Description

Have you ever stopped to look around and wondered "how did I get here?" You feel like you've been living life on auto-pilot, and your heart tells you there's supposed to be more to it than struggling and just surviving. You know you were put here on Earth to THRIVE, and you're ready - you're like...OVER-ready. But HOW do you even define "thrive?" And once you define it - what's next? Where do you even begin? I've found that a big part of "thriving" is really about getting out of our own way. Yes - you read that correctly. We need to get out of our own way! We need to stop believing the BS we've been told by our families, friends, the media... And we need to stop telling ourselves that same BS, give the middle finger to those limiting beliefs, and start making conscious decisions to shift our mindset and behaviors so that we're no longer functioning in survival mode. Because let's be real - when you're focused on merely surviving - how do you even have space and time for anything else? Friend - I am right there with you! I'm not going to pretend I have all the answers, because I don't. But I'm committed to learning and growing as much as I can, and having as much fun as possible while doing it! Plus, I figure life is usually a bit more enjoyable when you're accompanied by someone who's traveling a similar road. So just think of me as the Louise to your Thelma. My passenger seat's ready and waiting - all you need to do is hop in. So...are you coming? And...this may be a little awkward...but can you pitch in for gas? You can find me at @itsactuallykristi on Instagram, or email me at [email protected]. I'd love to connect with you! Seriously!

Episode 140: The One That Isn't A Comeback
2026/05/01
Remember how LL Cool J rapped "Don't call it a comeback?" It was because it wasn't really a comeback...because he was still there - he never actually left. And that's how it's been for me. *Side Note: If you don't any any clue what I'm talking about, consider "Mama Said Knock You Out" required listening. The last episode I published was about a year and a half ago...and I haven't been gone - I've just been living life, and let me tell you - LIFE has been LIFE-ING. The last four years have sucked, and these last two? They reallllly sucked. But something I realized these last few weeks was that this podcast thing? Something I created to help others feel less alone? It's actually made ME feel less alone at a time when I probably needed it most. This isn't a comeback episode, but it's a bit of an update, a "Thank You," and a "What's to Come" all rolled into one. So sit back, press "Play," and maybe enjoy some raw cookie dough while you listen. Did you love this episode? If so, I want to know! Send me a DM @itsactuallykristi on Instagram, or send me an email at [email protected]. If you reallllly loved the episode, please "Like It" or "Heart It" or whatever it is you need to do to show the podcast some love on whatever platform you're listening on. And if you leave a review, please let me know so I can personally thank you! (And I actually will!) Oh - and one last thing! You can share whatever episode you're enjoying in your Stories too! If you do, be sure to tag @itsactuallykristi and I'll re-share! OK....I think that's it! Thank you SO much for listening - I really DO appreciate it and I appreciate YOU!
Episode 139: The One That's A Quickie
2024/12/21
I know I know...I hype up the return of the podcast, and then don't drop anything for nearly a month. I feel a bit lame, and I wanted to acknowledge that. All the reasons why I "took a break" in 2024 are the same things that contributed to my "long pause" between episodes #138 and #139. This isn't how it's always going to be, but it may be how it is for a while. And that's OK with me. I hope it's OK with you too.
Episode 138: The One Where She (Kind Of) Fills in the Gaps
2024/11/19
No, you're not seeing things. The name of the podcast has changed. Welcome to the first episode of "Unraveled & Unwritten," and the start of Season 3. It felt like it was time for a change (as I type this I can't help but think of Peter Brady when his voice started to change), and while "Awaken The Extraordinary" felt inspirational and empowering, I began to realize that part of "awakening" to that which is extraordinary about ourselves first requires a lot of unraveling, and a lot of blank pages. So it's been a looooong time since I dropped a full-length episode, and if you're wondering why that was, give this episode a listen. Just like Ross and Rachel, I needed to take a break, and did so for a number of reasons. I realize this may not be the most exciting or entertaining episode, but I wanted to share a high-level overview as to what's been going on for the past (nearly) year.
