PCE and C97 are joined by sicada for a story that started with a little dog on a very hot highway and kept getting more interesting from there. A quiet few days of bush camping, a long weekend, a car that decided it was done, and a caravan left sitting out in the trees. Sicada is back with the full story (and the photos to prove it). Yes, we'll finish the story live. We also want to hear about the times a caching mate has turned up when you needed them most, whether that was a tow, a lift, a spare part or just someone to talk to at the end of a long day. Pop your stories in the chat or send them through beforehand. Enjoying the show, why not connect with GDU on our socials? This month on Geocaching Downunder, PurpleCacheEater and Cosmonaut97 are joined by Canberra cachers Tankengine and DTY73 to talk all things Gadget Caches. If you like caches with buttons, levers, puzzles, moving parts, clever mechanisms or those moments where you stand there thinking, “Righto... what am I supposed to do with this?”, this one is for you. Tankengine and DTY73 will be giving us a sneak peek at some of the gadget caches they have been creating for the Moruya GeoBash next year. Don’t worry, there’ll be no spoilers. We might show you the cache, but we’re definitely not giving away the trick to opening it! And these creations haven’t all come from one cacher’s brain. DTY73, along with her father YOUBAN, has helped Tankengine build caches and come up with gadget cache design ideas, so we’ll hear how some of those ideas go from “What if we tried this?” to a cache that has finders scratching their heads in the field. We’ll chat about what makes a great gadget cache, where the ideas come from, the challenges of turning those ideas into something that actually works, and the work Tankengine does producing high-quality digitally printed cache containers. Come along, join the chat and see just how much engineering, creativity and geocaching mischief can fit inside one cache container. Enjoying the show, why not connect with GDU on our socials? PurpleCacheEater is heading to Europe in June for 40 days, and cosmonaut97 is along for the ride... at least for this conversation! But first, there is a stopover in Singapore where PCE will be making a mad dash to grab a cache right there in the airport. Priorities, people. From there it is on to some of the most cache-rich destinations on the planet. London's CBD is calling with its incredible urban hides, while England and Ireland serve up centuries-old castles, stunning loughs and rugged coastlines just begging to be explored, cache in hand. Then it is off to Iceland, where volcanoes, geysers and waterfalls provide a backdrop unlike anything you will find back home. Norway takes things up another notch with its jaw-dropping fjords and some of the most scenic caching terrain in the world. And no European adventure would be complete without France, where PCE will be hunting for hides in the shadow of some of the most iconic landmarks on earth. Basically, PCE is living the dream and we are all coming along for the ride. Enjoying the show? Why not connect with GDU on our socials? What happens when a geocaching trip goes completely off the rails? isopeda joins PurpleCacheEater and cosmonaut97 for a cracking episode full of caching stories that were brilliant ideas right up until they absolutely weren't. From tumbling down cliffs and surviving snake bites, to being chased by cows (and yes, having them decide your car was a perfectly reasonable place to hang out), this one has it all. Chuck in a kangaroo bouncing off the car and leaving its mark on the caravan, and some truly painful DNFs, and you've got yourself a classic Geocaching Downunder disaster reel. These are the trips that didn't go to plan but somehow became the best stories in the hobby. Grab a cuppa and settle in. Enjoying the show, why not connect with GDU on our socials? In the March episode of Geocaching Downunder, PurpleCacheEater is joined by John and Cindy for a chat about JLWE, the June Long Weekend Event in South Australia. They will be talking all things Mount Burr Barnyard Bash, the 2026 event heading to Mount Burr in the Limestone Coast from 5 to 8 June, with a Country and Western theme ready to bring out the boots, the team names and the creative cache ideas. JLWE has been a much-loved fixture on the South Australian geocaching calendar since 2002, building a reputation for fun, friendship, clever gameplay and a weekend that keeps cachers coming back year after year. This episode is a great chance to hear what makes it special, what to expect from the event, and why it is one worth marking on the cache calendar. Whether you are already packing the swag, tossing up a road trip, or just curious about one of the community’s favourite long weekend events, this is the perfect chat to get you on the trail. We are back with another Geocaching Downunder episode. PurpleCacheEater and cosmonaut97 are joined by Jon (That_Geocaching_Guy) to talk about what makes EarthCaches so addictive, the moments that hook you, and the details that separate a good one from an unforgettable one. Jon shares how he helps the community through his EarthCache Writing 101 class, including teaching it remotely to a group in Queensland, and why you should absolutely reach out if you have an idea brewing. We also dig into the very real question he kept getting last year: “Can I turn this photo into an EarthCache?” It came up so often that Jon created his EarthCache or Pass? tool. If you stumble across something geologically interesting and think it might have EarthCache potential, you can submit the details and photos through his form and he will do some analysis to help you figure out if you have got something worth pursuing. And if you love a challenge, Jon has also created EarthCache Bingo with 25 squares to complete, which is basically permission to plan your next adventure around geology and smilies. We are kicking off 2026 with a bang. For the first episode of the year, PurpleCacheEater and cosmonaut97 kick off 2026 with special guest Beautifulsky13, the force behind It’s Raining Caches 2026. On 14 February 2026, hundreds of brand new caches will publish across Australia at the same time. One day. One drop. Smilies everywhere. We get into what IRC26 is, why cache owners from all over the country are jumping in, and why your watchlist is about to go wild. Big numbers, quality hides, and that buzz you only get when the map lights up like a freshly found ammo can. If you plan to play, travel, or just want front row seats to one of the biggest cache drops Australia has seen, this is where you start. Enjoying the show? Aquilus1 and Sacada set themselves one of the biggest geocaching missions you can imagine. First they found a cache in every Local Government Area (LGA) across Australia that has a geocache. Then they took on New Zealand, covering 17 LGAs in just five wild weeks on top of the 539 LGAs in Australia. From bogged vans and daily rain to volcanic islands, black sand beaches, and chance encounters with cops and kiwis, their adventure was as unpredictable as it was unforgettable. This is the story of two friends, years of planning, and the determination to log every available LGA in both countries. Enjoying the show, why not connect with GDU on our socials?
