Mid-Credit Scene - History of the World Pt. 2
2026/09/15
Welcome back for Part Two of our look at the film industry and how it's been shaped and reshaped by various forces, be they artistic, economic, or technological, over time.  We hope you enjoyed part one! This is The History of the World, Pt. 2! Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Email: [email protected] Show theme: The Show Must Be Go by Kevin MacLeod Logo design: Jon Johnson
Mid-Credit Scene - History of the World Pt. 1
2026/09/08
The Mikes go way back into the annals of history to talk about the history of the film industry and how it's changed, evolved, and sometimes been completely up-ended over time.  We were pretty excited about this one and ran a little long, so we broke it into two parts. We hope you enjoy! This is The History of the World, Pt. 1 Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Episode 42 - Dune with Sam Toman
2026/08/18
Let the Spice flow! The Mikes are joined by Midtown KW legend Sam Toman as we head to Arrakis in this sprawling conversation about Canadian director Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's seemingly impossible adapt series Dune (or as Pereira affectionately calls it, "Whispers Amongst the Foghorns").  How does it compare to Lynch's 1984 piece? Will Villeneuve ever leave the Duniverse? Are these well-acted movies, or just a lot of moody turning to the camera? Let's discuss! Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Episode 41 - Great Soundtracks from Bad Movies
2026/07/15
This is a very special episode that the Mikes have been talking about for a while, and as you will hear, may well be Pereira's Area of Expertise: the best movie soundtracks that come from the worst movies. Clark is along for the ride on this one, as his music knowledge is surface level at best, but we deep dive into the influence of some of these soundtracks on the wider music industry, the late 20th century phenomena of the best selling movie soundtrack, and how it is yet another part of the movie business that has largely disappeared. And many tangents throughout, as to be expected.  Clarification: at one point Clark comments about George Lucas' two "best films"; obviously, he meant two best films that Lucas made outside of the original Star Wars. Clark may have some strange opinions, but he's not going to argue that Willow is better than A New Hope. Dark Crystal though... Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Mid-Credit Minute - 9 Innocent Bystanders Whose Day Was Ruined By James Bond
2026/07/09
Today, Clark closes the loop and reads a listicle he wrote in the early 2010s on a semi-successful blog, which was a thing you could do back then! We present Mid Credit Minute - 9 Innocent Bystanders Whose Day Was Ruined By James Bond.  Audio note, there is a knocking throughout that could not be exorcised in the edit. Apologies in advance.  Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Email: [email protected] Show theme: The Show Must Be Go by Kevin MacLeod Logo design: Jon Johnson
Episode 40 - Credit. Mid Credit.
2026/06/11
That's right, the Mikes are finally talking about Bond films! We talk our faves, the regrettables, and why Pereira can't seem to remember anything about the Craig era.  So hop into our audio Aston Martin and let's take down some super villains!!  Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Episode 39 - Ryan Leandres Talks Game Adaptations
2026/04/15
The Mikes are joined by poet, board game aficionado, host of Free Wizard Radio, and owner of the Adventurers Guild Board Game and Video Game Café to talk about games and their film adaptations!  From Clue to Mario, Battleship to Dungeons & Dragons, we dive into some of the best and the ... rest... of game adaptations. Regrettably we did not record three different endings for this episode.  Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Episode 38 - Losing Legends
2026/03/25
In this episode, the Mikes reflect on 2026 kicking our butts with the sudden, unexpected, and heartbreaking loss of three giants of the film industry: Rob Reiner, Catherin O'Hara, and Robert Duvall. We talk about the impact these three careers have had one the two of us, diving into some of our favourite films and performances from their filmographies, and generally pay tribute to titans. Episode 37 - Midtown Radio 2025 Holiday Special
2026/02/04
The Mikes returned home for the holidays! Back in Dec. we joined our old friends at Midtown Radio for their 7th Annual Holiday Variety Show, which was recorded and broadcast live from the AOK Craft Beer + Arcade Bar on a wintery night in Downtown Kitchener.  Our little corner of the show contained a guessing game about holiday releases, and a Hallmark challenge, where we re-wrote the plot of movies like a Hallmark holiday movie and people guessed what movie it was.  We only included our portion of the show, but we highly recommend you check out Midtown Radio for more and seek out the other talented people involved, including poet Chudear Oyual, musician Eric Jackson & Willow River, comedian Renee Groux, and Rad Riot Books Founder Aashay Dalvi!.  Enjoy!! Episode 36 - The Apes of Wrath!
2025/11/09
This past October renowned  primatologist, anthropologist, and animal advocate Jane Goodall passed away at the age of 91. This got us thinking about primates - and of course, more specifically primates in the movies! Of course, in talking about it, we did what every normal person does - we made a bracket!!  We've got your Kongs, your Outbreak monkeys, your Rafikis, your weeping statue of Caesar. All the very normal things that live in our heads rent free! You can check out the bracket, follow along with us, and make your own decisions by clicking here.  Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Mid-Credit Minute - The Give and Take with Scott Williams
2025/07/08
Scott Williams tells us about which films he feels he inherited, and which films he wants to pass on to the next generation (which isn't a Star Trek reference, but after two hours of recording, we finally give in to the pressure and talk Trek for a bit here).  Scott's Double Take from his previous appearance is available in our back catalogue wherever you are listening to this!  Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Mid-Credit Minute - Willow and Val Kilmer, with Scott Williams
2025/07/01
The Mikes and Scott talk George Lucas' attempt to do for fantasy what he did for sci-fi with Star Wars. Yes, it's Willow, the movie that inspired a show that Disney took off its platform to avoid paying writers a livable wage. And we discuss the late and missed Val Kilmer.  Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Email: [email protected] Show theme: The Show Must Be Go by Kevin MacLeod Logo design: Jon Johnson
Mid-Credit Minute - Don Bluth and Fantasy Animation, with Scott Williams
2025/06/24
The Mikes and Scott Williams turn their attention to the cell-shaded elephant in the room, the fantasy animation of the 1980s. Why did Disney struggle and Don Bluth succeed, only to switch roles once the 90s hit? Was it the sincerity, or was it the emotional trauma? Newsletter: https://midcreditscene.substack.com/. Mid-Credit Minute - The Coming of Conan, with Scott Williams
2025/06/17
The Mikes and Scott Williams continue their conversation about 80s fantasy with a detour through the sewers into High and Low fantasy, and take a moment to consider Conan the Barbarian on page and screen. Episode 35 - 80s Fantasy with Scott Williams
2025/06/10
By the Power of Greyskull, Scott Williams returns to the show! Perhaps the only person that can nerd talk as long as either of the Mikes, when we asked Scott what he wanted to talk about, There Can Be Only One answer: 80s Fantasy. So strap on your loincloths, grab your best dragon cleaver, watch your horse drown in a bog, and lets go visit the Gnome King in this far ranging conversation about the Highs and Lows, the Darks and Lights, and the Tolkien of it all.  Fire and Ice (1983) can be watched at the Internet Archive.
