On Friday, March 28th, 2003, the last bell rang at Reagan High School in Austin, Texas, and students flooded into the hallways, rejoicing that the weekend was finally here. But soon, those excited shouts and plans for the weekend turned into screams of terror, and one of the students ran into Vanessa Conner’s classroom, telling her she had to come out into the hall to see what had happened. On August 15, 1994, at 11:15pm 911 dispatchers in Salt Lake City, Utah received numerous phone calls from a cozy, middle class neighborhood. Several people reported hearing a terrible screaming, howling sounds as if someone was being t0rtured. When police arrived in the neighborhood several minutes later, they were able to follow the awful sound into the backyard of one of the houses lining the street. When they arrived, they found several brave neighbors with flashlights and a hysterical man standing in a koi pond, screaming and throwing heavy rocks and bricks into the water. The neighbors had clearly been trying to comfort the man for some time, but he was absolutely inconsolable. As the p0lice got closer, they also noticed the b0dy of a woman, lying on the ground near the pond. On the 8th of September 2013, 31-year-old Morgan Huxley was dropped off just outside his flat in Sydney’s Neutral Bay suburb after he and several of his friends attended an engagement party in nearby Lane Cove. Morgan tried to convince his friends to come have one more drink with him, but it was already almost 1 in the morning, so they told him that they were going to head home. Morgan walked into The Oakes Hotel, which housed his favorite pub, and ordered a beer. But Morgan didn’t know that someone across the street carefully watched him through the glass of the pub as he sipped his beer and watched TV, and when he left 30 minutes later, he had no idea that someone was following him down the street, waiting to strike. At 4:18 am on April 18, 2016, Missy Bevers arrived at Creekside Church of Christ to prepare for a workout she would be hosting at 5am later that morning. On May 19th, 1983, employees at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon were shocked and horrified when the quiet night was interrupted by a bloody woman falling out of her car and repeatedly saying, “Please help my children, please help my children.” The woman was Diane Downs, and she told the hospital employees that she and her three children had been shot by a bushy-haired man on their drive home. On Saturday, May 31st, 2014, Greg Steinburg was bicycling along Big Bend Road near his home in Waukesha, Wisconsin, when he stumbled upon a girl lying in the grass toward the end of the dead-end road. As he got closer, he saw that the girl was alive, but covered in blood. Steinburg dropped his bike in the road, and rushed to help the girl. With shaking hands, he took his phone from his pocket and dialed 911. Officer Dan Klein arrived at the scene just a couple of minutes later. He called out to the girl as he approached, introducing himself and asking if she was okay. As he got closer, the blood stains on her clothes seemed to grow. Officer Klein soon learned that the girl’s name was Payton Leutner (light-ner) and when he asked her who had hurt her, she told him that her best friend, 12-year-old Morgan Geyer, had stabbed her with a knife. We then discuss three seemingly random murders - the 2011 murder of David Grubbs in Ashland, Oregon, the 2016 murder of Luccas McNeill in Portland, Oregon and the 2021 murder of Travis Juetten in Silverton, Oregon. The Bermuda Triangle is the infamous expanse of ocean located between Miami, Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Records of difficulties in the region stretch as far back as Christopher Columbus’s fateful voyage to North America in 1492, but in the last century, the Bermuda Triangle has been the site of at least 50 ship disappearances, 20 plane disappearances, countless plane and ship wrecks and over 1,000 fatalities. We don’t have time to discuss all of those mysterious disappearances in depth, but in this episode we’re going to discuss some of the more infamous disappearances that happened in the Bermuda Triangle and even suggest some theories as to why these disappearances and wrecks may have happened.