Episode 137: The One After She Took a Break
2024/10/31
I know "where's Kristi and why did she stop recording the podcast?" probably hasn't been at the top of your mind. But if it's a thought you've had over the lsat 10 months, you might get some answers if you press "Play." Oh! And you may also get a sneak peek as to when the show is coming back...and its new title! Episode 136: Holiday Edition - The One Where Christmas Is More Griswold Than Hallmark
2023/12/25
Many of us love those cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies, right? There's something about the picture-perfect holiday that just gives us the warm fuzzies. But a lot of us love The Griswold family and their "Not Quite Hallmark Holiday." Why is that? Because for many of us, the holidays depicted in those Hallmark movies are something we aspire to, but the Griswold's "Fun Old-Fashioned Family Christmas" is more realistic. It's easy to feel like OUR Christmas Day is the only one that isn't living up to expectations, but I promise you, that is not the case. If you've ever felt bummed out on Christmas Day, this episode is for you. So go grab a warm beanie, gloves, socks and a blanket, head upstairs to your attic, and give this episode a listen. *Disclaimer: Due to the hectic-ness of the holiday, this episode was recorded while en route to the only "mall" we have in Missoula. Just pretend it's me leaving you a long-winded voice note, and you should be good. I guess you could say this podcast episode is more Griswold than Hallmark too. ;) Did you love this episode? If so, I want to know! Send me a DM @itsactuallykristi on Instagram, or send me an email at [email protected]. If you reallllly loved the episode, please "Like It" or "Heart It" or whatever it is you need to do to show the podcast some love on whatever platform you're listening on. And if you leave a review, please let me know so I can personally thank you! (And I actually will!) Oh - and one last thing! You can share whatever episode you're enjoying in your Stories too! Episode 135: Holiday Edition - The One With The Story Behind The Story Of "Rudolph"
2023/12/25
You know the story of "Rudolph," right? But do you know the story BEHIND the story of "Rudolph?" Did you know that "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" was written by a guy who worked at Montgomery Ward - yes, that old department store - as a promotion for its customers? If you didn't know that, or even if you did and are curious to learn more, pull up an ice block, lend an ear, and hit "Play" now. And MERRY CHRISTMAS! Episode 134: Holiday Edition - The One Where She Gets Deep About "Rudolph"
2023/12/24
Did you watch that stop-animation movie about "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" as a kid? And if so, have you watched it as an adult? And maybe even as a parent? I grew up watching that show, and it holds a very special place in my heart. But watching it as an adult gave me an entirely different perspective on pretty much every character, and I realized Santa, and even Rudolph's parents, kinda sucked! There's nothing wrong with being different. In fact, being different is what makes us special and unique. Now don't get me wrong. I still LOVE this show, but if you've had a few of these thoughts yourself, I invite you to give this one a listen. And if you have no clue what I'm talking about, I also invite you to give this episode a listen! Episode 133: Holiday Edition - The One Where She Gets Deep About "Fred Claus"
2023/12/20
Have you seen that Christmas movie with Vince Vaughn? Not the uncomfortable one about multiple Christmases where he's in an awkward relationship with Reese Witherspoon. But the one where he plays Santa's brother, Fred? If not, then you may want to press "Play" on this one. Yes, the movie is about Christmas, but it's also much deeper than that. It gets into family dynamics (aka "dysfunction"), getting curious about people and the "WHY" behind their behavior, and showing people grace and compassion. Because sometimes...we don't need a pile of gifts under that tree. Sometimes, all we truly need is knowing that someone cares about us, and what we're going through.
Episode 132: Holiday Edition - The One Where She Talks To Chaya About Chanukah
2023/12/09
You know the Christmas Story, right? But do you know the Chanukah Story? If you're anything like me, you may know some...but not much. And if you're looking at my boat, thinking you should be sitting beside me, then this episode is for you. I realized one morning that, although I didn't know much about Chanukah, my friend Chaya DID! And so I invited her on to share about the holiday, its origin, and its traditions. If your knowledge of the holiday doesn't extend far beyond The Holiday Armadillo and/or Adam Sandler, I suggest you press "Play" now! By the way, Chaya is a pretty interesting woman, and if you'd like to find her on Instagram, head on over to @birth.life.shomrit. Episode 131: Holiday Edition - The One Where She Gets Deep About "Elf"
2023/12/01
You've seen "Elf," right?  If you haven't, we can't be friends. Seriously though - most of us have seen that movie about the elf that's not really an elf, but has more Christmas spirit than any of those other elves. You know, the “real” elves. And we know how it ends - with everybody singing, and Santa's sleigh soaring high into the sky because the "Christmas Spirit" has been restored. Watching that movie with my son a couple years ago touched my heart in an unexpected way, and I share a little bit of why that was...here. Episode 130: The One With The 2023 Thanksgiving Episode
2023/11/23
