We discuss the first appearance of the bestest little guy Dog, the wise-beyond-her-years neighbor girl Audrey, and of course, the (technically) first time Gwyneth Paltrow is on film. Yes, we talk about Goop. Also, we make an announcement at the end: Dessy will be stepping back from the podcast for a bit due to scheduling and personal reasons, but don't worry! Wake Up Dead Man is the latest Benoit Blanc mystery film from Rian Johnson, of Knives Out fame. This time going for a dark, gothic mystery bathed in religion, Blanc assists Father Jud who's (of course) been accused of murder. A big, stellar cast, excellent cinematography, and plenty of humor keep us entertained this time around, although we do have a few critiques as well! We dive into just how Catholic this movie is, the excellent performances from Josh O'Connor and Daniel Craig, and we even have our usual diversions to talk about another movie or two. The Portopia Serial Murder Case is an early adventure game made by Yuji Horii, which combines adventure game mechanics with text adventures and hard-boiled detective stories! The result? A surprising game that seems almost banal and short by today's standards, but had a huge impact on creators like Hideo Kojima, Eiji Aonuma, Shu Takumi, and many, many more.
