Description

We're all just stories in the end. It's as true for the Doctor as it is for any of us. If, like me, you’ve grown up reading the Target novelisations, the Virgin New Adventures, the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures, the New Series Adventures, and a whole heap of standalone fiction, then this is the show for you. I'm joined by some of the most interesting authors, editors and podcasters and each episode is devoted to one of the hundreds of Doctor Who books that have kept the TARDIS in flight when there's no new TV series in our immediate future... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Clash of Cultures
2026/10/07
Simon Bucher-Jones might be making a very interesting point about class, here, but we generally miss any such point and instead talk about Four Corners in New Mexico, The 90's, and so on. Join us then as we dissect another Doctor Who short story. Email us at [email protected] or find me on Bluesky at @theiainmartin.bsky.social. You can usually find Ryan sleeping beneath a hedge along the A4 because he just can't handle himself, you know? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Changing Face of Doctor Who: Royal Blood by Una McCormack
2026/09/24
This month I've been reading a Doctor Who novel with Michael Mills. There's an alien artefact, a quest for the Grail, and a very fetching necklace. Fun times, then, for the Twelfth Doctor and Clara. Subscribe to The Flaneur. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Besheshra Bash
2026/09/09
It's time for another Eighth Doctor story! In one of the most egregious displays of naked hypocrisy, Iain and Ryan take offence at some childish, scatological humour while discussing Nick Walter's short story "The Besheshra Bash", which is available in Obverse Books' excellent collection Party Like It's 1998. I guess it wasn't for us, but other people will really enjoy this one. So read it and judge it for yourself. There's lots of stuff in here about poo and following through, so if you aren't up for toilet humour, maybe skip this episode? I dunno, you do you. gonna Hosted on Acast. Just War by Lance Parkin
2026/08/27
One of the very best Virgin-era Doctor Who novels comes under the microscope this episode. I'm joined by Alex Wilcock, with thoughts from Kevin at the end of this long, enthusiastic celebration of brilliance. Do me a favour: read my stuff! Hosted on Acast. Do I Have To Do This All Over Again? by Jonathan Blum
2026/08/12
Iain and Ryan get poitical with this Eighth Doctor story that is literally ripped from today's headlines. Well, not literally. At least I assume not. I don't know how Blum operates... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Changing Face of Doctor Who: The Ambassadors of Death by Terrance Dicks
2026/07/29
Myself and Harry try, but largely fail, to find anything new to say about uncle Terrance's excellent novelisation of The Ambassadors of Death. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Knocky Nine Doors
2026/07/15
What childishness is this? Iain and Ryan bang on your door then run away giggling. Also there's a discussion of the lovely Ian Hayles' short story Knocky Nine Doors from Obverse Books' Party Like it's 1998. Why not buy a copy, for a very good cause. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Interference Book II: The Hour of the Geek by Lawrence Miles
2026/06/25
A bit of an important one, this one. Brace yourselves, because nothing will be the same after this EDA... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
5 Pointed Star
2026/06/10
Iain is joined once again by Ryan Blake to probe into a 5 pointed star. OH BEHAVE. This is another short story from the 8th Doctor anthology Party Like It's 1998 from Obverse Books. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Changing Face of Doctor Who: The Twin Dilemma by Eric Saward
2026/05/27
Iain and Mikey try but fail to stay on-topic as we sit down to discuss the novelisation of the Sixth Doctor's debut adventure. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Ghost
2026/05/13
Iain is joined by Professor Ramoses Discharge to discuss Party Like It's 1998 by Obverse Books. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Interference Book I: Shock Tactic by Lawrence Miles
2026/04/29
Coming to you live from a Saudi gaol, Iain and Mark get to grips with Interference. Part I of II. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The High Council: Noel Edmonds
2026/04/21
One last journey into the doobie-dimension with Kevin Stoner and Amy Pot. This time, the brief is very simple: a quick discussion of 1993's Children in Need Doctor Who/Eastenders 3D crossover Dimensions in Time. Easy. And we don't do too badly, all things considered. To a level. If you're not expecting very much. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The High Council: A Snail Is a Mollusc
2026/04/20
A risible attempt at recording an audio commentary for the 2012 Christmas episode The Snowmen... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The High Council: Tori Lollobrigida
2026/04/20
Back again! Here we are trying our damnedest to review Time and Relative by Kim Newman, with a global premiere for the new single 'Where Is My Mind (Probe)?' by Lady Dodo. Not big, not clever, not safe for work. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
