Believing in Jesus Is Not the Same as Following Him | The Way Part 2 | Mark Grayless
2026/10/05
Jesus Christ’s invitation in Matthew 11:28–30 promises rest for the weary—and calls us to take His yoke and follow Him. Mark Grayless explores discipleship through Matthew, Acts, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, Solomon, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.
What does Jesus really mean when He says, **“Come to me… and I will give you rest,”** and then immediately tells us to **“take my yoke upon you”**?
In this message, FCC Connections Minister **Mark Grayless** examines Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11:28–30 and the difference between simply believing in Jesus and making the continuing choice to follow Him as a disciple.
We live in a world filled with physical, emotional, financial, relational, and spiritual burdens. Sometimes even religion can feel like another collection of hoops we have to jump through. But Jesus offers something different.
His invitation is to come to Him, give Him our burdens, take up His yoke, learn from Him, and discover the kind of rest that cannot be found anywhere else.
Mark also explores why surrendering control to Jesus isn't oppression, why Christian community matters, and why becoming a disciple is more than a one-time decision.

Explore the true meaning of disciple and what it requires to walk in the way of Jesus today.
This service examines the biblical Greek origins of the word disciple to understand what it truly means to be a learner and student of Christ. We look at scripture to see how Jesus acts as the way to the Father and why following Jesus is often a costly, yet invaluable, commitment.
Whether you are new to faith or have been walking this path for years, this message challenges us to consider the true cost of discipleship in our daily lives. We hope this reflection helps you align your path with His teaching while finding strength in the community of believers.

The Question Isn't Whether We're Being Shaped, But What's Shaping Us | Part 5 | Dan Stribling
2026/09/21
Matthew 5:13–16, Isaiah 49:6, John 8:12, Ephesians 5:8, 1 Peter 2:9–12, Matthew 6:1, and John 13:34 frame Dan Stribling’s Shaped to Shine sermon on salt and light, the church, Jesus, discipleship, good works, and God’s glory. What happens when the church still looks like the church—but no longer looks like Jesus? In Shaped to Shine, Senior Minister Dan Stribling examines Jesus’ words about being the salt of the earth and light of the world in Matthew 5. Jesus did not create His church simply to exist, gather, or look impressive. The church was created for a purpose: to make the light of Jesus visible to the world around us.Dan explores Jesus’ warning about salt losing its saltiness, the meaning behind the Greek language in the passage, Isaiah’s prophecy of a light for the nations, Jesus’ declaration that He is the Light of the World, and Paul and Peter’s calls for Christians to live visibly different lives. The question isn't whether our lives are being shaped. The question is what is shaping us?A church shaped by Jesus should become recognizable through mercy, humility, righteousness, generosity, reconciliation, love, and good works—not so Christians receive the glory, but so others see Jesus through them.CHAPTERS0:00 Shaped to Shine2:49 The Church Was Created for a Purpose4:07 Matthew 5:13–16 — Salt and Light8:39 Jesus Shapes Us to Be Like Him12:14 Appearance Without Character Is Useless13:40 What “Losing Saltiness” Means17:59 Jesus Makes Us Visible18:23 Isaiah 49:6 — Light for the Nations19:21 John 8:12 — Jesus Is the Light21:54 Ephesians 5:8 — Walk as Children of Light23:22 A City on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden26:38 God Gets the Glory29:21 1 Peter 2 — Let Them See Your Good Deeds30:52 Compassion Christmas and Visible Faith32:37 John 13:34 — Love One Another33:47 Three Questions for the Church34:52 The Potter’s Most Useful Pot37:57 Closing PrayerFCC Brazil Sermons shares biblical preaching and teaching designed to help people understand Scripture, follow Jesus, and live out their faith.Key Scriptures: Matthew 5:13–16; Matthew 6:1; Isaiah 49:6; John 8:12; Ephesians 5:8; 1 Peter 2:9–12; John 13:34#ShapedToShine #SaltAndLight #Matthew5 #Jesus #Church #Sermon
The Warning Hidden in Elisha’s Bear Story | 2 Kings 2 Explained
2026/09/14
2 Kings 2, Elijah, Elisha, John 13, Jesus, Peter, Judas, John 14, Romans 12, 1 Peter 5, Hosea, and Leviticus 26 come together in a sermon on biblical humility, servant leadership, reading Scripture carefully, and walking humbly with God.
Some Bible passages are easy to read. Others make us stop and wonder, “What am I supposed to do with that?”
Guest speaker Felipe Colby of His Eyes Mission walks through one of the Bible's strangest passages—the story of Elisha, the mocking young men, and the bears in 2 Kings 2—and shows why understanding Scripture requires more than our first impression.
From there, the message moves to John 13, where Jesus does something His disciples could barely comprehend: the Lord and Teacher kneels down and performs the work of the lowest servant.
Peter objects. Judas prepares to betray Him. Jesus keeps serving.
Together, these stories raise an uncomfortable question: Do we approach God, Scripture, other Christians, and people who disagree with us with genuine humility—or are we sometimes more concerned with proving that we're right?
Felipe also explores Elijah and Elisha, the mantle of Elijah, the Jordan River, Jesus washing the disciples' feet, Peter's denial, Judas's betrayal, Christ's command to love one another, John 14, and what it means for Christians to take their proper place in the body of Christ.
**Biblically Literate** exists to help Christians understand the Bible in context, recognize how Scripture connects from Genesis to Revelation, and allow God's Word to shape how we think and live.

