In this episode you can hear Giles Goodland, poet, teacher and lexicographer, talking about the poetry (mostly modernist) he enjoys and why. W N Herbert reads from The Kindly Interrogator, his translations off the Iranian poet Alireza Abiz, and from his own most recent collection, The Wreck of the Fathership. In addition, we have poems from Sarah J Bryson, Trisha Broomfield, Inge Milfull, Hanne Busck-Nielsen and Sarah James.

This episode of Poetry Worth Hearing has two parts. The first half is devoted to the conflict in Ukraine, with poets discussing whether or how they can write about the war and then a selection of poems which have been written. Part Two is general with new poems from Brighid Schroer, Carl Tomlinson, Sue Johns, David Cooke and Meg Barton.  We finish with a short reading by Alan Buckley who has recorded for us some of the poems he read at a Zoom open mic event in March and which are taken from his collection, Touched. This is the fourth Episode of Poetry Worth Hearing. An important theme this month is the notion of collaboration and cooperation, between poets and between poets and artists from other disciplines. We have a project curated by Diana Sanders which brings together several poets, musicians and sound artists to present poems own soundscapes. Romola Parish and Sarah Watkinson read a shared poem which is part of the pamphlet they wrote together celebrating Wytham Woods, the Oxford University ecology research station.  Viola Michely and Bill Jenkinson share with us the process of translating a poem from German into English.  We also have a number of exciting individual poems by Claire Cox, Jennifer A McGowan, David Ratcliffe, Trisha Broomfield, Steve Xerri and finally, a selection from Jane Duran's recent collection, the clarity of distant things, Carcanet, 2021.
