Ep. 124 "Messy Mourning": Child Loss, Suicide & Faith with Jackie Baker
2026/10/07
Send us Fan Mail
If you've lost a child to suicide, you may know the silence that follows, when the people around you don't know what to say or do. In this conversation, Jackie Baker and I talk about the loss of her son Sebastian, and about what it means to grieve honestly and messily while holding on to faith.
Jackie is a nurse practitioner, a bereaved mom, and the author of Messy Mourning, a faith-forward companion for mothers grieving the loss of a child to suicide. She shares Sebastian's story: a brilliant, competitive, well-read young man who, like every child lost to suicide, is so much more than a statistic. Together we talk about the guilt and the "what ifs," the stigma that still follows suicide loss, and how faith can hold you when everything feels dark. I'm honoured that Jackie trusted me with her story. Her hope and honesty may help anyone who has lost a child to suicide feel a little less alone.
Key points we discuss:
•💛 Why suicide loss can feel so isolating. Jackie and I talk about the silence that often follows, when the people around you don't know what to say, and how "acceptable" explanations for a death can make honest grief harder.
•💛 Loving an adult child through their struggles. Jackie shares how she supported Sebastian while holding healthy boundaries, and how hard it is to do both at once.
•💛 Guilt, anger, and the "what ifs." We both share the last conversations we had with our children, and how we've come to accept that we cannot control another person's choices.
•💛 More than a statistic. Sebastian was brilliant, curious, competitive, and deeply loved. Jackie reminds us that every child lost to suicide is far more than the way they died.
•💛 Where the stigma comes from. Drawing on her Master's in Biblical Studies, Jackie explains how suicide has been viewed in the church over the centuries and why that thinking is slowly changing.
•💛 How faith and community carried her. Jackie describes how scripture, prayer, and a church family held her up, and how her belief that Sebastian is healed and whole gives her comfort.
•💛 Why healing is not betrayal. You never forget your child, and you can live and laugh again without guilt.
•💛 Patience with the process. Complicated grief after suicide is often not linear and can take five to seven years or more. Please don't stop showing up for someone after the first year.
•💛 Where to find support. Jackie points to grief groups like GriefShare and to the resources on her website and encourages us to build a village rather than grieve alone.
About Jackie:
Jackie M. Baker holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Washington and a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. She is the author of Messy Mourning and co-founded a free healthcare clinic for the underserved. She leads a grief group and offers suicide grief resources on her website.

Ep. 122 “I Am Not Mormon": A Story of Grief, Control & Breaking Free
2026/08/26
Send us Fan Mail
"I am not Mormon." That's what Audra Phelps told herself in the mirror the night she left the LDS Church — after 10 years of quiet doubt and one policy she couldn't "unhear.
Audra Phelps, founder of Mama Audra and creator of the Reclaimed Program, joins me to share her journey out of a high-control religion: the rigid roles assigned to women, the purity culture and shame around her body, and the pressure to be "an example" from childhood. She opens up about the anxiety and depression that came from living a life that wasn't her own, the grief of losing family and community after leaving, and how she now helps other ex-Mormon moms rebuild their identity using NLP, hypnotherapy, and neuroscience-based coaching.
Topics covered:
Growing up inside a high-control religionHow the LDS Church structures women's roles around marriage and motherhoodPurity culture and body shame from childhoodThe breaking point that led Audra to leave at age 35Grieving family, community, and her former selfUsing NLP and subconscious belief work to rebuild identityThis episode was shaped for more than one audience. If you've left the LDS Church, or if you've ever handed your power over to a belief system, a relationship, or an expectation that was never really yours — this episode is for you.

