Shell, the multinational energy company, is in a huge transitionary period between servicing drivers of cars with an internal combustion engine (ICE) as well as those buying new electric vehicles (eV). Each require an entirely different set of servicing needs. Drivers of each vehicle type will be assessing how they “fill up” or “top up” their ICE or eVs, respectively, and when and where they do so. It’s an challenge that will be addressed in this episode of On Point with Korem as we interview Tammy Gasan-Dzhalalova, Head of North Americas eMobility at Shell.

Caroline Arnouk is CEO of OPA Technologies, a Montreal-based startup that is meeting the needs of both city transportation managers and citizens alike with publishing near-real time traffic congestion information directly. The sources of data related to road closures, construction sites or other assets under repair come directly from city engineers using an interface developed by OPA. OPA is using geospatial technology to gather and publish these data so that vehicle traffic can flow more smoothly and citizens become a little more friendly on the highway.

Matt Sheehan is the host of the Geospatial Next podcast and strategist for Locana, a Denver based location technology services company. Matt and I take on the notion that geospatial technology is now indispensable to most government or private industry organizations. We challenge the notion that geospatial is just about maps and for that matter, it can’t be only about visualization if it is to become an indispensable part of mainstream enterprise computing solution that everyday knowledge workers will adopt as the differentiating technology for continuous business innovation.

This is Nigel Clifford, the former Chief Executive of the UK Ordnance Survey and now the President of the Royal Geographic Society as well as the current Deputy Commissioner of the UK’s Geospatial Commission. Those experiences illustrate the extent to which Mr. Clifford exerts enormous influence in the development of geospatial innovation and leadership within the UK and globally. Note one very key comment where he says that geospatial technology is now a “general purpose” software solution, meaning that it is as significant and important in everyday use as a word processor or a spreadsheet. Robert B. Murrett is a Professor of Practice on the faculty of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, and serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute for Security Policy and Law at the University. He is also on the adjunct staff of the RAND Corporation and the Institute for Defense Analyses. He serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at SU, the Board of the National Intelligence University Foundation, and is responsible for a series of ongoing research projects between the University and the Syracuse Veterans Administration Medical Center. Previously, Murrett was a career intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy, serving in assignments throughout the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East through his thirty-four years of duty, retiring in the grade of Vice Admiral. His duty stations included service as Operational Intelligence Officer for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Assistant Naval Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway, senior intelligence officer for the U.S. Second Fleet and NATO Striking Fleet Atlantic, and Director for Intelligence, U.S. Joint Forces Command. For his last ten years on active duty, he served as Vice Director for Intelligence, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of Naval Intelligence, and Director of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA).

Javier de la Torre is the Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of CARTO. CARTO’s emergence as one of the key geospatial companies leading innovation in cloud native technologies has transformed the company from being known as only an easy-to-use visualization tool. In fact, CARTO’s focus on bringing analytics to cloud data platforms has it well positioned to take advantage of the inflection point we are seeing in the adoption of location intelligence.

This is Barbara Ryan, the former associate director for geography at the U.S. Geological Survey and former Secretariat director of the Group on Earth Observations and now the executive director of the World Geospatial Industry Council. Having seen the geospatial industry develop from a number of perspectives both in government and non-profit organizations, Ms. Ryan has an extraordinary sense of where the geospatial industry his headed in the next decade and now leads an organization supporting public-private partnerships.
