Subscribers: The murder of Hannah Hill
2026/10/21
In May 1999, 18-year-old Hannah Hill left her family’s Akron, Ohio home, telling her mom she would be back soon. When she missed the first day of her new job the next morning, her family knew something was wrong. As they searched, repeated calls about an unfamiliar parked car went unconnected to her disappearance. Allison examines Hannah Hill’s murder investigation, the opportunities police missed, and the questions that followed her family into the courtroom. The murder of Ella Bennett | Ep 267
2026/10/18
Skip the banter: 00:10:45 (depending on ads) Four-year-old Ella Bennett was murdered in her Abilene, Texas home in February 2007 while her mother, Charity Lee, was at work. The 911 caller described an accident, but investigators began uncovering details that contradicted that account, including what happened before the call. Medical records and conflicting family accounts raised further questions about what had been known before Ella’s death. Allison examines Ella’s case, the warnings documented months earlier, and an explanation that became harder to reconcile with the evidence. Her mother returned to find the building’s hallway bulbs unscrewed, the apartment unlocked and another girl asleep in Laureen’s bed. Allison examines Laureen’s disappearance and the gap between the leads her family remembered and what investigators could confirm. 2026/10/11
Skip the banter: 00:11:50 (give or take a minute depending on ads) After returning to Whidbey Island for Christmas with his children, Russel Douglas was found murdered on an isolated road. Months later, a nervous caller told detectives he knew something about the shooting, but feared that speaking up would expose him. Allison follows the private conversations and conflicting stories that left investigators questioning why Russel had gone there in the first place. Subscribers: The murder of Katie Fusco
2026/10/05
At 18, Katie Fusco found her biological parents through Facebook and put college on hold to move in with them. Her biological mother, Alyssa, told her why she had placed her for adoption, but Katie stayed even as concerns about Steven Pladl grew. This episode examines Katie’s reunion with her birth family, the warning signs that followed, and the criminal investigation that led to a no-contact order. Allison traces the case through a family’s efforts to keep Katie close while fearing she was becoming increasingly isolated. The murders of Lisa & Jayden Underwood | Ep 265
2026/10/04
Skip the banter: 00:09:15 In February 2005, pregnant Fort Worth business owner Lisa Underwood and her 7-year-old son, Jayden, disappeared after failing to arrive at Lisa’s baby shower. Inside their home, investigators found blood and signs that someone had tried to clean the scene, while Lisa’s SUV was missing. Hours after Lisa was last known to be home, a deputy encountered a wet, mud-covered man walking along an interstate service road who gave a false name and suddenly ran into the woods. As police began looking closely at the people in Lisa’s life, that strange encounter would become increasingly difficult to ignore. Allison walks us through the investigation and the relationships surrounding Lisa that gave detectives a much clearer picture of what may have happened inside her home. Subscribers: The disappearance of Ashley Summers
2026/09/29
When 14-year-old Ashley Summers vanished from Cleveland in 2007, investigators initially believed she had simply run away. But conflicting accounts, a mysterious phone call, and troubling discoveries much closer to home complicated that early theory. Allison tells Ashley’s story and examines the unanswered questions that remain nearly twenty years later. The disappearance of Lauren Spierer | Ep 264
2026/09/27
New merch released today! 1-week sale, check out the new stuff: https://crimeandcoffeecouple.dashery.com/ Skip the banter: 00:10:25 (give or take a minute depending on ads) In June 2011, 20-year-old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer vanished after a night out in Bloomington, leaving behind surveillance footage, conflicting accounts, missing belongings and a final stretch of time that has never been fully explained. Several people saw Lauren severely intoxicated and struggling to walk, yet the men who were with her later gave accounts that did not always match, including differing versions of how she spent her final known 90 minutes and whether she actually left the townhome where she was last reported alive. Over the years, investigators have examined theories ranging from an accidental death and concealed body to abduction, serial killer Daniel Messel and even Israel Keyes, but no direct evidence has established what happened. Fifteen years later, Lauren’s parents are still waiting for the one piece of information that could finally explain where their daughter went. Allison walks through the evidence, the inconsistencies and the details that continue to keep Lauren Spierer’s disappearance unresolved. Subscribers: The murder of Celia "Beth" van Zanten
2026/09/22
