Roger Jorgensen, Craft Spirit Pioneer, joins Holger Meier in this episode. Holger first visited Roger on his wine farm in Wellington around 2011. They discuss the early days of craft distilling in South Africa from potstill brandy to the rise of craft gin. His first brand was Savingnac, combining: SA, vine and Cognac. "Somewhere Science has to meet art to become craft." Roger is a passionate farmer and distiller and finds joy in seeing other people succeed. Roger became sought after as a consultant and eventually Roger had to choose between consulting and producing his own brands. In a recent interview with Johannes le Roux, founder of Brannas Draught, he told us that Brannas was sold to the owners of their biggest outlet, The Green. About seven years ago, Dax Menday, together with Dimitri Seretis started The Green at the Benoni Country Club. The Green was the First True Craft Bar on the East Rand. Not only is Brannas a good seller at The Green, it is also a great fit for the live events business, The Green Live, which the partners started together with Ettiene Erasmus.