The holidays are an emotionally charged time of year, right? You're excited and basking in the ooey gooey warmth of the holidays. Christmas movies are on rotation, Sirius is playing holiday music, you're spending way too much money on holiday decorations when you visit Target, Hobby Lobby and/or Home Depot. Or is that just me? ;) But you know...sometimes the holidays have you feeling a bit like Charlie Brown. Kind of down, but you're not quite sure why. Or maybe you DO know why. I have coined 2023 as my "Year of The Leather Pants," a la Ross from FRIENDS. I thought this year was going to be great, just like he thought leather pants on a date were going to be a good idea. But this year has turned into a hot, sweaty mess. I've tried praying and crossing my fingers and putting good vibes out into the world, but so far, the only thing I've gotten from that is a paste that, like Ross, has prevented me from pulling my life together in the way I'd hoped (or in his case, just being able to pull his pants up would have been a win). It's hard to be thankful when you feel like life isn't going your way. But when I whipped out my magnifying glass to look a little bit closer, I found micro-moments that made me realize there are things I can, and should be, appreciative of. Something I also found...is that by doing something nice and thoughtful for myself, I'm actually showing MYSELF appreciation. All that I've been through this past year, and pretty much my entire life, and I haven't given up. I'm still here. I may not always be standing, but I'm still here, and that's worth acknowledging and celebrating. And when I do good for ME, it shifts my mindset, and I'm able to see things differently. I find that there is more to be thankful for than I realized, or maybe even just wanted to admit because I was feeling down and Grinchy. So if you're struggling this year, know you're not alone. Imagine me grabbing your hand and giving you a hug, telling you "I know how this feels." Go do something nice for yourself, just because. And see how that shifts things for you. And before I go...thank you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for tuning in episode after episode. I wouldn't be 130 episodes in if it weren't for you and others like you listening, sharing your thoughts and hearts with me, and letting me know that I'm not alone. Your encouragement and support means so much to me. And I hope in some way, I'm able to do the same for you. Happy Thanksgiving, Friend. (Oh...and if you make a trifle, don't follow Rachel's recipe) Did you love this episode? If so, I want to know! Send me a DM @itsactuallykristi on Instagram, or send me an email at [email protected]. If you reallllly loved the episode, please "Like It" or "Heart It" or whatever it is you need to do to show the podcast some love on whatever platform you're listening on. Episode 129: The One Where She Talks About Matthew Perry
2023/11/17
Where were you when you found out we'd lost a beloved friend? I was sitting at the dining room table when a friend texted me with the news. And I thought it was a cruel, sick joke. But unfortunately, it wasn't. Many of us were introduced to Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, the witty and quippy neighbor to Monica Geller, and best friend of her brother, Ross. Over the course of 10 years, Matthew stole our hearts and brightened our days with his charm and comedic timing. For those of us who felt alone, he truly did become someone we sought comfort in. So when we learned of his passing, our hearts broke and we grieved. Even though most of us didn't know him personally, we still lost a friend. "FRIENDS" is a huge part of my life. You know how some people are with Star Wars? That's how I am with "FRIENDS." If they had a "FRIENDS" convention, I'd be there. And Chandler? Well, he was the character I related to the most. And in this episode, I talk about why that is. I talk about how I, and others, feel now that Matthew Perry is gone. And how Matthew's struggles became his strength...so that he could help other people. Episode 128: The One Where She Talks About Saving The "Scaries" For Halloween
2023/11/03
We all know what it's like to feel scared, right? And a lot of us like that feeling - it's why we enjoy movies that make us jump and check under our beds before we go to sleep. It's why we fork over $20 and wait in line for an hour just to be chased by zombies and chainsaw-wielding psychopaths. But do you ever stop to think about how often you feel scared "in real life?" What do you want to do, but don't, because you're scared of what someone might think or say? What do you hold yourself back from because you're scared of failing? Or, you're scared of actually succeeding? Even if we believe we act courageously, there are plenty of things in life where I think many of us allow fear to run the show. And it's time we faced our fears, just like Nancy did with Freddy back on Elm Street, and show them who's boss (FYI it's you, not Tony Danza). Episode 127: The One Where She Riffs About Joy & Reconnecting With Your Inner Child
2023/10/28
When was the last time you felt JOY? Like, pure JOY? The other day, we had our first snowfall of the season, and I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. And what made it even better...is that my KID, upon seeing the snow, reacted like he would as though it were Christmas morning, and it melted my heart. Feeling the excitement bubbling up inside me as I hurried to the window in the wee hours of the morning, and then watching my kid be just as excited, reminded me of how we used to be as kids... The innocence and pure hearts we had as we experienced the world. And then how circumstances or time (or both) kind of "forced" us to "grow up" and leave that sweet, pure child behind. And it made me sad. It also made me realize that while we can't give Cher a call and ask her to help us turn back time, we CAN acknowledge that innocence we once had, and make space for it again. What if reconnecting with our inner child made us feel more whole, more like who we were meant to be in the first place? And what would our world look like if we all made space for sweetness, joy and fun? There's only one way to find out! Did you love this episode? If so, I want to know! Send me a DM @itsactuallykristi on Instagram, or send me an email at [email protected]. Episode 126: The One Where She Talks About Obstacles & Mental Gymnastics
2023/10/19
How do you feel about the "hard stuff" in life? Do you grab your battle gear, channel your best Bill and Ted, and say "Party On, Dudes!" or do you throw your battle gear into the bushes, and then dive into them yourself...wishing your battle gear was camo? I recently completed an obstacle course race, my first in ages, and realized how so much of what I encountered during that experience was a metaphor for life. Getting over ourselves and our fears to do what we need to do....to take care of bizness! If you want to know more, about the race, about those "mental gymnastics," and what I gained from this experience (aside from majorly sore legs), then give this episode a listen! And if you don't listen, you owe me 30 penalty burpees! ;) Did you love this episode? If so, I want to know! Send me a DM @itsactuallykristi on Instagram, or send me an email at [email protected]. If you reallllly loved the episode, please "Like It" or "Heart It" or whatever it is you need to do to show the podcast some love on whatever platform you're listening on.
