In this episode, I’m joined by my guest Emily Earnest from Plot Holes and Purrs as we dive into (and roast to a crisp) the Chapters story “I am The Dragon King’s Slave Mate.” In our first episode, we meet Paulelikka—a human girl who gets kidnapped by the dragon king immediately after turning 18 (because, of course she does), and quickly discovers she is his “mate.” Naturally, she’s also the first human ever to mate with a dragon, because this genre truly never misses a trope. We talk through the story beats, the familiar romantasy clichés, and all the moments that make you pause and go, “okay… sure,” while trying to keep a straight face.  Speaking of tropes, this episode is sponsored by Tropetails! They make instant drink mixes designed for book lovers, perfect for when you want to turn your reading time into a little ritual. I’ve been really enjoying them myself, especially for cosy nights in. You can get 10% off your order with my code bashtropes at checkout. If you enjoy romantasy commentary, trope breakdowns, and a bit of light chaos, this episode is for you! We’re back, baby. After a year-long hiatus brought to you by ✨having an actual human child✨, Paul and I have returned to the chaos that is the Chapters app — and apparently distance has NOT made our hearts grow fonder… it has made us angrier. In this episode, we dive back into Love at Stake, where a human girl works at a supernatural dating service and somehow still has to choose between a vampire and a werewolf while enduring peak emotional warfare. Paulelica is once again getting absolutely played by Lucien, the mind games are strong, the dates are questionable, and yes — we are yelling about it like concerned relatives at a family intervention.Same unhinged energy as before. Same ridiculous storyline. Just two sleep-deprived parents who somehow came back even more feral about fictional men.🎧 New episode out now — come scream with us. Louise and Anton reach a compromise regarding their conflicting relationship demands. We learn more about what happened to Louise last Christmas, because in this book Christmas day is the only day of the year where anything ever seems to happen. Louise and Anton continue their high school style flirting while patients around them are probs dying. Betsy talks shit about a pick-me comedian. Alex asks the Samaritans for a sponsorship. The story actually goes get a bit deep though in this episode not gonna lie, there are some good, emotional plot points besides the butchering of Italian culture and cheesy sexual innuendos. I sat down with author/comedian Elizabeth Redmond and discussed her amazing novel, "The Final Resting Place of a Butterfly." I really enjoyed this book; the imagery was palpable and touched upon all of the five senses, it made you feel like you were really there in the midst of the Mexican Revolution. Redmond's novel also deals with themes such as multiculturalism, dealing with narcissistic abuse, generational trauma, and feminism. This book truly pulled on my heartstrings, and I highly advise people to check it out. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bad-book-bash--5889791/support.

Grace's mentor turns out to be less of a girl-boss and more of a girl-who-tries-to-get-you-to-kill-yourself, which isn't fun. Jez and Sidorio confront the vampirates, and Connor and the vampirate captain help take them turn. Connor's new bestie stabs him in the back, literally. Christina and Vittorio lose their last nerve Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bad-book-bash--5889791/support.

Grace and Connor meet a few famous pirates who are just hanging around the Pirate academy, because that's what cool, famous people do, right? Hang around their middle-school alma mater with a bunch of pre-tweens and gossiping with them. Grace keeps astrally projecting to the vampirates ship, even though most of them are telling her to f**k off. Grace and Connor are introduced to the Pirate academy; a posh boarding school where children are sent to learn about stealing, murder, and how to eat caviar. These pirates are sounding more corporate at each page turn. A violent fight breaks out between Connor's friend, Jez, and another pirate, which brings an incredible amount of shock to the entire Diablo crew despite them being pirates and fighting being the main thing they do. Christina and Vittorio share stories about how funerals go down in Irish and South African cultures. Sidorio, the bad guy from the last book, hovers around the coast like a homeless alligator Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bad-book-bash--5889791/support.

Grace and Connor Tempest are two orphaned twins who got swept away at sea. Connor was rescued by a regular pirate ship, while Grace was picked up by a VAMPIRATE ship! In the last book, Connor and Grace each went on their respective pirate journeys, and were reunited at the finale's epic battle. Book 2 starts off with Connor and Grace each working away on the regular pirate ship, while Grace daydreams about abandoning her twin brother to join the literal blood-thirsty pirates. Our guest stars are South African comedian and writer Vittorio Leonardi, and Irish comedian and host of "Last Minute Craic" Christina Hamilton!
