What does a successful homeschool day ACTUALLY look like? | 167
2026/09/29
What does a successful homeschool day actually look like? If you’ve ever ended the day wondering, “Did we do enough?” or “Am I failing my kids?” this episode of The Homeschool Well is for you. A successful homeschool doesn’t have to mean six hours of schoolwork, a perfectly organized homeschool schedule, or finishing every page in your curriculum. One of the greatest benefits of homeschooling is the freedom to create a homeschool rhythm that works for your unique family. In this episode, we share practical homeschool encouragement and four simple ways to rethink what makes a homeschool day successful. We’re talking about: • What really makes a homeschool day successful • Letting go of the pressure to “do enough” • Rethinking how you measure homeschool progress • Finding a homeschool rhythm that works for your family   Instead of measuring your homeschool by how many hours you completed, consider what really matters: Is your child learning? Are important academic and life skills progressing? Are you having meaningful conversations? Are you learning how to work together as a family? You don’t need to recreate traditional school at home to give your child an excellent education. Homeschooling allows you to slow down when your child needs help, follow teachable moments, build relationships, and create an education that fits the child God has given you. The big takeaway: You don’t need to measure your homeschool by how much you completed. Look at how much you and your child are growing and learning together. We pray this episode blesses you!❤️❤️ Kim and Jenny   ✨Last Chance! Exact Path Special Ends September 30! You’ll learn how to simplify your homeschool routine, adjust an unrealistic curriculum schedule, focus on mastery instead of busywork, and identify possible learning gaps. We discuss: • The difference between curriculum pacing and academic progress • How to reconnect with your family’s reason for homeschooling • Signs that you may be trying to do too much • Why you don’t need to complete every curriculum activity • When it is okay to skip lessons or shorten assignments • How to recognize foundational learning gaps • When to seek tutoring, diagnostic testing, or additional support • How to create a peaceful homeschool rhythm without sacrificing learning You do not have to let a curriculum calendar control your homeschool. That can feel downright overwhelming. But you do not need to teach a completely separate homeschool day to every child in your house. In this episode, we're sharing practical ways to homeschool multiple children without burning yourself out—including what subjects you can combine, which ones may need individual attention, and how to keep your other children learning while you're working one-on-one with a sibling. We talk about: How to combine subjects like science, history, Bible, nature study, read-alouds, and music Using journals to let multiple ages learn the same topic at their own level When to individualize reading and math How to create independent learning time for younger children Busy boxes, manipulatives, audiobooks, educational apps, and other tools that actually help Using timers and checklists to reduce interruptions Teaching children the habits they need to work independently Why learning gaps are normal—and why you don't have to teach everything Letting go of the pressure to create the "perfect" homeschool for every child Most importantly, we talk about taking some of that pressure off yourself. You don't have to perfectly meet every need, every day, for every child. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what matters most for your children and your family in this season. “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought...” — Romans 8:26 Whether you're homeschooling two kids or a whole houseful, we hope this episode gives you practical ideas—and permission to simplify. 🎧 Listen in and learn how to make homeschooling multiple ages work for your family. After years of homeschooling our own kids—and working with hundreds of homeschool families—we’ve learned a lot about choosing homeschool curriculum, what’s actually worth buying, and what matters much more than finding the “perfect” program. In this episode, we’re looking back at our own homeschool years and sharing what we would buy, skip, and prioritize if we were new homeschool moms today. We’re talking about the homeschool curriculum choices and resources we’d approach differently, where we’d spend our time and money, and what we wish we had prioritized from the very beginning. In this episode, we’re talking about: What we wish we’d known before choosing homeschool curriculum The homeschool resources and purchases we’d rethink if we were starting over Where we’d spend our homeschool time and money differently What we’ve learned about reading, math, and learning gaps Why more homeschool curriculum isn’t always the answer What we’d prioritize much earlier in our homeschool journey What helped us become more confident homeschool moms Whether you’re a new homeschool mom, choosing homeschool curriculum for the year, considering homeschool testing or assessments, or wondering if your current curriculum is really working, this episode will help you think differently about what deserves your time, money, and energy—and what might not matter nearly as much as you think. We pray this blesses you! Kim and Jenny❤️❤️
