The Campden Wonder | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/25
In this True Crime Sleep Stories episode, we cover the Campden Wonder, the nearly 400-year-old unsolved disappearance of William Harrison in Chipping Campden, Cotswolds, in 1660. After the estate steward vanished while collecting rent, his servant John Perry and the Perry family (Joan and Richard) were convicted and hanged for his murder despite no body being found. Harrison later returned alive, claiming he had been kidnapped and sold into slavery in Turkey, making the Campden Wonder one of England’s most famous historical true crime mysteries and a lasting cautionary tale about convicting without a body.Patreon Exclusive: Ad-free version & bonus content available now for supporters.Your support keeps the stories coming... thank you! 💤 Listen & Connect• Watch on YouTube: youtube.com/@SleepyTimeCreepyTime• Listen on Apple Podcasts | Spotify Stay in TouchFacebookInstagram: @truecrimesleepstories | @kellibrinkTikTok: @truecrimesleepstories Buy the True Crime Sleep Stories Books by Kelli BrinkVol. 1: amzn.to/3Z8jx5LVol. 2: amzn.to/4kAthhjVol. 3: amzn.to/3H9xfPQSupport the show on PatreonTrue Crime Sleep Stories is hosted and created by Kelli Brink, produced with the support of our dedicated team. The Mothman of Point Pleasant | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/24
2 couples drive past the old TNT plant outside Point Pleasant, West Virginia, when headlights catch the Mothman... tall, gray, with glowing red eyes. It follows their car at nearly a hundred miles an hour. They go straight to the courthouse. The deputy says they weren’t lying.Tonight’s episode is a step further into the dark for 31 Nights of Frights. Ordinary people reported Mothman sightings around Point Pleasant, strange visitors, and silent phone calls. 13 months later, the Silver Bridge collapsed into the Ohio River with Christmas traffic on it. 46 people died. The crack in the steel had been growing for years, experts said. This episode stays with the people who never stopped saying the Mothman wasn’t a bird, the reporter who wrote it all down, the town of Point Pleasant that still remembers the names and put up a statue with red eyes.Patreon Exclusive: Ad-free version & bonus content available now for supporters.Your support keeps the stories coming... The Bell Witch of Adams, Tennessee | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/23
A lot of people might not think the Bell Witch story is “true crime.” It sounds like folklore or a classic ghost tale. But it is true crime for one simple reason: John Bell was murdered. Welcome to another 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories. In 1820, on the Bell family farm along the Red River in what is now Adams, Tennessee (Robertson County), John Bell died in his bed. If you believe it was the Bell Witch (the voice the neighbors called Kate), then a supernatural being killed him. If you don’t believe in witches or ghosts, then a person put poison in his medicine cabinet and gave him a fatal dose while he slept. Either way, a man died and someone, or something, did it. That’s the definition of true crime. This is the rare case where the supernatural and the murder aren’t competing explanations. They’re the same story. Whether it was a ghostly witch or a human hand that put the poison in that vial, John Bell was murdered in his own bed. Most of what we know about the Bell Witch haunting comes from his son Richard Williams Bell’s 1846 manuscript, later published in 1894. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. Sleep well. Near Misses: The Ones Who Walked Away | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/22
In this True Crime Sleep Stories episode, hear five quiet near-miss stories of ordinary people who came close to dangerous men, including Rodney Alcala, Ted Bundy, and Israel Keyes... and went home safe. None of them knew the full picture at the time. Most only learned years later. These gentle true crime accounts focus on the moments when something felt off and the people who trusted that feeling. There’s a canceled date after The Dating Game, a Tinder match that shifted, a fireplace that filled with smoke, a couple parked at an Anchorage overlook, and a red truck on a dark highway. These stories touch on real cases, but we stay with the people who walked away and keep the details soft and low-stakes, perfect for falling asleep. The stories:The Dating Game, September 1978: Cheryl Bradshaw picked Bachelor Number One on the popular TV show. After meeting him, she called the casting director and canceled the date because something felt wrong. She was right. The man was Rodney Alcala, a serial killer already responsible for multiple murders.Salt Lake City, April 2019: Missy Lewis matched with a charming man on Tinder. When he pushed to meet in a parking lot and his tone changed, she unmatched him. Less than two months later his face was on the news.Seattle, early 1970s: Elizabeth Kloepfer (also known as Elizabeth Kendall) fell asleep in front of the fireplace with her longtime boyfriend Ted Bundy. She woke up to a room full of smoke after he closed the damper and blocked the door. Years later he told her what he had done.Point Woronzof, Anchorage, spring 2011: A young couple sat in their car at the overlook. Serial killer Israel Keyes was watching from the trees with a silenced rifle, ready to shoot. Two officers doing a routine closing-time check changed the night, and their fate. The couple’s names are still unknown.A lonely highway, ~2000: A woman in the Army was driving from Colorado to Arizona when a red truck flashed its lights and honked. She started to pull over, then changed her mind halfway to the back of her car. She later saw a similar story on a crime show. They all noticed something felt off and acted on it.I believe we’re given intuition for a reason. Animals trust it without argument. We often talk ourselves out of it. This episode is a calm reminder to listen the first time your gut tells you something isn’t right, especially in true crime near-miss situations like these. The Ghost Ship on Diamond Shoals: The Carroll A. Deering | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/21
