A new series: Will AI make or break a new world
2026/09/23
Artificial intelligence (AI) has exploded into our digital frontier only a few years ago and is changing the world at an unprecedented rate, raising both hopes and concerns for the future. The debate around the dangers and opportunities offered by AI is complex, and because the rate of innovation is relentless, the changes flooding the market are also unpredictable. There are fears that AI will lead to loss of jobs, increased security risks and the spread of fake news. #sbsaudiopodcastArtificial intelligence (AI) has exploded into our digital frontier only a few years ago and is changing the world at an unprecedented rate, raising both hopes and concerns for the future. The debate around the dangers and opportunities offered by AI is complex, and because the rate of innovation is relentless, the changes flooding the market are also unpredictable. There are fears that AI will lead to loss of jobs, increased security risks and the spread of fake news. Some believe we need to be more careful about who controls this powerful technology, and there is an apparent race between the US and China for domination in this space. In a new series, we'll be exploring this hotly debated topic, as we speak to various experts, chief executives and lawmakers about the dangers and opportunities offered by artificial intelligence. In this episode, we are talking to two deeply learned people who bring different perspectives to this complex conversation: Yochai Glick, who can be described as a Tech-Philosopher, and Professor Ralph Bayer, an economist from Flinders University. We discuss ethics, developments, threats and opportunities in the fast-moving world of AI.Professor Ralph Bayer is a Professor of Economics at the University of Adelaide and the Director of AdLab, the university’s laboratory for experimental economics. His research interests include behavioural and experimental economics – specifically, the decision-making processes of individuals and organisations, and the ways that incentives can be used to influence those decisions. This work has important implications for how humans interact with AI, including the impact that new technologies have on employment.Yochai Glick is originally from Israel and has been in Australia for over three and a half decades, with extensive experience across industry and utilities- energy, water, and transport. His experience includes participation in energy regulatory committees, collaboration with the CSIRO, director positions in industry associations, startups, and board advisory roles in startup accelerators. He was a Principal Solution Architect at various companies, including Ericsson. His area of passion and expertise is the relationship between technology, economics, and society, with a special focus on resource efficiency and sustainability.

Embracing motherhood - The Choice (part 2 of 3)
2026/09/11
In this episode of Embracing Motherhood we follow Kat’s path to solo parenthood. After a miscarriage in 2017 left her newly aware of her desire for a family while still single, a colleague’s advice prompted her to consider egg freezing. At 39, after years of hesitation and a failed relationship that consumed her thirties, she completed two cycles of egg freezing. The procedure lifted the weight of expectation that had shadowed her dating life. At 42, ready both emotionally and financially, she used a donor whose openness to future contact and emphasis on a child’s origins aligned with her values. The process forced her to confront complex questions around ethnicity and identity. Her son Rami, is living proof that eggs frozen in 2020 - 21 can become a baby in 2026. Kat now advocates for egg freezing as a form of a safety net, but she doesn’t fall short on crediting privilege and luck as part of her story of modern, chosen motherhood. Information about fertility, IVF and egg freezing is general in nature and may not apply to your individual circumstances. Listeners are encouraged to seek advice from their own GP, fertility specialist, or other qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about their reproductive health.
