As quickly as the Wild Card round began, it has already ended the season for three teams. With the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox all taking care of business in the first two games, there’s only one best-of-three series left, and it will decide who takes on the defending back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The regular season has concluded, and it is time to shift our focus to the 2026 MLB playoffs. However, first we must dive into the Wild Card round, which begins on Tuesday. With divisional foes facing off against each other, as well as past playoff rematches, the best-of-three series are going to be a doozy. The final weekend of the regular season is upon us, and the postseason picture is just about set. However, there are still a couple of moving pieces that need to be determined before we can officially set sail onto the best time of the year. With the NL Wild Card, AL Central and AL West all up for grabs, we’re in for an exciting regular-season finale across the league. As the 2026 MLB regular season enters its final week of games, there is still so much that needs to be decided before the postseason can officially begin. Pete Alonso returned to his old digs on Monday night in Queens, greeted by New York Mets fans giving a rousing ovation to show their appreciation for his time with the team. On Tuesday night, though, he paid it back to the fans by hitting his 300th career home run in the top of the ninth to tie the game. And the fans continued to cheer. Aaron Judge hasn’t played a game for the New York Yankees since the final day of May. The American League this season hasn’t had a completely impressive showing from a wins perspective. The Atlanta Braves completed a sweep of the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers at Truist Park on Thursday night. The game featured a matchup between Chris Sale and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and while the latter threw a great game, it was the 2024 NL Cy Young Award winner who stood out with a complete-game shutout. The San Diego Padres have been a franchise since 1969, and while they’ve won two National League pennants, the ever-elusive World Series championship still eludes them. However, on Monday, there was a renewed sense of optimism and commitment to the team when the baseball world was introduced to the team’s new owners, who hope to finally end the club’s 57-year drought. As the baseball world enters the final month of the regular season, teams are all ready to make their final push to try and lock in their spot for the postseason. While the Wild Card spots have allowed more teams into the dance, some are still eyeing a possible division championship. With the Atlanta Braves being a mainstay at the top of the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies, on their hot streak, look ready to make a move to the top of the division.
