Description

On The Porch with Front Porch Music is a Canadian country music podcast built around real conversations and genuine connection. Every two weeks, hosts Logan Miller and Jenna Weishar sit down with the artists shaping Canadian country music — from the biggest names in the genre, to rising stars, to the ones you might not have heard of yet (but will soon). It’s less about rapid-fire questions and more about pulling up a chair, slowing down, and talking about the stories behind the songs. The Front Porch has always been a gathering place in country music, and that’s exactly what this podcast is: the digital front porch for the Canadian country music community. Proudly CCMA-nominated and Canadian Podcast Award–nominated, On The Porch celebrates the people, moments, and music that make the Canadian country scene so special. Pull up a seat and join us on the porch.

2026/10/13
Send us Fan Mail Another festival season has come and gone, but we were sure to hit the 401 East headed for Montréal in August. We love LASSO and every year they remind us why.  We spent our time eating poutine, drinking Aperol Spritz, and taking in the festival experience - and of course, interviewing some of your favourite artists. We chatted with Jonah Kagen, Kalsey Kulyk, Joel Vogt, Theo Day, and Noah Brigden. We also chatted with SiriusXM Top of the Country finalists, Shawnee Kish, Morgan Griffiths, and Blue Ridge Band. If you’re curious about the festival, 2027 headliner announcements are hopefully on the horizon. Paige Penney: A Sound Built at the Kitchen Table
2026/09/29
Send us Fan Mail Paige Penney grew up writing songs at her kitchen table with her dad long before she knew that's what it was called. On this episode, she traces that path from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Nashville, including a self-funded debut EP at 14, her breakout single "Southern Drawl," and the rap-featuring risk that became "Going for Broke." She also talks about winning the second year of Country Rising, the East Coast community that helped get her there, and what's ahead on a cross-Canada tour. From Quitting His Job To CCMA Nominations and Top Of The Country with Morgan Griffiths
2026/09/15
Send us Fan Mail Morgan Griffiths joined us On the Porch to talk about the whirlwind that has been his life the last year and a half. He went from shy kid to full-time artist, quit his job, and has been building momentum with radio success, making the final 3 for SiriusXM's Top of the Country and having his first CCMA nominations. He also shares the story behind his latest single, "Boondocks", how Top of the Country has opened new doors and taken him to new places, and what it feels like to head into the CCMAs as a nominee. Morgan  picked up guitar during COVID, started by playing covers, and eventually began writing his own songs by humming melodies over chords. He grew up fairly shy, and playing music has helped him break out of his shell and become comfortable performing in front of people. Robyn Ottolini: "Growing Down " and Finding a "Safe Place To Land" in Her Debut Album
2026/09/01
Send us Fan Mail Robyn Ottolini has delivered A Safe Place To Land, her debut album, full of self-love and life lessons.  We had Robyn join us On The Porch to dive into her album and her concept of "growing down".  We discussed moments of virality, including those for her singles "Airplane Bottle" and "Growing Down" and why she feels like some of this connects with the internet so well. Robyn also talked about being an introvert, her creative side, and why she selfishly loves the planet. Shawnee Kish: Just 3 CCMA Nominees Hanging Out ...
