In memory of Aberfan
2026/10/18
We haven't posted in a while, but we worked on this piece a couple of years ago. The Aberfan disaster was a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip that engulfed a Welsh village school and houses on October 21, 1966, killing 144 people, including 116 children. My grandfather was one of the rescuers; something in him changed that day, and he never spoke of it. As it is the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster on 21st October 2026, we felt it belonged here, in memory of all those who lost their lives in that tragedy.  Written, edited and soundscaped by Bethan Briggs-Miller Narrated by Owen Staton More information on the anniversary here: https://www.merthyr.gov.uk/news-and-events/latest-news/aberfan-60-the-days-after/
