House of the Dragon just killed off two major players — Chanel , Brandon and Sharmane recap the brutal "Butcher's Work" and the death nobody saw coming. 🐉Welcome back to We Was Watching, the podcast where we break down the shows everyone's talking about. This week we're recapping House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 6, "Butcher's Work" — the HBO Max episode that opens on a slaughter and ends on one of the biggest departures from the books yet.We get into ALL of it: the Butcher's Ball and the muted, inglorious death of Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel), Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) crumbling reputation as Ormund Hightower astroturfs anti-Targaryen sentiment across King's Landing, Daemon going undercover and humiliating Ulf the White, the discontent brewing among the dragonseeds, Rhaenyra's failed attempt to assassinate Ormund, and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) being sent to Harrenhal. Then there's the shocking finale: the assassination of Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Snake — a massive change from George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. We break down what works, what doesn't, and why this might be the episode that sparked GRRM's break with the show. House of the Dragon ends on its most brutal image yet — Chanel, Sharmane and Brandon recap an episode where the walls literally close in. 🐉Welcome back to We Was Watching, the podcast where we break down the shows everyone's talking about. This week we're recapping House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 5 — the HBO Max episode where Criston Cole's death wish, Ormund's coin scheme, and Rhaenyra's paranoia all start closing in.We get into ALL of it: the riverlords and Winter Wolves stalled at the Blackwater after Cole and Gwayne Hightower burn the bridge, Aemond convalescing at Harrenhal under Alys Rivers' care, Alicent smuggling moon tea and the reveal that Helaena is pregnant, Aegon's fake-out redemption at Rook's Rest (spoiler: the jerkface version is back), Ormund Hightower putting Daeron's face on a coin and declaring him king, and Daemon and Luthor Largent hunting whoever's butchering the City Watch. Plus Rhaenyra's growing conviction that it's all connected — and that horrifying final tableau in the Gold Cloaks' barracks. And is Sunfyre actually dead? We break it all down against George R.R.
