In this sermon we follow David's story through 1 Samuel 31, 2 Samuel chapters 1-5. We recount David’s journey from Bethlehem, to the wilderness, to Hebron, to Jerusalem. After Saul's death, David asks God for direction, where to move. David obeyed God and moved to Hebron. As soon as David made the move, even without his making any effort the people of Judah came and made him their king. Hebron is where David learns to rule Judah before ruling Israel. Only later does he move to Jerusalem and establish his capital. An important lesson for us here. Anointing precedes appointment, and appointment precedes expansion. God anoints you, then appoints you and then consolidates and expands your work. We also the importance of positioning – learning to move in step and in time with God – to journey into what He has planned and purposed for us. We also discover the importance of the “Hebron season” where David a shepherd boy, who later led a band of about 400 men, learned to rule over a tribe, before he could rule over a nation. We identify some things that happened during his “Hebron season” that laid a good foundation for future consolidation and expansion. In our seasons of adversity/challenges/difficulties we must remember that God is still on our side and is at work in our lives. Learn to recognize what God is doing. Examining the life of David as recorded in 1 Samuel chapters 19-31, we highlight: 1, Recognize the people God is positioning around you. People whom God sends into your life during difficult times could be instrumental in helping you discern God’s direction for your life. 2, Recognize reminders of past victories. Recognize reminders of what God has done in your life. These are God’s divine assurances that He is still at work in your life. 3, Recognize how God is building your future even when everything is being stripped away. Recognize that God is putting things in place for a great future, even in the midst of adversity. 4, Recognize God’s protection from hasty action. Recognize how God is guiding you, protecting and establishing your steps and keeping you from mistakes, as you journey through difficult times. 5, Recognize God helping you recover all and more! Recognize the victories and success God gives you during your season of adversity. When God does amazing things in our lives, how do we sustain and build on the momentum we have experienced. How do we keep growing even in the middle of adversity? How do we keep growing and thriving, when we seem to be in a season of just surviving? We draw insights from David life given in 1 Samuel 19-31. This season of about 10 years was very difficult and yet David kept growing, building on the momentum he had experienced. To build on momentum - surround yourself with mentors and people who can speak into your life. To build on momentum - even if you are just surviving, keep growing. To build on momentum - build people around you. When they grow, you grow. To build on momentum - learn to hear from God. Only God can take you from faith to faith, strength to strength and glory to glory. To build on momentum - learn to honor people. Treat people with respect and the honor they are due. When you sow honor, God will grace your life with honor from heaven. To build on momentum - learn to strengthen yourself in God. Do this, even if you must do it alone, all by yourself. God brought David out of obscurity taking care of his father’s sheep, into visibility. David saw immediate success and great fame. But he stayed grounded and walked with wisdom and humility. There are key insights that teach us how to handle success in life: 1, A simple task could open the door to an unusual opportunity. 2, Be willing to do what no one else is willing to do. 3, Killing lions and bears prepares you to kill Goliaths. 4, Use your slingshot - what God has given you that you have proven in your own life. 5, Have confidence in your covenant with God and the God who keeps covenant. 6, Faith requires taking risks and courageous action. 7, Look beyond immediate success. 8, Always walk wisely and honor those above you. In this sermon series studying the life of king David, we draw key insights on how to build a good foundation for life. We examine three key insights. (1) A heart rooted in God is our foundation for all that is to be built in time to come. (2) Understand that your gifts open doors of service before you can step into places of leadership. (3) The experiences and learning that takes place in obscurity prepare us for the time God brings us into visibility. Hiddenness formed the man before visibility revealed the man. Do not be in a hurry to step into your prophetic destiny. Stay faithful in your current assignment, even when you are unrecognized, go unnoticed or unrewarded. God never fails to notice your faithfulness. Gilgal was the first campsite after crossing the river Jordan and entering the Promised Land. At Gilgal, God announced to His people "I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt". The pain, shame and disgrace of being slaves in Egypt had been removed. From here the people of Israel would carry out their conquests to possess the land of Promise. The Promised Land speaks to us of our inheritance in Christ. Our first campsite in the Promised Land, in our inheritance in Christ should be a place where we know that all pain and shame, all disgrace of our past life has been removed, in Christ. This is the place from which we begin our conquests to inherit and walk into all that God has made available to us. In this sermon we lead believers to experience a rolling away of reproach, a removal of pain, shame and disgrace. By the anointing