Eighteen-year-old Celia “Beth” van Zanten disappeared from Anchorage just days before Christmas in 1971, and her body was found three days later in a ravine at McHugh Creek State Park. Investigators faced conflicting witness statements, fading tire tracks, questions about someone close to Beth, and the account of another young woman who said she had been abducted only days earlier by Robert Hansen. Hansen would later confess to murdering 17 women, but he never admitted to killing Beth, while another violent offender, Gary Zieger, also emerged as a possible suspect. More than five decades later, the evidence still leaves investigators with competing possibilities and no one charged in Beth’s death. Allison walks us through the investigation, including the connections and overlooked details that have kept the question of who killed Beth unresolved. Terror in Alaska: Robert Hansen - The Butcher Baker | Ep 263
2026/09/20
Skip the banter: 00:06:10 (give or take a min depending on ads) Robert Hansen, known as the Butcher Baker, became one of Alaska’s most notorious serial killers after targeting vulnerable women in and around Anchorage and taking them into the wilderness. For years, disappearances, prior allegations, and warning signs failed to bring serious scrutiny, even after 17-year-old Cindy Paulson escaped Hansen and gave Anchorage police a detailed account of her abduction. As investigators connected the murders of women including Sherry Morrow, Paula Goulding, Joanna Messina, and Eklutna Annie, evidence began pointing back to the quiet local baker with a private plane, a hunting background, and an aviation map marked with remote locations. Allison walks us through the Robert Hansen investigation, the failures that delayed it, and the evidence that finally forced authorities to reconsider what women had been telling them for years. Subscribers: The murder of Margaret Sumney
2026/09/16
For years before Margaret Sumney’s death, there were documented assaults, police calls, treatment programs, and repeated signs that her adult son David was capable of serious violence. In 2019, another allegation resulted in an arrest warrant, but a failure to enter it into a federal database meant David continued moving freely before returning to Pennsylvania. When Margaret’s family could no longer reach her and requested a welfare check, investigators entered her home and found evidence that immediately raised questions about what had happened there. David’s phone would eventually provide investigators with something far more detailed than a reconstructed timeline, including hundreds of photographs and disturbing searches made around the time of Margaret’s death. Allison walks us through Margaret’s story, the years of escalating violence surrounding her son, and the procedural failures that became impossible to ignore. The murder of Carly Ryan | Ep 262
2026/09/13
Skip the banter: 00:09:57 Carly Ryan thought she knew the teenage boy she had spent months talking to online, but the relationship was built around an identity that did not exist. As investigators began looking at the people behind Carly’s online conversations, they uncovered a much larger pattern of deception and grooming. Allison tells Carly’s story with a closer look at the warning signs, investigative evidence, and assumptions that complicated how the case was understood. Subscribers: The murders of Faith & Liberty Battaglia
2026/09/09
Faith and Liberty Battaglia were 9 and 6 years old when a routine Wednesday visit with their father unfolded against a history of domestic violence, probation violations, a protective order, and an outstanding arrest warrant. Their mother, Mary Jean, had reported John Battaglia for harassment only weeks earlier, yet he still retained visitation with the girls and was able to take them back to his Dallas apartment that evening. The case raises difficult questions about how known violence, court restrictions, firearm access, and escalating behavior intersected before May 2, 2001. Allison walks us through the investigation, the warning signs already on record, and the decisions that shaped the final hours Faith and Liberty spent with their father.
The murder of Leigh Leigh | Ep 261
2026/09/06
Skip the banter: 00:08:17 What happened to Leigh Leigh began at a teenage party where cruelty escalated in front of dozens of people, and the investigation that followed was complicated by silence, conflicting stories, and evidence that did not always fit the official account. Allison tells Leigh’s story through the witness statements, investigative decisions, and forensic concerns that continued to raise questions long after the night in Stockton. Subscribers: The mysterious case of the Nannup Four
2026/09/02
In July 2007, four people disappeared from a rural property near Nannup, Western Australia, leaving behind a note claiming they had moved to Brazil, even though their passports were never used and their bank accounts remained untouched. The investigation would uncover a false identity, disturbing emails about suicide, access to powerful medications, and evidence that the group had been preparing to leave for months. But other details, including withdrawn cash, a new passport for five-year-old Leela, and belongings removed from the house, complicated what appeared to be the most likely explanation. Even a coronial inquest could not determine whether Chantelle McDougall, Leela McDougall, Tony Popic, and the man known as Simon Kadwill were dead or alive. Allison walks us through the research behind the Nannup Four and the details that continue to prevent one explanation from accounting for everything.
