SB Bonus Round 35.5/36.5 (Replay): Top 5 Controllers of All Time
2026/02/01
Note - This episode was originally released in December 2024. I've decided to add all Bonus Round episodes to the main feed, sequentially and on a 1-year-plus delay, so that EVERYONE can enjoy these fun, classic gaming banter sessions. Patrons will still get NEW Bonus Round episodes every month. Bonus Round 49.5 just went live a few days ago, so if you'd like to catch up, head over to Patreon and support the show at the Fire Flower level or higher. www.patreon.com/smashingbricks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey Retro Gamers, welcome back to Bonus Round! These monthly podcast episodes are Patreon Exclusives and available at the Fire Flower level of support or higher. Each month, my guest and I will put together some sort of list, ranking, or otherwise fun conversation, usually related to that month's main episode. These will be released on the 28th of each month, and hopefully will be the dessert you've been missing after the main course episode two weeks earlier! Episode 35's game, Tomb Raider, had a unique control scheme due to it being one of the earliest 3D action/adventure/platformer games to grace consoles in the nascent 3D era of the early-to-mid 90s. Realizing this fact, I thought, "what better to talk about than CONTROLLERS?!" So here we are. Anthony and I picked our Top 5 Controllers...and you know I managed to talk about like 10 of them along the way. There are a couple of visual aids at the original Patreon post for this episode (which is now free to access) that will make more sense as you listen: https://www.patreon.com/posts/118806015 Enjoy! And let me know what YOUR favorite controllers are. And which ones you despise. Join the discussion at https://discord.smashingbricks.com
Smashing Bricks 49: Star Fox 64
2026/01/14
Hey Retro Gamers! On today's episode of Smashing Bricks we travel back to 1997 and experience RuMbLe for the first time all over again in Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64. Smashing Bricks is a retro gaming podcast about revisiting classic video games together to see if they hold up to the rose tint of nostalgia. Join me, Eddie Inzauto, and Starman-Tier Patreon Supporter Britteny (MsMuso in Discord) as we fly across the Lylat System and destroy as many enemies as possible in this 3D on-rails space shooter. Make sure you listen until the end to hear what the next game is and play through with us before the 14th of next month! Smashing Bricks Bonus Round Episodes are now available to all Fire Flower tier (and higher) Patreon Patrons! These amazing episodes post on the 28th of each month, and I really want as many of you to hear them as possible, so I've made it easier to be a part of that audience! Be sure to check them out at: https://patreon.com/smashingbricks Non-patrons can ALSO now hear these episodes on the main feed, but they'll be posted there a little over a year after initial release, on the 1st of each month. Smashing Bricks has a Discord server! Follow this link to join our community and chat about games, the podcast, and anything else your heart desires! https://discord.com/invite/gfnpx62JzS You're invited to join the discussion with your comments on our current and upcoming titles or any past game we've played. You can also make suggestions for games you'd like to hear about on future episodes! Check out the Smashing Bricks Playlist and help me fill in the gaps, or let me know that a game that's already on the list is a must-play for the show! SB Bonus Round 34.5 (Replay): The Best Beat 'Em Up Games
2026/01/01

I've decided to add all Bonus Round episodes to the main feed, sequentially and on a 14-month delay, so that EVERYONE can enjoy these fun, classic gaming banter sessions. Bonus Round 48.5 just went live a few days ago, so if you'd like to catch up, head over to Patreon and support the show at the Fire Flower level or higher. www.patreon.com/smashingbricks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey Retro Gamers, welcome back to Bonus Round! These will be released on the 28th of each month, and hopefully will be the dessert you've been missing after the main course episode two weeks earlier! Before I begin: yes, I did mess up my numbering AGAIN this month, but it all worked out just fine. Aaaanyway, this month's episode on Knights of the Round got me thinking about the best 2D beat 'em up games (or belt scrollers, as my PAL-Region friend Peter would say) of all time. We definitely figured out the best ONE of all time, but the remaining 20 or so are up for debate. To reiterate, my number 1 pick is in no way up for debate. It is literal, actual fact. Can you guess what game it is before listening? What are YOUR favorite beat 'em up games? Bring your thoughts to Discord and talk about 'em all! There's a dedicated channel for it now! discord.smashingbricks.com
Smashing Bricks: 12 Games of Bricks-mas Special Day 12
2025/12/25
Hey Retro Gamers! For the holiday season this year I've decided to casually record a "12 Games of Christmas" series, in which I plan to share 12 video games that are in some way meaningful to me, or that will (hopefully) paint a picture of me as a gamer. I typically do a rapid-fire Q&A session with first-time guests to help you get to know their gaming tastes, but I've never done such a thing about myself for you, so here it is! Today's episode is Day 12! We made it! And for a very special day, I have a very special game. As of December 12th, 2025, if I HAAAAAAD to choose a game as the "Greatest Game of All Time" then it would be this one, a game I love very much and one that has already brought me just shy of 400 hours of festive, joyful playtime since its release, even though I haven't played more than an hour of that in 2025.
