Advertise on podcast: Broadway Block: a podcast about the New York Rangers

After one of the worst seasons in my 24 years of being a fan of the New York Rangers, the team goes through the offseason with grace and seems to have come out on the other side in better shape. Starting the year right where they left off, they were shutout in their opener but since that loss to the Bruins, the Rangers are 4-0 to start the month of October undefeated, and have gained a lot of momentum into this young season. Speaking of young, with the addition of Cole Beaudoin, the Rangers are now the youngest team in the NHL while boating the best record in league standings. After all we went through recently, Rangers fans deserve to look forward to watching a fun game. Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! When it comes to home openers, I don't think you could have made a better statement win than the Rangers did last night. Highlighted hugely by a goal from Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers absolutely dominated that game from start to finish. They did take a handful of untimely penalties, but they worked hard to get back to even strength and never allowed the game to slip away from them. The home crowd was a huge factor, and probably the loudest I've heard that building since they were playing in the deep rounds of the playoffs.  Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! After a long offseason, we finally have some games to go over. We jump into the first two preseason games of the season, as we take a closer look at the 5th overall pick from this year's draft Alberts Smits, and his impact in his first moments as a Ranger.  Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! The NHL preseason is right around the corner, and today we finally got a taste of training camp rosters and footage from the action. It felt like it was dragging along, but in just a few short days we'll be able to watch a game. In today's episode, we talk over some of the last minute moves from around the league, pay our thanks to Ryan Reaves who announced his retirement earlier this week, and of course snap takeaways from this afternoon's lineups in training camp. In a somewhat surprising last minute offseason addition, the Rangers went out and signed unrestricted free agent Eeli Tolvanen to a 1 year deal to round out what I would consider to be a great offseason. Tolvanen is a former first round pick who has eclipsed 20 goals before, is tough on the puck, and plays a physical brand of hockey. I think the signing will be good for the Rangers if they can get the most out of him and is certainly a low-risk move. As we get closer and closer to the season starting, it's starting to feel like this team has a real opportunity to improve their poor results from last year.  Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! In what has felt like a particularly long yet eventful offseason, it finally feels like the start of a new year is right around the corner for the New York Rangers. With less than a month separating us from the drop of the preseason puck, we chat in this episode about some of the players to watch as the lines fledge themselves out. We also chat about the difference player like Dorofeyev can be expecting to bring as the replacement to Panarin's slot in the lineup, and chat over guys like Lafreniere, Perreault, and Zibanejad who look to continue their magic as the presumed top line to start the season.  Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! As we inch closer to the start of a fresh NHL season for the New York Rangers, we dive into what possible X-factors do the Rangers have? Who is on the hot seat this season? How much is riding on JT Miller's play and has Chris Drury done enough for this team to consider them a playoff team? With not much going on in New York Rangers world we recap as a whole the metropolitan division and how the teams around us have improved this offseason. Are the moves the Rangers made enough to have a difference this year, or does the team have a similar result as last season? In this episode we touch on Pavel Dorofeyev, Chris Drury, and Mike Sullivan. Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! Fresh off recording an episode with Locked on Rangers, we delve further into the hot button topics of conversation this off season so far. We share our thoughts on Pavel Dorofeyev as we start to have an idea of what the top lines could look like. We speculate on the 3rd and 4th lines and give our best ideas as far as what they might look like. We also zoom in on the glut of defenseman the roster currently has, with guys like Vaakanainen and more recent top picks like Fortescue and Smits currently on the outside looking in. Come deadline, I would expect the team moves on from a Schneider, Vaakanainen, or Robertson to make headway for the laundry list of defense currently not on the roster, with Morrow representing a piece I'd also be comfortable moving on from. All that and more in this week's episode as we eagerly count down the day until opening night! Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! On this week's episode, we talk about potential lineup configurations as I believe we are looking at what is more than likely the finished roster. We specifically zoom in on the presumed second defensive pairing of Marcus Pettersson and Sean Durzi, both acquired on free agent day this offseason. We also chat about newly appointed roles within the organization, with Jonathan Quick accepting a role as director of goaltending development, and Rangers fan-favorite Derick Brassard rejoining the team as assistant director of player development.  Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! If I had to guess, I would say the offseason moves are about 95% of the way there with Braden Schneider officially minting his new contract. We spend a decent amount of the show discussing the deal and how it changes thing for both player and team. I don't think 5.6m AAV is too far off, but I think most people expected to see longer term. Does the one year bridge deal provide an opportunity to see what you have in the former first round pick, or does the short contract show a more telling window into Schneider's future with the Rangers? There was so much to talk about last week that we almost had to do a part two. In this week's episode, we do a deeper dive in to all the moves so far of the offseason. With most of the pieces in, and also factoring the subtraction to the lineup, it feels safe enough to begin to piece together the lineup puzzle. With additions like Dorofeyev, and Durzi, and notable trades of Edstom and Trocheck, did Chris Drury do enough to rectify the roster to turn the ship around for a more promising season? The New York Rangers had themselves an extremely busy weekend to kick off the offseason, and have reignited our hopes in potentially reaching the playoffs, and at the very least improving the result from last season. The draft started out with the selection of Alberts Smits, and a huge trade involving two first round picks for Pavel Dorofeyev, an elite scoring winger from Vegas. Then Drury came out with a flurry of moves to open up July 1st free agency, completely overhauling the defense as well as depth on the forward roster, plus a backup goalie. Is it enough to keep up with a steadily improving Metropolitan Division?  Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription! The NHL Draft is finally here, and the week leading up to it has been nothing short of exciting. With a pretty bleak unrestricted free agency pool leading into this offseason, there seems to have been a large emphasis from GMs around the league to look at trades as a way of improving their teams. If you're unwilling to wait on prospects, and there's nobody to sign, the only way to stay competitive is to offer a boatload of assets. In what has been the biggest seller's market we've seen in recent memory, do the Rangers join in on the action? And if they do, are they the sellers or the buyers? The '25-'26 season is officially over, and I can say for a lot of Rangers fans out there that this one is definitely one I'd like to forget soon. Despite a division rival winning the cup, a recently traded Ranger hoisting said cup, and moving down in the draft lotto despite having the 3rd worst record all season, the year was one of the more frustrating seasons we've had to suffer through recently. As it draws to a close, we make the "bearish and bullish" case for the Rangers going into next season, touch on the landscape league-wide, and indulge a little on our hometown Knicks getting to the promised land. Does this spark change from ownership? Or is James Dolan too overcome with joy to remember the red white and blue stepchild?   Today's episode is sponsored by BetterHelp - use the link below to save on your first subscription!