2026/08/04
Send us Fan Mail Before Shawnee Kish was writing chart-worthy country songs, she was a kid doing Shania Twain impressions at local parades in Welland, Ontario, a "job" that turned into birthday parties and festival gigs long before she ever picked up a pen to write her own material. On this episode, Shawnee talks about writing as a lifeline during a hard adolescence, and how that same honesty still drives her music today. She's open about the pressure she's felt over the years to fit a certain mold, and the extra weight that's come with being a female, indigenous, two-spirit artist in country music, along with how she's learned to keep showing up as herself anyway. We also get into her whirlwind year: a Top of the Country finalist spot alongside Morgan Griffiths and Blue Ridge Band, a first-ever CCMA nomination for Alternative Country Album of the Year, and a new single called "Ride the River" landing in late August. She wrote her Top of the Country song, "Ride at Dawn," in under a week, and not long after headlined her first all-women country festival lineup, an experience she says confirmed exactly why she does this. Funny enough, this conversation turned out to be three CCMA nominees in one room. We'll see her again at Lasso and again at the CCMAs this fall. Blue Ridge Band: Nordiques, Country Storm, and Country Music in Quebec with Jeremy Plante
2026/07/21
Send us Fan Mail Jeremy Plante's music career started out in pop-punk - a bit of an adjacent to country, some might say. Playing in bands his whole life, he's still in two! Before finding his way to country, he was a contestant on Star Académie. These days he's fronting Blue Ridge Band, one of Quebec's fastest rising country Bands. It's been a big year for "BRB"; a finalist spot in SiriusXM's Top of the Country alongside Shawnee Kish and Morgan Griffiths, a set at Lasso Music Festival, and enough overnight drives back and forth between Ontario and Quebec to make anyone's back hurt. On this episode, Jeremy breaks down just how different the country music landscape looks in Quebec, where major English Canadian acts barely register and building a following means playing constantly, and playing well. He also talks about starting his own festival series that still runs today. We also got into hockey, since Jeremy grew up in Quebec City, in what he calls "a full French area," where the sport isn't a hobby, it's inherited.  He played until midget and only stopped because touring stopped leaving room for practice. He's holding out cautious hope for hockey's return to Quebec City, and talks about the gap he sees in opportunities for girls trying to play at a competitive level, including why he'd welcome the PWHL expanding into the province. Blue Ridge Band's current single "Loving You Is Easy" is available everywhere now! Brock Phillips: Brock Stars, Bar Gigs, and 400 Songs
2026/07/07
Send us Fan Mail Brock Phillips grew up in Fort Langley, BC, screaming Avenged Sevenfold lyrics in the backseat of his parents' car with his headphones in. Oddly enough, his educator parents were very supportive of his pursuit of a music career. Now he's in Nashville with a publishing deal, four hundred songs in the catalogue, and his name on Canadian country radio with his debut single "Somebody Else". On this episode, Brock talks about the four years he walked away from music completely, why squeezing it too tight almost killed it for him, and how a random bar gig at Simon Fraser University changed everything. He gets into his love for Jason Isbell, his philosophy on songwriting with intention, and why he thinks country music is whatever you want it to be right now. Also, the Brock Stars fan club name was invented live on this episode, and we're pretty sure it's going to stick. His newest single "Leave Me Like A Backroad" features Dallas Smith, he has another single coming in September, and a debut album is in the works. This really was part one of a great conversation. _ We’re so excited to welcome you back for Season 5 of On The Porch with Front Porch Music.  If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, and subscribe ... it’s one of the easiest ways to support the show and helps more listeners find us. Tenille Arts: Dethroning Terri Clark
2026/06/23
Send us Fan Mail From Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Tenille Arts is one of the most accomplished Canadian country singers of the last ten years. And we were sure to roll her credits during this episode of the podcast. Tenille's first number one "Somebody Like That" is double platinum, and was the first number one to be written, produced and performed by all females. The single marked the first since Teri Clark in 2007 to reach number one in the United States. Tenille is a multi-CCMA Award winner, an ACM nominee for New Female Artist of the Year, iHeartRadio nominee for Best New Country Artist, and much more.  We had a really great chat with Tenille about much more than this. Her incredibly dedicated fanbase, her career as an artist and songwriter, and some of the deep album cuts that didn't really get their moment. If you're an emerging artist listening - take out your pen and notes. Alex Hughes: From Calgary to LA to Nashville and Back Home
2026/06/09
