189: Raked Stucco | Albert Hotel
2026/10/02
In this episode, Cherise is joined by Paul Clayton, AIA, LEED AP, and Principal at Clayton Korte in Austin, Texas, and Travis Greig, AIA, Project Manager, also with Clayton Korte. They discuss the Albert Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Located in historic downtown Fredericksburg, the Albert Hotel draws on more than 175 years of Keidel family history in the Hill Country, bringing a contemporary hospitality experience to a site deeply connected to the town’s past. The new architecture takes cues from the surrounding natural environment. Custom raked stucco creates a textured exterior that responds to changing sunlight throughout the day and mimics limestone cliffs found around swimming holes in the hill country.

188: Adaptive Reuse | Neuhoff District
2026/09/25
In this episode, Cherise is joined by Dryden Razook, Principal at S9 Architecture in New York City. They discuss the Neuhoff District in Nashville, Tennessee.
You can see the project here as you listen along.
For decades, the abandoned Neuhoff slaughterhouse stood as a barrier between Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood and the Cumberland River, leaving a significant gap in the city’s urban fabric. S9 Architecture approached the site not as something to erase, but as an opportunity to build upon its industrial history and create a new neighborhood rooted in its context. The 914,000-square-foot Neuhoff District transforms the former meatpacking complex into a mixed-use neighborhood through a layered approach to adaptive reuse with a design that retains and restores significant industrial structures, introducing new buildings, landscape, and public spaces between them.

You can see the project here as you listen along.
The Flight 93 National Memorial transforms a former reclaimed strip mine in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, into a 2,200-acre landscape of remembrance, reflection, and environmental healing. Rather than imposing a singular monument on the site, the design unfolds as a carefully choreographed memorial landscape, including the 93-foot-tall Tower of Voices, which holds 40 wind chimes representing the 40 individuals aboard Flight 93. As wind passes through the tower, aluminum chimes of varying lengths respond with different tones, creating an ever-changing acoustic presence.