Ep. 121 Your Birth Chart Wrote Your Life - How Astrology & Hypnosis Can Decode Who You Really Are ✨🔮
2026/08/12
Send us Fan Mail
What if the patterns you keep repeating in relationships, career, and self-talk were already mapped out before you took your first breath? 🌬️
In this episode of Grief Talk, I sit down with Marvin Wilkerson, spiritual coach, hypnotherapist, and author of Soul Fusion Healing: Integrating Mind, Body, and Soul, for a conversation on what it really means to heal from the inside out. With 50 years of experience blending humanistic astrology, hypnotherapy, and NLP, Marvin offers a grounded take on spirituality, focussed less on predicting your next big break and more on understanding why you experience life the way you do.
The conversation moves through some of the biggest questions people ask: Do we actually have free will? Why do we keep repeating painful patterns even when we know better? What is "soul fragmentation," 🌀 and how does it show up as anxiety, self-sabotage, or chronic fatigue? Marvin doesn't offer easy answers. He offers a framework for taking responsibility, adjusting how we relate to our own energy, and learning to live event to event, moment to moment. We also touch on how this kind of soul-level work can support those navigating grief and loss.
If you're curious about astrology, drawn to the subconscious mind, or simply looking for a new lens on why you are the way you are, this episode is an invitation to get curious about your own path, and offers the tools to help you start making the changes you've been wanting to make in your life. 🔎
In this episode learn:
🔮 Why Marvin sees astrology as therapeutic, not predictive.
🧠 How hypnosis and NLP access the subconscious mind and is where the real healing happens.
🌀 What soul fragmentation is and how it quietly shapes your daily life.
🕊️ The truth about "free will" and what's actually within your control.
💬 Why self-talk is one of the most powerful (and damaging) tools we have.
🌱 How to start living in alignment with your soul's purpose, one event at a time.
If this episode resonates with you and you are navigating grief or loss, or want to expand your thinking, know that support is available. I host the Grief Talk podcast to help you feel less alone on the path toward healing and personal growth. 💛

Ep. 120 Your Brain Can Heal You: Hypnosis & Revolutionary NLP Techniques to Clear Negative Emotions Permanently💡(I tried it live and it works!)
2026/06/10
Send us Fan Mail
What if your brain already holds everything you need to heal? In this eye-opening and powerful conversation, I sit down with the remarkable Dr. Yvonne Oswald, international keynote speaker, Master Trainer of NLP and Hypnosis, and the author of Every Word Has Power - translated into 11 languages - to learn how NLP and hypnosis can help us clear negative emotions at their root and clear them in minutes, not years.⏱️
The secret to her global impact? Dr. Yvonne’s approach to healing has been called revolutionary, refreshingly practical, and astonishingly fast. She doesn’t teach people how to cope with emotions. She teaches them how to clear emotions permanently.
Drawing from her latest book No More Therapists: Your Brain Has the Answer - Clear Negative Emotions in Minutes Not Years, Dr. Yvonne walks us through her 9 Rapid Release Codes™ - precise neurological techniques designed to return you to calm, clear thinking fast. I actually tried one live during this episode, and it genuinely works! We also unravel the power of Mind Magic – her award-winning technique for clearing negative emotions and the limiting beliefs we all have that shape our daily lives and quietly form before we’re 7 years old.👶
As a bereaved mom since 2005, this conversation touched me in ways I didn't expect. And as a bereaved mom herself – having lost her only child and daughter needlessly at just 22-years old, Dr. Yvonne speaks from a place of profound personal understanding. In fact, it was that catastrophic loss that compelled her to write this book and bring her revolutionary work to as many people as possible.
Together in this episode we explore - and demonstrate - how these techniques work in real time. And while Dr. Yvonne is clear that negative emotions will always show up (they make up 80% of our thoughts, 90% of our day), we absolutely can reduce how frequently they appear, how hard they hit, and how long they linger.
🗝️ Key points discussed:
• What the 9 Rapid Release Codes™ are and how they work neurologically
• How Mind Magic™ clears limiting beliefs formed before age 7
• Why 80% of our thoughts are negative — and what to do about it
• Live demo: trying a Rapid Release Code in real time
• Dr. Yvonne's personal grief journey and how it shaped her work
• The difference between coping with emotions vs. clearing them permanently