Send us Fan Mail Alex Hughes is a born-and-raised Calgary artist who has been performing since she was seven years old. She went from opening for her cousins' band at family gatherings, to chasing her career in LA and Nashville, to landing back home and making the music she always wanted to make. Her debut EP Take Me Home is out now. It's been a long time coming. We talked about growing up performing through the Calgary Stampede talent search, what it was like to move to LA at twenty and work with Grammy Award-winning producer Walter Athanasiev, the difference between LA's image-first culture and Nashville's story-first mentality, why coming back to Canada felt scary at first and then felt like exactly the right move, the song that sparked the whole project ("Until This Fire Dies"), and why "Slow Dancing in the Kitchen" almost didn't make the EP, and why she couldn't put it out without it. Also: she once drove around Alberta in a truck with her face on it. We definitely got into that. Alex is playing the Coke Stage at the Calgary Stampede this summer, along with Peach Fest in Penticton and Feast on the Beach in Cold Lake. And yes, vinyl is on the way. Rosewood Ave: They Met on MSN. Now They're on the Radio
2026/05/26
Send us Fan Mail Sabrina and Dave of Rosewood Avenue are a husband and wife country duo from Northern Ontario. And when they say Northern Ontario, they mean it.  Think past Muskoka ... past Sudbury ... and keep going. They're near Timmins, home of Shania Twain, in a small town called Matheson. They've been making music together for 17 years, but it's only been the last five or six that they've been pushing it on a professional level. Sabrina spent nine years teaching music before making the leap.  Dave's always had music in his blood, with a cousin who plays lead guitar for Johnny Reid. Together, they've built something that sounds like Northern Ontario feels: honest, warm, and rooted. The band name? A little bit of a love story.  Sabrina's maiden name, Charleboix, has "bois" in it, which means wood in French. Dave always bought her roses. And Devonshire Avenue is the street where they first met as neighbours, connected by a very 2000s introduction through MSN Messenger. We talked about how they balance being a couple, co-writers, and business partners, what it was like for Dave to go from strictly guitar player to vocalist, why they haven't left their small town and don't plan to anytime soon, the Ontario country community and what it's meant to their career, and the emotional experience of hearing "Leavin' Town" on the radio for the first time. Rosewood Avenue's current single "Leavin' Town" is at Canadian country radio now, sitting in the top 50 and climbing.  We're so excited to welcome you back for Season 5 of On The Porch with Front Porch Music. The Business of Music. mastered. pulls back the curtain on the music industry, with real conversations about labels, touring, booking, and what it actually takes to build a career as an artist. Patrick Guay is a booker and promoter based in Montreal who works with Evenko, one of Canada's leading live entertainment companies. He's behind some of the biggest festivals in the country, including Lasso, Osheaga, and Ilesoniq, as well as roughly 1,600 shows a year across arenas and clubs throughout Quebec and Atlantic Canada. In this episode, Patrick and Jenna dig into what it actually takes to get booked on a major festival stage and why most artists aren't thinking about it the right way. They talk about how bookers evaluate artists, why ticket sales matter more than social media numbers, the importance of building your market from the ground up, and what a realistic path to a big stage actually looks like. Patrick also shares how he got his start in the industry, what he looks for when an artist pitches him, and why relationships and reputation go a long way in a music scene as small as Canada's. If you've ever wondered how to get on a festival lineup, or whether you're actually ready, this one is a must-listen. Owen Riegling: Celebrating Episode 100, “In The Feeling”, an Opry Debut and more
2026/04/28
Send us Fan Mail From the voice that brought you the On The Porch theme song, is our 100th episode with Owen Riegling.  If you have been listening since the early days, we did proclaim our 100th episode would be with Shania Twain, we even called it the "Road to Shania". Somewhere along the way we got distracted by all of the incredibly talented artists across Canada. We're thrilled to be celebrating our 100th episode with Owen. He has a lot to show for the last four years. From recording in his parents' driving shed with a handful of self-produced songs out - to a record deal, publishing deal, years of touring under his belt, multiple CCMA Awards and two albums. I'm sure I missed something. Oh yes - he made his Grand Ole Opry debut April 22nd. We caught up on all the crazy that has been Owen's life the last few years.  We've got Owen slotted for episode 200, in real life, on a front porch, with a bottle of whiskey. Brettyn Rose: Read, Sing, Sleep, Repeat
2026/04/14
Send us Fan Mail Brettyn Rose grew up in Okotoks, Alberta. A very small town girl who enjoys the quiet, she now calls High River home. Just close enough to get to Calgary for gigs, but far enough away from the city to enjoy peace, quiet, and no traffic. Finding out pretty early that sports weren't for her, but music was, Brettyn started her music journey sitting at the piano. She began singing, and eventually picked up guitar. Brettyn released her first single in 2019 and has been an emerging independent artist since, slowly building, releasing singles, and playing live shows. Brettyn is also a 2025 SiriusXM Top of the Country alumni. Brettyn was nominated Horizon Female Artist and Songwriter of the Year (Wild West), at the Country Music Alberta Awards this year.  We talked about her education, and how it lends itself to music, some of her bucket list items as an artist, West Coast festivals that she's played and would love to play, and more.