of the Holy Spirit God places double honor for shame and joy instead of confusion. Receive your rolling away of the reproach of Egypt! Moses was a prophet-leader. Moses used a rod as a tool in his assignment. Joshua was a warrior-leader. Joshua held a spear as a tool in his assignment. Even though Joshua was trained under Moses for 40 years, Joshua didn’t just try to “copy” Moses. God did not instruct Joshua to use a rod like Moses did. Joshua needed to use the “ways and methods” that were relevant to God’s assignment on his life. God works in different ways and uses different methods and tools over time. While the Word and the Anointing do not change, the tools, ways and methods used to minister God’s Word and minister under the Anointing may change. Drawing from what we see in Moses and Joshua, we consider these five important insights: 1) there are new ways and methods to how God works, 2) what’s in your hand is aligned to your assignment, 3) God works with you when you work, 4) don’t let opposition or past failures stop you, 5) the anointing of the Spirit makes all the difference. Life is lived in seasons. God orders the seasons of our lives. Seasons change. Based on Joshua 5:10-12 we reflect on God's dealings with His people: In the WILDERNESS God provided MANNA from heaven as His people were in transition. In the PROMISED LAND they had to work the ground for PRODUCE as free people. MANNA was God's provision and blessing on obeying Him, during the JOURNEY. The PRODUCE was God's provision and blessing in obeying Him, by WORKING. In the WILDERNESS or in the PROMISED LAND, God was interested in their hearts being faithful and obedient to Him. We discuss some practical insights that we can apply to our lives: a) There are blessings in every season. b) Adapt to your current season, prepare for the next. c) Do not be jealous of someone else in a different season. d) Seasons change; God does not. He is still the same. In this sermon we examine Jesus' primary reason in giving us the parable of the unjust steward. We highlight key lessons that the Lord Jesus taught us from this parable: Use money to build friendships. Be faithful and honest in little things. Be faithful in money. Be faithful in what is another persons'. Be faithful to God - you cannot serve two masters. We also consider parallel texts including Matthew 6:19-24 that teaches us about guarding our heart, and our eye, so we serve God, and not money. Our heart and vision (focus) must be on God. This will ensure we serve God and master money. Watch our online Sunday Church service live stream every Sunday at 10:30am (Indian Time, GMT+5:30). In this third sermon on Stewardship Parables, we consider the parable of the workers and draw understanding about how God’s Kingdom operates. We learn that God overturns human ranking systems. Everyone received the same, indicating God's way of working. Key lessons we take away, include: A. Never compare yourself with others or other ministries. B. God rewards everyone as He sees best. C. Keep a humble heart when you are blessed with an early start and long service. D. Don't think you are superior because you are rewarded quicker and same as others who have labored long. E. We discuss the parable of the talents in this second sermon in this series on stewardship parables. We discuss several insights including: 1. God entrusts us with gifts, 2. Use what you have been given, 3. Operate in faith, not fear, 4. God wants us to grow, 5. Invest to be profitable, 6. Be faithful and profitable, 7. Everyone will be held accountable, and 8. Faithfulness and profitability are rewarded with increase. We also discuss the Kingdom Law of Stewardship given in this text: Everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. In this sermon series on Stewardship Parables, that the Lord Jesus taught we examine the parable of the wise servant. We gain a Biblical understanding of stewardship and the five responsibilities of stewardship. We discuss the three characteristics of good stewardship - being faithful, wise, committed. We also uncover the three wrong attitudes in stewardship: complacency, abuse and self-indulgence. We learn that good stewardship is to know, prepare and do the Master's will. All of us are stewards of the gifts, grace and mysteries (revelation) God has given to each of us. Each of us must fulfill our calling as stewards of what God has entrusted to us in gifts, grace and His mysteries now revealed to us. In Scripture God uses elements of nature to reveal certain aspects about His nature and His Person. We see many examples in Scripture: God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29), like the wind (John 3:8), like the river (John 7:37-39), etc. One interesting element in nature that God uses to reveal aspects of Himself is lightning. Lightning is one of the Bible's symbols of the immediate manifestation of God's glory, holiness, power, authority, judgment, revelation, victory, and supernatural activity. It communicates that heaven is breaking into the earthly realm with irresistible power. In this sermon we review the significance and comparisons of lightning when used in Scripture to speak of various aspects of God and heavenly beings. The Lightnings of God represent: God's glory, the Suddenness of His working, the Power, the Holiness, His Revelation and His deliverance. God doesn’t just have lightning; lightning issues from His presence, His throne, or His hand. He is the Source. When God acts, heaven's power is manifested with brilliance, authority, and unstoppable effect. Watch our online Sunday Church service live stream every Sunday at 10:30am (Indian Time, GMT+5:30).
