Episode Fifty-Six: La Llorona the Woman in White - HALLOWEEN Spooktober Urban Legends👰‍♀️💀
2026/10/29
CW for mentions of child death and postpartum mental health issues PLEASE LIKE/RATE/SUSRCIBE OR WE'LL CRY OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE. It finally happened - we met in person! This is our 5th Halloween episode and the first episode we have EVER recorded in the same room. Strap in for a momentous occasion as we chat about meeting IRL after almost 20 years of online friendship, then do what we do best: chat folklore! This episode continues our Spooktober Urban Legend theme with another iconic lady - The Woman in White. From gothic tragedy to creepy hitchhiker, we track her all around the world before landing in Mexico for her most iconic form: La Llorona. Mexico's Weeping Woman has been terrorising children for generations, but we think there are deeper commentaries on women and motherhood at play. Dead Air: A Creators Collective Audio Anthology - Part 2
2026/10/28
It's heeere! This is the concluding part of our Halloween Anthology, featuring a story by us - DEAD last! It was a great excuse to research into the spooky history of the Hellfire Club and for Niamh to lend her voice to the story. Please be sure to check out the other pods on the list and once again, thanks to the CC for having us! 👻👻👻👻👻 Welcome back, When we last left off, our hosts were in a perilous position, coming to you from an abandoned radio station with a Halloween broadcast that had gone awry. Forced to continue the show (and continue enduring some seriously unsettling tales recorded by their friends in the Collective), the entity on the phone has not only started to make those stories a reality, but It has now begun to learn who they are.. All hopes of escaping alive are starting to seem lost after Brandon fails to make a break for it...but will a ghostly host, back from the past, be the one to save this group and end this curse once and for all? Or will things only continue to get worse for our five podcasters from here? It’s time to keep the broadcast going, are you ready to tune back in? Pine Cones: 🪞 Mirror Folklore | Rowan & Pine Shorts
2026/10/23
Long before they were everyday fixtures, mirrors were viewed not as simple reflective glass, but as windows into the unseen. In medieval Europe, the practice of catoptromancy (divination using reflections) was closely tied to witchcraft and the belief that a mirror reveals the future rather than the present. Ancient traditions said that a mirror reflected a person's very soul: a distorted image signalled a corrupted spirit, while soulless entities like vampires cast no reflection at all... Dead Air: A Creators Collective Audio Anthology - Part 1
2026/10/21
HAPPY SPOOKY SEASON, WITCHES! Niamh got to try out some voice acting for this very special horror anthology with our pals at Creators Collective as one of the Five Doomed Hosts trapped in an abandoned radio station. Our story contribution will show up in Part 2, but you need to get the lore before that. Be sure to check out the pods in the LinkTree below and don't say we never do anything nice for ya! 👻👻👻👻👻 Welcome, Tonight we come to you from an abandoned radio station for a very special Halloween two-part series to broadcast some of the scariest stories, urban legends and real events live on air. Five friends have broken in with the plan to create something spectacularly and unforgettably spooky but their night is about to take a twisted turn when something sinister that was lurking within the confines of the building begins to take the forms of the stories they tell… They are only given one rule - Don’t stop the broadcast if you want to get out alive. Will they finish their show? Will they figure out what’s causing all of this? Will they make it through the terrifying stories recorded by their friends in the Collective unscathed? There’s only one way to find out and that is to tune in with them… Credits: We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in the making of this episode. 2026/09/18
During the Edo period, tales of mysterious yokai prophesying danger began to sweep across Japan. First came the Amabiko, a three-legged monkey-like spirit predicting hard times. Later, off the coast of Higo, stories spread of the Amabie, a strange, glittering creature with three legs, long flowing hair, a bird’s beak, and mermaid scales, surfacing to warn humanity of an impending epidemic. Over the centuries, the names and shapes shifted, but the core legend remained: a visitor from the deep foretelling doom. While most of these creatures faded into myth, one legend never truly died... PLEASE LIKE/COMMENT/SUBSCRIBE or we'll take the wind out of your sails. Seatember is back! And so is Emily! This time we set sail to Japan where we take a quick port stop in Japanese maritime folklore with sea dragons, whale cults and giant ocean monks (don't ask) before getting into the strange yet downright chilling folklore of the Funayūrei. These ships full of drowned sailors want one thing: to add to their crew by any means necessary (including using ladles to sink your ship). Pine Cones: The Zodiac | Rowan & Pine Shorts
2026/08/28
A tiny plaque, carved from mammoth ivory was dated to around 30,000 BCE. On its surface, a human figure stands in a pose that some researchers believe represents the constellation Orion. Deep within caves from that same era, paintings depict other familiar celestial forms, like Taurus, occupying the ancient sky then just as they do now. While it is nearly impossible to trace the exact moment our ancestors first looked up and traced these glowing patterns of light, astrology grew directly out of their deep desire to understand the universe and read the will of the gods. Across the globe, early human cultures interpreted the sky through their own unique lenses - tying starry shapes to local flora and fauna, weaving them into existing folk legends, or building brand new myths around the shapes they saw. 2026/08/12
PLEASE LIKE/COMMENT/SUBSCRIBE or 🫵 WIIIIITCH This is the second of our Feminist History of Astrology with Niamh's bestie Megan. We recap the ancient astrology covered in Part 1 before getting into where it all went south, starting with the moral panic of the Witchcraft laws in Elizabethan England which led to the infamous Witch Trials, the discreditation of Astrology into a fringe pseudoscience practiced by the lower echelons of society, and right through to how it became reputedly the pasttime of bored houswives and gullible women and LGBTQIA+ people. We then navigate the sience behind both why people connect to astrology and the misconceptions held by the scientists who seek to discredit it.
