Description

It's time to take a fundamentally different approach to improving your health and energy. I've seen patients and clients obsessively tweak diet and exercise, while ignoring the connection between the mind and metabolism. Fasting longer and exercising harder has resulted in many broken bodies and defeated minds in my clinic, and I've personally been down that road as well. This podcast takes a different approach that explores the intersection of metabolic health and mindfulness through science, deep personal exploration, and creative storytelling to provide a more balanced approach to health that will improve energy and well-being. S2E21: The SOL Approach to Staying Centered
2026/10/08
We discussed the SUIT in prior episodes. Now it's time to introduce its counterpart: the SOL. The SOL framework is a simple way to navigate daily life without constantly getting knocked off center. We discuss: A brief overview of the SUIT from Episode 19 The strange dream that led me to SOL and how it has been an anchor  Activities that awaken SOL Simple ways to recognize SOL to keep you grounded during your day A personal story on going from peaceful yoga to road rage within an instant A realistic everyday goal to help you with greater balance and inner peace
S2E20: The Envy Economy-Comparison, Competition, and Why Enough Is Never Enough
2026/09/08
The Envy Economy explores why comparison can make even extraordinary success feel like it's never enough. Using Silicon Valley as a model of envy at scale, I look at how the scoreboards we carry around shape our emotions, behavior, and health. In my clinic and workshops, I'm increasingly seeing envy and comparison beneath a surprising amount of emotional distress and metabolic diseae. Some areas I discuss include: Why envy is so difficult to admit, even to ourselves How family, culture, and environment program our internal scoreboards Why we often envy people who are most similar to us Silicon Valley lessons of envy at scale The impact of envy and competitition on parenting How to free ourselves from the effects of envy
S2E19: The Suit-A Tool to Reclaim Energy and Break Free
2026/08/26
What if much of the energy we lose each day isn't from what we're doing, but from something entirely different? In this episode, I introduce The SUIT, a framework inspired by a strange realization after taking off a virtual reality suit in Las Vegas. It changed how I think about thoughts, identity, comparison, and the hidden energy we spend maintaining them. Why our senses reveal only a slice of reality Why thoughts are so difficult to separate from How health, fitness, and even our children become an unconscious scoreboard The hidden "Suit-load" draining our energy How imagination, language, and a thousand-year-old practice can help us break free
S2E18: The Power of Words-A New Chapter in My Work
2026/08/11
In this episode, I share a new chapter in my work and why I'm beginning to bring ideas from years of journaling, teaching, and reflection into the Meta Health Podcast. We start with something we encounter every waking hour: words, and the impact they have on us. How my approach to simplifying complex metabolic science is evolving into a broader body of work The hidden power of words to shape our thoughts, emotions, physiology, and behavior Trigger words, including my own, and whether we are POWs What neuroscience teaches us about simplifying and compressing language Why symbols and creative language can become powerful mental anchors for deeper ideas
S2E17: Slower Body, Sharper Mind-Lionel Messi, Aging, and the Limits of AI
2026/06/30
What can soccer superstar Lionel Messi and other older athletes teach us about the unique advantages of an aging brain, even while the physical body loses strength and endurance. Even if you aren't a fan of soccer or sports, you'll learn some fascinating ways to leverage a more experienced brain in the game of life.  The surprising performance metric that helps explain why Lionel Messi excels at age 39. How the aging brain may trade memory for other mental super powers.  How AI (and perfectionism) might weaken one your brain's greatest strengths. Practical ways to cultivate your brain's intrinsic strengths.  How to find "the field" where you thrive at any stage of life.
S2E16: Unfollow Everyone
2026/05/27
What if the constant stream of health advice, influencer content, and AI-generated authority is actually disconnecting you from your own body, intuition, and inner wisdom? In this provocative episode, I explore why blindly following experts (including myself) may be increasing stress, confusion, and having a negative impact on health and wellbeing for many.  Why "doing everything right" still leads many people to burnout, chronic stress, heart disease, and metabolic dysfunction How influencer culture and AI-driven authority can fuel anxiety, dependency, and nervous system overload The hidden physiological cost of constant health optimization and information consumption Why algorithms reward fear, confidence, and certainty over humility and nuance How social media, podcasts, and endless protocols may drown out your body's own signals My own blind spots and what I've learned from participating in influencer culture A practical 7-day experiment to help you reconnect with your own intuition, energy, and internal compass
S2E15: Your Nervous System Has a Speed Limit
2026/03/18
Modern life is faster than our biology can handle. I personally have had to fight my own speeding problem. In this episode, I explore how living at a constantly accelerated pace can quietly trigger adrenaline, inflammation, and long-term disease risk, even in people who appear healthy on paper. We'll cover: Why your nervous system may have a biological speed limit The link between adrenaline and chronic inflammation The forgotten research on "hurry sickness" and heart disease 3 modern adrenaline triggers that go undetected in most people Why speed may be contributing to today's rise in "surprise disease" Simple ways to tap the brakes during the day and reset your nervous system
S2E14 (Unplugged): Lessons from a Family Emergency
2026/02/09
This is an "Unplugged" episode—recorded directly into my phone, no intro music, no production polish. In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and filtered faces and voices, I felt the need to share something raw, immediate, and human. I reflect on my mom's recent fall, the surge of urgency and vigilance that followed, and how I reframed my nervous system not as chronic anxiety—but as a safety network. From a late-night drive through fog to stepping away briefly to give a keynote and receiving unexpected collective support, this episode applies the core lessons of Season 2 to a real-life family emergency many of you may relate to. This is about trust, letting go of control, and recognizing the love and systems that quietly hold us when life feels uncertain.
