This text should make it clear that Yahweh's promises were never to the nation of Israel as a whole but to a chosen remnant.

This text should make it clear that Yahweh's promises were never to the nation of Israel as a whole but to a chosen remnant.

Why is it that Israel, God's people were not believing the Gospel? It wasn't that they hadn't heard or didn't understand. What did Paul mean by, "Their voice has gone out to all the earth?"

Paul is again stressing that salvation is by faith alone. There are no human works involved in salvation. He compares the works of the Law with the faith that comes through the grace of God.

We'll be examining the cultural context behind the parable of the prodigal son. What are we being told? What symbolism are we missing? Who do the parties represent?

Paul, after hammering the idea of God's sovereignty in chapter 9, starts chapter 10 by saying that he is praying for Israel. Have you ever wondered: If God is sovereign why pray?

Understanding Scripture requires understanding context, and context is multi-faceted.

As we look at our text for today we see that Yahweh had prophesied that Christ would be a stumbling stone and a Rock of offense to the Jews. But to all who trust in Him he is the Cornerstone of the new Temple.

As we look at our text for today we see that Yahweh's plan was always to only save a remnant. Paul quotes from Isaiah to back up the salvation of only a remnant from national Israel. Proving that "not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel."

As we look at our text for today we see that Yahweh's will is sovereign. If Yahweh wills it, it happens. But what about sin? Does Yahweh will sin? Scripture please!

As we look at our text for today we see that Yahweh does not give mercy to everyone. This maybe hard to accept but Yahweh is sovereign in his mercy and he gives it and withholds it as he wills.

This text shows us that being true Israel is not about ethnicity but about promise. Two sons in the same womb but one is chosen and one is rejected, before they were ever born.

This is a very important verse in understanding who is the Israel of God. In his first use of the term Israel in Romans Paul teaches that there are two Israels.

For the next several weeks we are going to be looking at Romans 9. This chapter is one of the strongest texts on the Sovereignty of God and also one of the clearest texts on explaining who is the Israel of God.

What does God expect from His people? What should be our priority in dealing with other people? How many Christians do you know that are truly sold out for Yahweh?
