She assumed office in January 2022, following a nation-wide search process and an unanimous vote by the college's Board of Trustees on November 4, 2021. Dr. Willis is the first African American to lead the college in its 51-year history. Since 1970, Howard Community College (HCC) has been a preferred college choice for students and families in Howard County, Maryland. A public community college, HCC offers associate degree and certificate programs, as well as workforce development training and continuing education classes, to nearly 30,000 credit and noncredit students each year.
