We’re in New York for this one. Comedian Pete Lee and Nick Melillo of Foundation Cigars join me at the Stand. Pete lost his house in the Palisades fire. He found out while he was on stage, and then he went and did The Tonight Show. He talks about rebuilding, his eight years “in development” at the Comedy Store, and why moving to New York with a backpack and a CPAP made him funnier. He also tells us how he ended up naming Liquid Death’s flavors and starring in a CPAP ad. Nick explains why Connecticut grows the best cigar wrappers in the world (blame a glacier), and how a Joe Rogan episode led to Foundation’s Rogan cigar. We also cover two ways to meet Steven Spielberg (Pete’s involves a colonoscopy), my first night at the Comedy Store with Mitzi Shore, LA crowds vs. New York crowds, and why live comedy matters more than ever. SO… WHAT’S IT LIKE WRITING JOKES FOR DONALD TRUMP?T here are writing jobs. Then there are writing jobs where you sit down at your computer and think:Okay. What would Donald Trump think is funny? My guest this week on STANDUPWORLD is comedian Adam Hunter, who actually got hired to write comedy material for Trump. That alone was enough for me.I wanted to know how you write jokes for somebody with such a recognizable voice. Do you write what YOU think is funny? What HE thinks is funny? Do you hear his voice in your head while you're typing?Adam tells me how he got the job, what he wrote, and what happened when Trump actually used one of his jokes. We also get into stand-up, Gutfeld!, politics, writing for other people and the increasingly bizarre business of trying to make people laugh for a living.
