Stop the Bypass: Sandra Combe on Her Near-Death Awakening and the Courage to Live in Truth
2026/09/22
Sandra Combe is a retired corporate executive turned author, speaker, and healing arts entrepreneur. As a woman climbing the corporate ladder, she knew she had to stay sharp, and at 48, in the midst of a career at ExxonMobil that would span decades, she went back to school and earned her MBA. Her fast-paced lifestyle quickly came to a standstill when she had two near-death experiences: a heart attack at 49 and a triple bypass at 50. Those two occurrences shifted her mindset. She realized that what she needed more than work was to look within herself. In the years that followed, Sandra co-founded a wellness business with her daughter and began immersing herself in energy medicine and spiritual study. She also penned a memoir, Stop the Bypass, which details her extraordinary story and journey to becoming a healing arts entrepreneur. In this episode, host Robert Radnoti sits down with his longtime friend and ExxonMobil co-worker to discuss her book and the key moments that led to her new career. Their conversation covers her strict upbringing, young marriage to professional baseball player Jeff Combe, corporate experience in a male-dominated industry, and the health crisis that forced her to slow down. She also talks about the inspiration behind her book, sharing intimate details about the traumatic swimming pool incident that led to a three-day coma and the vivid experiences she had during that time. She even opens up about her experience as a new author dealing with honest family opinions. To close, she explains her daily ritual in what she calls her "Be Still" chair and what she learned from years of studying with spiritual teacher Derek O'Neill. Tune in to episode 68 of RADitude to hear how Sandra Combe turned a health scare and a life-altering near-death experience into a mission to help others stop bypassing their own truth. You’ll also get the practical, grounding advice she offers anyone feeling burnt out on autopilot. He discusses the five core emotional wounds—rejection, abandonment, humiliation, betrayal, and injustice—and the behavioral "masks" people unconsciously adopt to protect themselves from these wounds. Drawing from his own life and recent experiences in spiritual workshops and retreats, Robert reflects on how these wounds have shaped his personality, behaviors, and relationships. He explains that each wound typically originates in early childhood, often in connection with the parent of the same or opposite sex, and leads to specific defense mechanisms such as withdrawal, dependency, control, or rigidity. Through stories and examples from his own journey—including moments of humor and vulnerability—Robert brings to life the ways these patterns can show up in everyday situations, such as perfectionism, fear of abandonment, and difficulty expressing one’s true needs. Central to his message is the idea that healing begins with awareness. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing our wounds, acknowledging the masks we wear, and approaching ourselves with compassion. Rather than viewing emotional triggers as problems, Robert encourages listeners to see them as gifts—opportunities to heal and grow. He highlights the spiritual perspective that our souls intentionally choose life circumstances to confront and resolve these wounds, and that true healing involves not only forgiveness, but gratitude for the lessons they bring. 2024/12/03
Discover how the practice of contemplation through the lens of the Gene Keys, can help you explore your shadow, unlock deeper insights, and create meaningful change in your life. In today's solo episode, Robert explores self-improvement and the intricacies of relationships through the transformative framework of the Gene Keys. Drawing from personal growth experiences, he explores how understanding one’s shadows and gifts can foster deeper relationships and a more fulfilling life. Robert introduces the Gene Keys, a system rooted in the I Ching, which encourages contemplation of personal traits through shadows (challenges), gifts (strengths), and siddhis (spiritual realizations). Starting with the Activation Sequence—life’s work, evolution, radiance, and purpose—he shares how contemplating his shadows revealed hidden patterns like agitation, transforming them into gifts such as intuition. Focusing on the Venus Sequence, he reflects on his journey to improve relationships, guided by resources like Tony Robbins and Abraham Hicks. He emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, seeing life’s challenges as opportunities for growth, and consciously nurturing love. Tune in to episode 54 of RADitude and explore how the Gene Keys and Venus Sequence can transform your relationships and foster deeper, more conscious connections with yourself and others.
