Pop! a music podcast, on this episode Steve is joined by John Henry from Washington metallic hardcore crew Darkest Hour, one of the most consistently excellent heavy bands of this Millennium. His band have a new album out on the 30th of October, their 11th, it's called Suffer Divine, and it continues their trajectory of releasing exclusively superb records. To celebrate the release of the album, John joins us to pick 5 albums, ranging from The Beatles at their most experimental, to the superstar grunge album, to legendary melodic death metal from some of the scenes legends.

Hello and welcome to a special review podcast on Dopamine Chamber, the 5th and brand new album from Irish post-punk, indie bands Fontaines D.C. Fontaines D.C.'s 2024 album Romance has turned them into the biggest UK guitar band of their generation. They're headlining festivals and, from next summer, stadiums, they have every chance of becoming the 2020's version of Oasis or Arctic Monkey's for young guitar music loving fans. The final thing they need to do to cement that legacy, release another big hitter of an album. Dopamine Chamber is their attempt at doing just that, continuing the alt-rock feel of Romance and making another set of post-punk, industrialised synth heavy rock songs with frontman Grian Chatten's unmistakable vocal charm at the forefront. Is it as good as their previous albums? Will it keep the momentum flowing? Listen in to find out.

It's time for us to have a look at some of the stinkiest music ever made and continue our search for the nadir of the album in Trve. Crvp. Pop! On this episode Steve and Sam take a look at the much maligned 8th studio album from thrash metal legends Megadeth; Risk, released on the 6th of September 1999. Oh Risk, what are you playing at?! Whilst a lot of the thrash bands from the 80's struggled as soon as Nirvana came into the view of the horizon in the 1990's, Megadeth did a decent enough job of staying relevant for a while. 1992's Countdown to Extinction and 1994's Youthanasia were both a success, and whilst 1997's Cryptic Writings didn't fare quite so well in the newly nu metalled up landscape of heavy music, it had a big radio hit, Trust, on it to keep them ticking over. Megadeth saw for themselves just how things were going to be as they played the Ozzfest in 1998 and Woodstock in 1999, getting a chance to witness Korn, Limp Bizkit, System of a Down, Kid Rock, Sevendust, Snot, Coal Chamber, Godsmack and the rest at their peak. So they knew what to do with this information right? Yeah, make a radio friendly hard rock/electro pop mash up that sounded a bit like Savage Garden and Bon Jovi... wait... what...? It flopped, the band left their label, split up a few years later and, were it not for a phoenix like return, this may have been one of the final abiding memories of Megadeth as a band. But, come on, is it that bad really?

On this week's show Merlin Alderslade joins us once again, to give, and be given, a little education on an artist that he loves, and one he has never heard before, in what might be a new podcast idea. Merl gives Steve the 2006 album Random Album Title by Canadian house producer Deadmau5, whilst Steve responds by giving Merl his first listen to German electro pioneers Kraftwerk's underrated 1986 album Techno Pop (or Electric Cafe if you're going to go with its original title.) In the process they find plenty of similarities, and muse on the evolution of electronic music as well. There's also reviews of new music from Emma Ruth Rundle, No Cure, Foaming Mouth, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Diljit Donsanjh and Mykki Blanco.

On this episode Steve looks at the new documentary/concert film Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger, the story of the massive Oasis reunion and subsequent world dominating tour that followed their return. Directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern, famous for their documentary work with Blur, LCD Soundsystem and the New York garage rock documentary Meet Me in the Bathroom, the film follows Oasis around the world, showing the reaction from fans, the rebuilding of the relationship between the Gallagher brothers and some truly breathtaking live footage from the concerts.

On this week's show Steve is joined by Jimi and Dazz from the Bangers & Mosh Podcast to talk about the sad news that we lost Andy Williams, wrestling star and former guitarist of Buffalo, New York hardcore band Every Time I Die, at the all too young age of 48 last week. As a tribute to him, we look at the incredible career of his band with a beginners guide to ETID. Formed in 1998, Every Time I Die released nine studio albums that straddled the line between pure metallic hardcore, Southern rock, melodic post-hardcore, groove metal and much much more until they abruptly split in 2022. They may not be the biggest band, but theirs is a back catalogue of rare quality, here we present the album to start with, the underrated classic, the album to avoid (if such a thing exists) and namecheck our own personal favourite live shows by the band.
