19. Here we see the difficult reality that not all who profess to be believers truly are. While the conflicts that come from this can be difficult, we can take comfort in the fact that Christ will preserve His church. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. For more information, visit LegacyRBC.org.
The Inadequacy of Regret (Matthew 27:1-10)
2026/10/12
After betraying Jesus, Judas changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. But was this an act of repentance, or merely a sign of regret? In this sermon on Matthew 27:1-10, we will explore the important distinction between these two. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. Denying Christ (Matthew 26:69-75)
2026/10/04
In Matthew 26:69–75, Peter’s confident promises give way to a threefold denial of Christ. Though he had heard Jesus’ warnings, witnessed His power, and insisted that he would never fall away, Peter crumbled under pressure and even denied knowing his Lord. This passage challenges us to recognize our own weakness, remember what Christ has taught us, and resist the seemingly small temptations to hide, compromise, or deny our allegiance to Him. The World...Or God (1 John 2:15-17)
2026/09/28
Scripture warns that if we love the world, the love of the Father is not in us. But what is meant by 'the world' in this sense? And how can we avoid being enticed to love temporary things more than eternal ones? In this sermon, Pastor Rylan guides us through 1 John 2:15-17. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. For more information, visit LegacyRBC.org.
Tried by Evil Men (Matthew 26:57-68)
2026/09/21
After arresting Jesus, the authorities hold a kangaroo court before the High Priest. Despite a failure to find reliable witnesses, Jesus' own words are misrepresented in order to declare Him guilty of blasphemy - the greatest miscarriage of justice the world has ever known. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. For more information, visit LegacyRBC.org.
Jesus Betrayed and Arrested (Matthew 26:47-56)
2026/09/14
In Matthew 26:47–56, Jesus is betrayed into the hands of His enemies in the darkness of night. Judas approaches with an act of treachery disguised as friendship, while Peter responds with an act of loyalty that, though sincere, earns Jesus’ rebuke because it stands against the Father’s ordained plan. In this dark hour, sinful men carry out dark deeds—but even their betrayal, violence, and arrest cannot overturn God’s sovereign purpose, as the Scriptures are fulfilled and Jesus willingly goes forward toward the cross. Anguish, Prayer, and Failure (Matthew 26:36-46)
2026/09/06
The night before the crucifixion turned into very long night. Long after Jesus and the disciples celebrated the Passover, they were across the valley on the western slopes of the Mount of Olives. There they would find themselves tested and tried. While Jesus suffered in agony and sought relief in prayer, the disciples proved unequal to the task of providing comfort and encouragement. He would stand strong in the coming trials, while they would all fall away, just as He had said. A sermon preached by Pastor Caleb at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN.
Defined By God (1 John 2:12-14)
2026/08/30
How do you define yourself? People come up with many answers, and our society pushes many others. For the Christian, we must answer that question through the Word of God. A Sermon preached by Pastor Rylan at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN.
The Sheep Will Be Scattered (Matthew 26:30-35)
2026/08/24
After celebrating the Passover feast with His disciples, Jesus told them that all of them would fall away and abandon Him that night. They all objected, but it was prophesied, and it would happen. Are we ready to stand faithful when we are tested? A sermon preached by Caleb Stomberg at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN
Blood of the Covenant (Matthew 26:26-29)
2026/08/16
When Jesus celebrated Passover with His disciples the night before He was crucified, He did much more than just give a fresh look at an old practice. He gave a radially new way to understand God's previous work, and illustrate the glory of what He was about to accomplish in His death and resurrection. Now, we don't look back to Egypt to remember God's salvation, we look to Christ as the true purpose of God's redemptive work. Instead of celebrating Passover, we celebrate the Lord's Supper remembering the broken body and shed blood of our Lord and King. The shed blood which was the blood of the new and better covenant. There is so much more to this familiar passage then most of us realize. A sermon preached by Pastor Caleb at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church, in East Grand Forks, MN.
The Last Passover (Matthew 26:17-25)
2026/08/10
Passover was the central event of the first-century Jewish religious calendar. Jesus greatly desired to celebrate Passover with His disciples one final time just before His crucifixion. It was during that time where Jesus revealed that one of them would betray Him. Lest we think we are stronger than we are, it is good to be reminded that the only reason we will remain faithful is because of the continued grace of God in our lives. A sermon preached by Pastor Caleb at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN
Pastor Rylan's Ordination Service
2026/08/03
We celebrated an important first at Legacy, the raising up of a new Elder. In this ordination message, Pastor Caleb reminds us of God's designed structure for the church, gives the new Elder a pastoral charge, and then gives the congregation as a whole a charge concerning their responsibilities to their pastors.
God's People and Love (1 John 2:7-11)
2026/07/26
For God's people, loving one another is both a very ancient command, and a new law which takes on greater prominence because of the Gospel. The Gospel truly does change everything. A Sermon preached by Brother Rylan at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN
