It’s Alive!: Preseason Puck Drop 09/21/26 We’re Back! A full-length episode is in the works to kick off the Pittsburgh Penguin’s regular season campaign. The Dubas Cube 07/31/26
2026/07/31
The Dubas Cube 07/31/26 Per The Athletic’s Josh Yohe, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2026-2027 season holds the promise of … not much! PIT’s GM, Kyle Dubas wasn’t all that impressed with what he saw when he went free-agency-shopping, or the pieces he coveted were simply out of his league, for lack of a better turn of phrase. Jordan and Jeff talk Malkin, Kuzmenko, Murashov, Silovs, Chinakov, and… now wait JUST a minute… are the Penguins “Turning Russian” — more than a little like an Eastern European version of a racy early 80’s pop song? Tee Time For Pittsburgh 05/06/26
2026/05/06
Tee Time For Pittsburgh 05/06/26 The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2025-26 campaign has come to an end. Eliminated in an overtime, Game 6 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pens overachieved and bowed out early. No harm, no foul. We all got extra hockey, the organization generated some playoff revenue from tickets, concessions, and merch, and after a slow start, we were all treated to some thrilling hockey in Games three through six. Jeff and Jordan recap the season that was, discussing - among other things - Evgeni Malkin’s future with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game Six: Balboa Penguins Force Philly Return 04/29/26
2026/04/29
Game Six: Balboa Penguins Force Philly Return 04/29/26 No one saw any of this coming, so each shift we behold - with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang together in the Stanley Cup Playoffs - is a gift to Penguins fans around the world. And yet we find ourselves riveted by the drama, as number eighty-seven and his scrappy, resilient team pushes through the reedy swamp of the most unlikely of comebacks. The Flyers, after jumping out to a three games to none lead, have stumbled while the Pens have surged. Former Calder Cup MVP and Penguins net minder Arturs Silovs stood tall in games four and five, and heretofore absent elements to the Penguins’ postseason game: Depth scoring, Superstars getting going, just to name a couple, have arrived at either just the right moment …or a little bit too late. Either way, we’re being treated to a classic. A Keystone State Battle to write home about. Tonight the Penguins visit Philadelphia for what will either be their storybook season’s final tilt or, as some die-hard Penguins fans assert and hope: one more salvo in the name of a reverse sweep. Make no mistake: The Flyers faithful are sweating this game. Enjoy the podcast - Jeff and Jordan are back with you for some spirited Penguins hockey talk. Also, special thanks to Hunter and Jacob, a couple of newly minted hockey fans who came in through the ‘Heated Rivalry’ side-entrance. Jeff met them at a local coffee shop, spotting them in some crisp, new Rakell / Crosby jerseys and simply had to ask them for a quick chat. “X” Men 04/12/26
2026/04/12
“X” Men 04/12/26 The Pittsburgh Penguins are going back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs!! Needless to say, Jordan and Jeff are beside themselves with unadulterated joy, personified by the sign-offs you’ll hear at the conclusion of today’s episode. Sidney, Kris, Evgeni, Erik, Bryan, and Ben all sat and rested their weary bones for yesterday’s 6-3 loss to Ovechkin and the visiting Washington Capitals, but the big boys will PLAY today as the Caps make their final regular season home-ice appearance. That’s clunky writing folks, but it’s Sunday afternoon and admin is heading to their part-time job. Florida Men 04/02/26
2026/04/02
Florida Men 04/02/26 Nothing says ice hockey like FLORIDA, as for the past two NHL seasons no hockey club has been more successful than the FLORIDA Panthers. And if it’s Florida hockey yinz want, then you’re in luck - the Penguins tonight kick off a three-game stint versus the Lightning and Panthers. Tonight’s game versus the Bolts will be played in Tampa, with the Cats curling up in Pittsburgh for a back-to-back residency at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday and Sunday. The Tampa team looks pretty darned dangerous and it’s never wise to count out a reigning Stanley Cup champ, regardless of (the Panthers’ mounting) ongoing injuries. Here's a link to Luke Temple's "Florida," a favorite song of mine. - Jeff Taylorhttps://music.apple.com/us/album/florida/677360515?i=677360696 Very special thanks to Espresso A Mano, Pittsburgh’s finest coffee roasters and cafe, for partnering with Fly Penguins Fly podcast. Lords Of The Shootout 03/27/26
2026/03/27
Lords Of The Shootout 03/27/26 As we’ve been saying for YEARS, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the Lords Of The Shootout, striking fear into the hearts of any opposing team’s goaltender.. etc, etc. We kid, we kid. Back-to-back shootout victories for your Pittsburgh Penguins are of course unheard of and downright unexpected - but the Steel City’s flagship hockey club managed the feat nonetheless, besting ace goaler, Linus Ullmark for a massive 2-point party in the capital of Canada. As of today’s posting (Fri March 27, 2026) the Penguins are in sole possession of 2nd place in the Metropolitan division. The podcast you’re listening to was recorded the day before said game, on the heels of two epic home losses to the NHL’s top teams, Carolina and Colorado. You Don’t Say Shutout 03/03/26
2026/03/03
You Don’t Say Shutout 03/03/26 Almost anything goes in ice hockey - but you never, EVER, under any circumstances …say the word ‘shutout’ if your goalie hasn’t let up a goal and there’s still hockey left to play in the game. The Pittsburgh Penguins are on a roll coming out of the Olympic break, garnering points in the Eastern Conference standings in all of their three games since. With the Boston Bruins on the slate for tonight, let’s keep rooting on the Black and Gold - the ones from Pittsburgh, now… - and BEAT BOSTON. Olympic Hangover 02/23/26
2026/02/25
Olympic Hangover 02/23/26 Sidney Crosby played well in the Milan Cortina Olympic prelims, then sustained a serious lower body injury in Team Canada’s quarterfinal game against Czechia. Team USA ultimately won gold in dramatic OT fashion, with NJD’s Jack Hughes netting the deciding tally. The Penguins are back in action on home ice, this Thursday against Hughes’s NHL squad, followed by a Saturday visit to MSG and the reigning gold medal-winning HC, former PIT bench boss Mike Sullivan. Joe Brand: Radio Voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins 11/21/25 Now fully settled into a chair once occupied by Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike Lange, radio announcer Joe Brand has also been winning over the ears and hearts of the Penguins faithful. From his time as an intern with a minor league baseball team, to calling Sidney Crosby’s equalizing goal in a chippy NHL rivalry game, Brand has blazed his own trail in a competitive field - while always acknowledging those who helped him along the way. Pingvinerna är i Sverige 11/13/25
2025/11/14
Pingvinerna är i Sverige 11/13/25 The Penguins are indeed In Sweden, even when said in English. Jeff Taylor and Jordan DeFigio talk through the Pittsburgh Penguins’ recent, inevitable “cooling-off,” following one of the hottest starts the NHL has seen this season. Most recently, the team has gone on a tepid 1-3-1 run, during which time they generally continued to play well. Results matter, though and over the past five games the Penguins have mostly failed at gaining two points on a given night. Sergei Murashov’s stellar NHL debut - a loss on home ice to the LA Kings - was as promising a preview of the young Russian goaltender’s NHL career as a serious hockey fan could have hoped for. Jordan and Jeff discuss the Pens’ recent back-to-back matchups against the Devils and Kings, with a special focus on Murashov’s performance. Cody Hodgson and The RYR-1 Foundation 11/11/25
2025/11/12
Cody Hodgson and The RYR-1 Foundation 11/11/25 Diagnosed in 2016 with RYR-1-related malignant hyperthermia, Cody Hodgson’s promising NHL playing career was cut short when the effects of his disease made it impossible for him to push his body to the extent necessary in pro hockey. However, what initially looked like a major setback gave way to a very different, equally powerful calling. Now an active ambassador for the Pittsburgh, PA-based RYR-1 Foundation, Hodgson is precisely the kind of figure in the hockey world that our production staff loves connecting with. With mobile recording gear in tow, our producer and co-host, Jeff Taylor recently joined the RYR-1 Foundation in Pittsburgh for their 10th anniversary conference. A handful of in-depth interviews were conducted that day, including with former NHL’er Cody Hodgson himself, as well as Toronto-based anesthesiologist Dr. Sheila Riazi, Hodgson’s diagnosing physician.