S2E13: You're Training the Wrong Body
2025/12/23
Modern health culture is obsessed with leanness, discipline, and optimization. But many people are getting leaner—and feeling worse or suffering surprising health consequences.  In this episode, I share my personal experience chasing single-digit body fat and how it led to increased stress, glucose instability, and accelerated aging despite "doing everything right." We explore why body composition alone is an incomplete measure of health and why mental composition—the state of the inner body—matters more than most metrics we track. Key topics include: Body composition vs mental composition Why Blue Zones don't chase six-packs How fear-driven optimization fuels chronic stress How influencers often drive fear-based leanness and longevity goals The physiology behind looking older when you're leaner How to rebuild health in a more sensible way
S2E12: The Family Effect — The Hidden Driver of Chronic Disease and Burnout
2025/12/02
In this episode, I uncover how family dynamics—both loving and dysfunctional—shape our stress patterns, emotional reflexes, and long-term metabolic health. I get personal, sharing my own experiences and those from the clinic and my program.  How your childhood emotional environment shapes adult health Recognizing 3 common family stress patterns  How family dynamics drive burnout, inflammation, and chronic dissease The concept of "Shamilies" and how it quietly affects so many of us The Roseto Effect vs the "Silicon Valley Effect" How to break inherited stress patterns and create a healthier family tradition.
S2E11: The Silent Energy Leak That Drains Us
2025/11/11
There's a quiet form of stress we mistake for normal — a constant readiness that silently drains our energy. I personally discovered it not too long ago, and in this episode I share how to spot it and take your power back. You'll learn: The brain science behind anticipation and anxiety How even a silent phone nearby burns glucose and attention Why this "always-on" state disrupts sleep and mood The benefits of phone-free walks and mindful mornings Simple ways to turn outward alertness into inward awareness Go to my blog at culturalhealthsolutions.com for related resources and show notes on most episodes.
S2E10: Every Day is Head Day-Training the Mind with Better Defense
2025/10/21
Your mind never stops taking shots — so how do you defend your peace? In this episode I explore how to train your mind like an athlete, treating life as a continuous mental game where playing good defense is critical. We cover some of the following: Using an athletic framework to counter our conditioned self (aka ego) Learning to play great defense to protect the mind "Coach Ego" and the myth of multiplicity Simple drills to improve your mental fitness and wellbeing Everyday opportunities to improve awareness Go to my blog at culturalhealthsolutions.com for related resources and show notes on most episodes.
S2E9: Mitochondria, Microbes and Meaning-Thriving from Inside Out
2025/09/23
Your mitochondria and microbes are ancient communities that mirror how we live, connect, and find purpose. We keep turning to the outside to learn from others, instead of tapping into this profound inner wisdom. In this episode, I explore what these inner networks teach us about resilience, loneliness, purpose, and thriving from the inside out. You'll learn: Mitochondria origin story Lessons we can learn from mitochondria and microbial behaviors How Survival fo the Fittest has led us astray How mitochondria and microbes communicate with the brain The loneliness myth and what might matter more than social connection Go to my blog at culturalhealthsolutions.com for related resources and show notes on most episodes.
S2E8: Prompting the Machine to Set You Free
2025/08/28
Prompting AI chatbots is a new skillset humanity has recently acquired. In this episode we use our understanding of how LLMs (Large Language Models) work to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves in an effort to free our minds from ego. We'll cover some of the following:  How AI engines mirror the way our ego runs on old scripts and algorithms Why middle-of-the-night "why" and "how" questions usually come from ego, not your authentic self Meet WAYDE, the imaginary AI Agent I created to help free me Prompts to break mental loops and rewire your responses How habitual self-prompting can help liberate your mind and optimize your physiology Go to my blog at culturalhealthsolutions.com where I post a brief summary and show notes for most episodes with relevant links.
S2E7: Heart Disease Blindspots-What Risk Calculators and AI Miss
2025/08/13
In my clinic, I'm seeing too many individuals with heart disease that's getting missed due to imperfect risk calculators and AI predictions. There are some serious blindspots in our current risk assessment tools. In this episode, we cover: The current risk calculators and why they often underestimate risk Typical examples of a mismatch between true and estimated risk Key blindspots risk calculators miss routinely What you can do to better assess your own risk Lifestyle areas to focus on Go to my blog at culturalhealthsolutions.com where I post a brief summary and show notes for most episodes with relevant links.