A Miracle Can Be Real—and Still Lead You Away From Truth
2026/08/26
Can a supernatural event be real and still point people toward a false message? Scripture gives Christians a surprisingly direct answer.
In this episode of Biblically Literate, Children and Family Minister Jon Rhoades examines how Christians should evaluate miracle claims using Deuteronomy 13, John 20, Matthew 24, Galatians 1, and other biblical passages. You'll hear why miracles can serve as evidence without becoming the final authority, why even extraordinary spiritual experiences must be tested against Scripture, and why the signs of Jesus ultimately point beyond spectacle to His death and resurrection.
If you've ever wondered how to respond to healings, visions, apparitions, signs and wonders, or someone claiming that “God told me,” this episode offers a biblical framework for discernment.

Our Power Outage Won't Stop God | Soft Prayers Waste God’s Power | I Love My Church Part 2
2026/08/17
Jon Rhoades (First Christian Church Children & Family Minister) preaches “Don’t Waste God’s Power.” Soft prayers vs bold prayers. 1 Kings 18 Elijah vs Baal, Numbers 14 Moses intercession, 2 Kings 20 Hezekiah’s prayer & healing, Acts 4 early-church prayer for boldness under threat, 2 Timothy 3 those who have the appearance of godliness but deny its power.
In this Biblically Literate episode you’ll hear:
The real Thursday-night power outage and flooding that almost stopped a 4th-grader’s baptism
Why “God help me have a good day / bless my wild kid / just guide the doctors” is a soft prayer that treats God as an assistant
The three bold-prayer examples that actually ask God to do the work (Elijah, Moses, Hezekiah)
The first recorded corporate prayer of the early church in Acts 4 after Peter and John were threatened
The two roots of soft prayers: lack of knowledge of God and pride (including unrepentant sin)
The living illustration of a 3-year-old who “broke” the shelf and thought he had ruined everything—while his father already knew how to fix it
Soft prayers make God our assistant.
Bold prayers remember we are His servants.
If this helped you examine your own prayers, share it with someone who needs the reminder that God’s power is not limited by our failures. Subscribe for more straightforward Bible teaching that connects Scripture to real life.

2026/08/11

Only Jesus decides your value—so you can actually live your best life.
In this episode of Worship Uncoiled from First Christian Church, CJ walks through the places Jesus stepped toward people the culture treated as worthless and then uses his own 1990s Reggie Miller basketball cards to drive the point home: the owner gets to decide the value. The practical challenge is simple and sticky for middle and high school students.
Main keywords featured: valuable, value, Jesus, Living Your Best Life, John 4, Samaritan woman, Gospels, lepers, tax collectors, Worship Uncoiled, student ministry.

Stop Treating the Book of Enoch Like Missing Scripture Because Jude Quoted It
2026/08/04
Jude quoted the Book of Enoch. That does not make Enoch Scripture.
In this episode of Biblically Literate, Children and Family Minister Jon Rhoades walks through Jude 14–15, shows exactly what Jude is doing, and explains why quoting a well-known Jewish text is not the same as treating it as the Word of God.
You’ll see how Paul does the same thing with pagan poets, why the early church never put 1 Enoch in the canon, why only the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition includes it, and how the modern “lost books” trend pulls people away from the finished gospel already given in the 66 books. Judgment is coming—but the same letter that warns us also points us to the One who keeps us from stumbling.
Key points covered:
• What Jude is actually saying in verses 14–15
• Why quoting ≠ canonizing (Paul’s example in Acts 17 and 1 Corinthians 15)
• The historical place of 1 Enoch as intertestamental Jewish literature
• Why the Ethiopian Orthodox inclusion does not rewrite the wider church’s canon
• How chasing “hidden books” feeds pride and distracts from ordinary means of grace
• The real invitation of Jude: rest in the finished work of Jesus
The Bible is complete. The gospel is not missing a chapter. Stop looking for secret knowledge and keep coming back to the Word God has already preserved for His people.
