Today’s lesson is a beautiful reminder that we can always change our minds about what we perceive. Whenever we experience distress, we are looking at the world through an ego filter. Whenever something arises that doesn’t feel peaceful or loving, we can remind ourselves, “There is another way of looking at this.” How simple it is to change our minds! In this ACIM Satsang, Jenny Maria and Barret open with the happy reminder that we are not bodies — that what we truly are is far beyond the limits we have learned to identify with. The body is described as a kind of fence, a construct that seems to contain us, yet can never define the glorious, limitless Self God created. Jenny Maria speaks about how the mind often makes excuses, telling us our situation is too difficult, too unique, or somehow impossible to heal. But these thoughts are exposed as defenses against the power we truly have to change our minds. There is also a beautiful reflection on how quickly we assume something has gone wrong. Instead, Lesson 268 calls us to pause and question that interpretation. A touching story about a brief but profound encounter with a homeless woman becomes a living example of looking past appearances and joining heart-to-heart, without labels or conclusions. The teachings deepen when Jenny asks, “What would we defend if we were not identified with the body? This opens into an undoing of identification with the body and the realization that without defensiveness there would be absolute invulnerability. This lesson tells us that in our determination to see is vision given us. The lesson itself implies that we do not see now. We can use it throughout the day to help us to change our perception of any situation, person or event we find difficulty with. Our minds are extremely powerful and just with this decision to see differently we can change our experience. The more we choose this the more peaceful our experience becomes. This lesson teaches us that we see no neutral things because our thoughts about what we see are not neutral. We do not see anything that is really alive or joyous. Perception is highly variable and so how could it be that we see anything correctly. Our real thoughts are with God, and these are the thoughts that will bring us true happiness.
