Ep. 9: Thrilled
2026/07/27
Released in December of 2015, Thrilled was a somewhat experimental release that stands apart from much of the Punchline catalog. The album was the product of yet another major shift in the makeup of the band, now leaving only Steve and Chris to write and record as a duo. They leaned heavily into the world of synth pop, once again enlisting the help of producer Marc McClusky to bring their ambitious choices to life. What seemed like a sea change for Punchline in the moment now seems to fit perfectly into the discography, and this episode details how it all came to be. Ep. 7: Delightfully Pleased
2024/08/14
In this episode of the A Band Called Punchline podcast, the guys dive into the era of the 2010 album Delightfully Pleased. With the departure of both drummer and founding member PJ Caruso and guitarist and vocalist Jon Belan, Chris and Steve found themselves at a crossroads. Bringing back Paul seemed unlikely, but a reunion was on the horizon. Paul introduced a young drummer named Cory, who stepped in at the last minute to play drums on the album and subsequently joined the band. Recorded in Steubenville, Ohio, at a familiar studio, the album saw the return of producer Jamie Woolford, who had worked with the band on their previous album, Just Say Yes, in 2008. This exciting time also took the band back to Japan, though a misplaced passport left them stressing until the very last minute. Additionally, this era brought about the band's sketchy alter egos, adding another layer of fun and creativity to their journey. Delightfully Pleased marked a return to form while still pushing the boundaries of the band’s sound. Ep. 6: Just Say Yes

From the exciting tours that took them all the way to the UK to the unforgettable recording sessions of the Just Say Yes album, the band vividly relives these sometimes tumultuous but always creative times. This episode explores the band’s newfound confidence in self-releasing their music after being on a label for previous albums, which marked a defining crossroads in their journey into a DIY music landscape. Ep. 5: 37 Everywhere
2023/05/31
In early 2005, Punchline faced a career crossroads with the departure of guitarist and vocalist Paul Menotiades. With determination on high in the face of adversity, the original three members turned to longtime friend Greg Wood — a shredding guitarist with a unique voice and a commanding stage presence — to fill the void in their lineup. What followed was a relentless international tour schedule and the recording and release of a landmark album. In this episode, the band and an array of friends and colleagues tell the story of the 37 Everywhere era. Ep. 4: Action
2023/03/07
In the summer of 2003, Punchline headed to Chicago to record their Fueled By Ramen debut full-length Action with up-and-coming producer Sean O’Keefe. These 12 heartfelt and energetic songs would expose the band to a bigger audience than ever before, both through rigorous touring and widespread distribution. While a growing fanbase and a huge hometown release show for the record brought a lot of momentum, the constant self-comparisons to successful peers added crazy amounts of pressure. Coupled with serious issues within the band, Punchline hit a breaking point in early 2005. For the first time ever, the people who lived the Action era talk openly and honestly about the peaks and valleys of this unforgettable time. Ep. 3: The Rewind EP
2022/06/02
By 2002, things had kicked into high gear for Punchline. They had decided to pursue music full-time, and relentless touring soon followed. Grassroots promotion and a DIY outlook had helped them gain a strong following, especially in their hometown of Pittsburgh, and a follow-up to 2001’s Major Motion Picture album was the next step. The 4 musically ambitious tracks on The Rewind EP would help propel Punchline to the next level, and they soon signed to a growing independent record label. The excitement and spirit of this era is captured by the band members and a variety of friends in this episode.