Stressed about writing? How to choose the best writing curriculum for your homeschool | 161
2026/08/18
Choosing a homeschool writing curriculum can feel surprisingly overwhelming. How much writing should your child be doing? When should you teach grammar? When are kids ready for essays? And what do you do when your child absolutely hates writing? In this episode of The Homeschool Well Podcast, we’re continuing our How to Choose Homeschool Curriculum series with one of the subjects homeschool parents often feel least confident teaching: writing. Writing develops a bit differently than reading and math, and your child's progress may not look anything like another child's. Before you buy curriculum—or worry that your child is behind—it helps to understand what writing development can actually look like. In this episode, we’re talking about: -What writing development can look like at different ages and stages -How to know when your child is ready for more formal writing instruction -Where handwriting, grammar, and other writing skills fit into the bigger picture -Why some children struggle with or resist writing -What to look for when choosing a homeschool writing program -How to support a reluctant or struggling writer -Why modifying a writing curriculum can sometimes be exactly what your child needs -How to stop comparing your child's writing to what other kids are doing We’ll also share practical ideas from our years as teachers, homeschool moms, and tutors to help you approach teaching writing at home with more confidence. Because the goal isn't to create a perfect writer overnight. It's to help your child steadily develop their own voice, creativity, confidence, and ability to communicate. We pray this episode blesses you! Kim and Jenny❤️❤️   👯‍♀️Need More Homeschool Support? Choosing math homeschool curriculum without the guesswork! | 160
2026/08/11
Math can be one of the biggest confidence-killers in homeschooling—for our kids and for us homeschool moms. 😅 And with so many math programs to choose from, it can be hard to know which one is actually right for your child. Choosing the right math curriculum starts with understanding your child—not just their grade level. This week, we continue our August curriculum series with how to choose a math curriculum that actually fits your child. We’ll talk about why understanding your child’s math strengths, skill gaps, and learning needs matters when choosing a curriculum. Then, in our Member-Exclusive Power Podcast, we get practical (and vulnerable!) about our own math struggles and share six things we wish we had known—including mastery vs. spiral math, placement testing, remediation, conceptual understanding, and knowing when it’s time to simply stop for the day. Most importantly: slowing down doesn’t mean your child is falling behind. Sometimes it’s exactly what they need to build a stronger, more solid foundation. We pray this blesses you! Kim and Jenny❤️❤️ 🎧 Join The Homeschool Well community at thehomeschoolwell.com to hear the full Member-Exclusive Power Podcast and get real support for your homeschool journey.

What your child's test scores are really telling you |157
2026/07/21
Have you ever looked at your child's test scores and thought... "Should I be worried?" "Is this just a learning gap...or could it be something more?" If so, homeschool mom, you're not alone. Many homeschool parents receive assessment results that leave them with more questions than answers. It's easy to swing to one extreme—either ignoring concerning scores or assuming a diagnosis based on one test. In this episode, we explain why neither response is helpful and how to confidently use test scores as a tool to better understand your child's unique learning needs. You'll learn how to interpret your child's test scores without fear, recognize patterns that deserve a closer look, and determine practical next steps when results raise questions. In this episode, we discuss: ✔️ What homeschool testing can—and can't—tell you about your child's learning ✔️ When it may be appropriate to pursue additional homeschool evaluations such as achievement testing, dyslexia screening, psychoeducational testing, or vision and hearing screenings ✔️ How to replace fear and uncertainty with confidence and a practical plan   One of our favorite reminders from this episode is this: The goal isn't to collect test scores. The goal is to understand your child. When we understand how our children learn, we can make wise decisions about curriculum, interventions, and support—without panic or guesswork.   Scripture Encouragement John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you... Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."   If test results have you feeling anxious, remember that God has already gone before you. Test scores are simply one piece of information. They don't define your child, and they certainly don't determine their future. Be encouraged! Kim and Jenny❤️❤️ 👯‍♀️Need Help Understanding Your Child's Test Scores?
