Building Confidence with Values - Melissa Hague & Gayle Tong
2025/11/12
It was fabulous to welcome Melissa Hague back to the Confidence Conversations podcast to explore something that comes up time and time again in coaching and confidence work: values. Melissa shares how values like curiosity, expertise, and home shape how she shows up in life and work, and how they support confidence, even when self-doubt is loud. We talk about what it means to live into your values, how they evolve, and how they can help you hold both confidence and nerves at the same time. If you’ve ever struggled to name your values, to understand how they could work, what they look like in the everyday or wondered how they link to confidence, this one’s for you.”   Love the podcast? Series 3 - Wrap Up - With a little help from my friends
2025/07/09
In this final episode of the series I wanted to do something different to celebrate all the Confidence Conversations that I've had with guests.  So I asked my guests to send me a question on their topic that I could give answer, a perspective or an opinion on.   According the AI generated show notes this is what's covered…. "The conversation covers themes such as confidence during midlife, the importance of taking action with vision boards, stepping out of comfort zones, the intrinsic link between courage and confidence, the power of reframing, understanding the inner critic, and achieving a flow state in presentations. Each segment provides insights and practical advice for listeners seeking to enhance their confidence and personal growth." Couldn’t have put it better myself. I'll be taking a break for a while now before series 4, but remember all the previous episodes are still available to listen to. Love the podcast? Stepping out of your comfort zone with Nikie Forster
2024/11/06
"Stepping outside of the comfort zone requires self awareness and the ability to make informed decisions." After meeting Nikie for coffee one day and having a chat about whether age, experience or knowledge impacted our comfort zones and ultimately our confidence, I asked Nikie to come on the podcast to chat about it. We covered a lot of ground in this conversation, exploring challenges faced by new managers and the importance of self-awareness in leadership. We talked about how the understanding your own comfort zone from both positive and negative perspectives can help you to make informed decisions about stepping outside of it. We visualised an island in the ocean that represented our comfort zone and talked about sharks and dolphins as a way of understanding your comfort zone - you have to listen just for that bit - it's brilliant. We concluded with thinking about the barriers that people might face in relation to stepping out of the comfort zone. About Nikie You might not think early roles in radio, interior design and DIY sound like the most convincing career choices for someone who has since spent almost three decades as a Learning and Development professional, but all three of these roles gave me some great opportunities to learn about people,  hone my training, and facilitation skills, and craft my own path in a career I love.  Having gained many professional qualifications and experience in public and private sector L&D roles, I founded Curious Lighthouse Learning Consultancy Ltd in early 2016, where I specialises in increasing competence and confidence in Line Managers and Trainers to enhance their performance, whether they are at the very start of their journey or experienced professionals. I'm passionate about using creative learning methods which, as well as increasing engagement in the sessions, ensures better retention of information and quicker transfer of skills back into the workplace. Financial Confidence with Victoria Shepherd
2024/08/08
"Women tend to be risk-aware rather than risk-averse, and they make better investors." Loved this episode with Victoria Shepherd from Fincoco Financial Coaching. As a Navy veteran, Victoria gained the confidence and the ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations, which has translated into her work as a financial coach. Financial coaching is about helping individuals understand what they need their money to do for them and aligning their financial goals with their core values. Our chat about financial literacy especially for women was fascinating.  We talk about the financial impact of the menopause as well as discussing how our biases around women as the spenders and men as the earners - even now plays a part in how we perceive money. What do you think?  Are women risk aware or risk averse? Give it a listen, I'd love to know what you think. About Victoria Victoria is an experienced financial specialist and a dedicated champion of financial empowerment for women.  Starting her working life with 7-years serving as an officer in the Royal Navy, Victoria transitioned, via a break to start a family, to build a successful career in the financial services industry. Juggling work, family and exams, Victoria gained her Diploma in Regulated Financial Advice in 2019. As an independent financial adviser, she has successfully managed assets worth over £46 million and supported 290 clients. In 2024,  Victoria founded Fincoco Financial Coaching, a firm dedicated to educating and empowering women (and their families) to understand and build their finances. She is committed to closing the Gender Wealth Gap by providing tailored guidance that helps women navigate their unique financial journeys. Victoria's work is fuelled by the belief that financial knowledge and confidence is a critical tool for personal freedom and equality. In her free time Victoria enjoys outdoor adventures in the mountains with her husband, 2 children and dog.
