We wrap up our month-long look at film noir with The Blue Dahlia from 1946! Featuring the iconic noir pairing of Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake, this film was well-reviewed and well-received by audiences in it's day, buuuttttt....how does it hold up? Raymond Chandler's first original screenplay was nominated for an Oscar, sure, yet room for some criticism of the narrative remains! June Noir continues with our look at a film that features the Hollywood debut of screen legend Charlton Heston....Dark City. This film has a great supporting cast with Jack Webb, Harry Morgan, and one of our favourites here on the show, Don Defore. But it also has Lizabeth Scott, and your mileage may vary on her. A weird revenge tale, with a cast of unlikeable characters, is this a great noir film? Or is it miss that should have been a hit? We wrap up our month-long look at animated films with the first animated feature produced by the British Film Industry, Animal Farm. Funded in part by the CIA , the anti-totalitarian messages from the George Orwell book at brought vividly, almost gruesomely, to life by the husband-wife animation team of Halas-Batchelor. Intended as propaganda cloaked as entertainment, how does this film stack up as a piece of work on its own merits? We aren't going to try to unpack all of the themes of the source material here, just evaluate the film on it's own merits. We continue our month long look at animation from the golden age of Hollywood with the second animated feature film, and the first non-Disney one...Gulliver's Travels from Fleischer Studios. An ambitious film that never quite achieved the artistic heights it aspired to, this film holds a special place in cinematic history nevertheless. What should have been the crowning achievement for the number two animation house in the business wound up being the first domino in a series that would eventually see the studio fall apart due to financial problems. And as weird a film as this can be upon viewing, just always remember...it could have starred Popeye. Ok, so let's set this one up for you: Humphrey Bogart in his best acting performance. John Huston finest film as a director. Walter Huston's Oscar-winning performance. Tim Holt in what is certainly the high water mark of his career. All together, we might just have one of the best adventure films ever made in the old Hollywood era. One of Derek's favourites, and a new viewing experience for Sam, have a listen and hear what they thought about this absolute gem of a motion picture!

We continue our look at adventure movies for the month of April with this absolute gem of a motion picture. Directed by the great Michael Curtiz, and starring screen legends Errol Flynn and Olivia DeHavilland (ably supported by Claude Rains, Basil Rathbone, and Alan Hale), this might just be THE definitive Robin Hood movie. Filled with action, romance, and mirth, this film is a technicolor feast for the eyes as well! If you’ve never seen this film, now is a perfect time to be your first time. We start a new theme month....It's all-adventure April...with 1956's Moby Dick, which for many is the definitive film version of Melville's novel. With some nifty effects, a fantastic supporting cast, and a climactic action scene that will get your blood pumping, this is a movie that deserves a look.