Ep. 119 🌸 Forgotten Grief: Breaking the Silence on Sibling Loss 🕊️
2026/05/27
Send us Fan Mail
💔 In the United States alone, nearly 62,000 children and adolescents lose a sibling every year. Yet sibling grief remains one of the most overlooked and unacknowledged forms of loss, despite being one of our most significant and enduring relationships. Too often, the grief of a bereaved sibling is overshadowed by the attention given to parents and spouses, leaving siblings feeling invisible in their pain. In this episode, my guest Maribeth Swan and I open up a conversation that is real, raw, and long overdue.
Maribeth knows grief from the inside out. In 2000, she lost her younger brother to suicide at the age of 25 — a fraternal twin to her surviving brother, and a loss that cracked her world open and led her toward a deeper connection with death and loved ones beyond the veil.🕊️ A debilitating accident in 2018 further changed her path and drew her into the healing world of flower essences.🌸 Today, as a Flower Essence Practitioner and Intuitive Counselor, Maribeth is dedicated to helping others navigate loss and develop a more reverent relationship with Nature, bringing them closer to their own true Essence and healing.
In this episode, we get real about sibling grief and the silence that can be just as painful as the loss itself. Topics include:
•Why sibling grief is one of the most overlooked and unacknowledged forms of loss
•The unique and lifelong bond between siblings and why its loss hits differently
•How loss reshapes family dynamics and the challenges that follow
•Afterlife communication, signs from loved ones, and the comfort of mediumship
•The role of spiritual practices and nature in finding peace and healing
•Why talking openly about death and grief matters more than most of us realize
•How Flower Essences can support emotional healing during grief
•The importance of community and support in navigating the long road through loss
Based in Massachusetts, Maribeth alchemizes her own essences, writes a monthly New Moon newsletter 🌙, composes music on her dulcimer, and is endlessly passionate about the wisdom of plants.
Whether you are a bereaved sibling yourself or someone who loves one, this conversation is for you. Sibling grief deserves to be seen, heard, and honoured and that starts with breaking the silence together. 👨👩👧👦

What does grief look like when it doesn't fit the mold? When the casseroles stop arriving? When the world expects you to move on and you’re not ready?
In this heartfelt episode, author and poet Jackie L. Disch shares the story behind her memoir Losing Katy, guiding us through the deeply personal and non-linear journey of losing her wife Katy, to sudden strokes during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jackie's story also offers a perspective into is something so many of us carry quietly: when we don't see ourselves reflected in the mainstream conversation around loss.
From honouring Katy’s end-of-life wishes to finding unexpected comfort in life's smallest moments, Jackie's experience invites us to rethink the way we understand and support everyone in their grief. In our conversation, we explore the healing power of writing, the signs of connection that transcend loss, and why open conversations about death may be one of the greatest gifts we can give to the people we love.

What happens when your consciousness leaves your body and everything you thought you were dissolves?
In this profound episode, Allura Halliwell, creator of The Consciousness Method™ transformational guide and author, shares her life-altering awakening experience that began during a meditation in 2018 - felt like a quantum leap in consciousness that led to a complete unravelling of her identity. What followed was a three-year integration process that challenged everything she knew about reality, Self, and transformed her into a voice of consciousness. Today, Allura helps countless others tap into the portal of awakeningthrough The Consciousness Method™ and chart their own journey from wounded to wholeness on the path home to Source.
In this episode, we explore the deeper meaning of awakening and how pain is not something to escape, but a portal to Source. We dive into self-responsibility, rewiring relationships, and the radical transformation that occurs when you stop resisting your pain and embrace it as your pathway home.

Ep. 116 Suspend Your Doubt: Why the Law of Attraction Isn’t Working (And What Actually Will)
2026/04/08
Send us Fan Mail
What if success isn’t the problem but the way you’ve been taught to chase it is?
In this episode, I sit down with Randy Lyman, physicist, entrepreneur, emotional intelligence expert and author, who shares how he reached high levels of success but still wasn't happy. This conversation flips the script on what abundance really means and why external wins don’t always translate into internal peace and contentment.
Here’s the shift: if you want a life that actually feels good, it has to start from within. In our discussion, Randy invites you to suspend your doubt by looking at the Law of Attraction differently. It’s not just about positive thinking. It actually responds to how you feel. When your emotions are unhealed, you will keep attracting the same patterns. But when you start doing the inner work, things will begin to change in a real, grounded way.
Put simply: Randy says your thoughts and actions won’t create lasting change. But feeling differently will! Your emotions are the driving force behind what you attract. So, if life isn’t shifting for you, it’s not about trying harder, but about healing deeper.
Drawing from his book The Third Element, Randy explains how the inner child holds onto unresolved pain that shapes your emotional patterns, reactions, and results. When you start healing that, everything changes. And this is where the the Law of Attraction stops feeling like a concept and starts responding to your positive energy in a magical way, helping you create the abundance and happiness you want that actually will last!
Stop chasing success that looks good and start creating a life that actually feels good. This episode will challenge everything you’ve been taught about achievement, happiness, and the Law of Attraction. If you’re ready to break the cycle and experience real, lasting change from within.