In January 1921, the five-masted schooner Carroll A. Deering was found abandoned on Diamond Shoals off Cape Hatteras in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, sails set, food in the galley, and her entire crew of eleven missing. This classic Outer Banks ghost ship mystery has the shape of true crime, with theories of mutiny, piracy, crew tension under Captain Willis B. Wormell, a strange hail from a non-officer, and missing lifeboats and navigation gear, yet nothing has ever been proven and the fate of the men remains unsolved. A broken radio on the Cape Lookout lightship may have delayed any warning, and a later message in a bottle that briefly gave hope to Wormell’s daughter Lula turned out to be a hoax. If you visit the Outer Banks, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras has displayed the ship’s bell and capstan, and local houses were built with her timbers. This maritime mystery sits right on the line between true crime and something we may never fully understand. Thank you for listening. Sleep well, and lock your doors. The Missing Flannan Isles Lighthouse Keepers of Eilean Mòr | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/20
The Flannan Isles Lighthouse Mystery: three lighthouse keepers vanish without a trace on Eilean Mòr, Scotland, in December 1900. A calm, cozy true crime sleep story for 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories. In December 1900, three lighthouse keepers vanished from the remote Flannan Isles, about twenty miles west of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland's Outer Hebrides. James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald McArthur simply disappeared from their post on Eilean Mòr. No bodies were ever recovered. More than a century later, this unsolved disappearance remains one of Scotland's most famous historical mysteries. This episode walks through the historical record: the newly built Flannan Isles Lighthouse, the quiet routines of a rock station, the last ordinary entries on the station slate, the storm damage found on the west landing, and Superintendent Robert Muirhead's careful inquiry. It also separates the facts from the later legends that have gathered around the empty tower, like an untouched meal, an overturned chair, and a logbook filled with terror and prayer. Along the way we look at the theories, from a rogue wave to sea serpents and the Phantom of the Seven Hunters. What remains, when the inventions are set aside, is a very human winter and three experienced men who set out to keep a light burning for ships they would never meet. The men are long lost, but their names are not.James Ducat.Thomas Marshall.Donald McArthur.Sleep well, dear listener. Charles Bravo & The Priory Mystery | 31 Nights of Frights On True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/19
Welcome to another 31 Nights of Frights On True Crime Sleep Stories. In the spring of 1876, Balham still felt almost like a village on London's southern edge. On Bedford Hill stood The Priory, a large white house with turrets, horses in the stables, and an ordinary Tuesday dinner waiting indoors. Barrister Charles Bravo, 31 years old and just 4 months into a marriage with wealthy widow Florence Bravo, sat down with Florence and her companion, Mrs. Jane Cox. He drank Burgundy. They did not. A little after nine he went upstairs and fell violently ill. Doctors came through the night, including Sir William Gull. On the morning of April 21, 1876, Charles died. Chemists found a massive dose of antimony... tartar emetic... in his body. What happened next? Listen to find out. 2026/10/18
Welcome to another night of our 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories. I'll fill you in on our night of EVP sessions, the Estes method, and a spirit box that said some names I still can't explain.Thank you so much for being here and supporting the show. The Secrets of Madeleine Smith | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/17
Welcome to another night of 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories. Tonight we travel to Glasgow in the late 1850s, to Blythswood Square and the stone townhouses above the busy streets. An architect’s daughter writes secret letters to a packing clerk from Jersey. Three purchases of arsenic appear in the chemists’ registers on Sauchiehall Street, in her name. On the March 23, 1857, Pierre Emile L’Angelier dies of arsenic poisoning at home. A jury in Edinburgh returns a mixture of "not guilty" and "not proven". The Pascagoula UFO Incident | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/16
Welcome to another night of "31 Nights of Frights" on True Crime Sleep Stories. Tonight we venture down to the banks of the Pascagoula River in Mississippi on the evening of October 11, 1973.This is the story of two shipyard workers, Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker, who went fishing after work and came back with an account that has never quite been settled... a detailed account of a UFO. There's no tidy ending. What remains is a sheriff’s audio tape, a carefully worded statement from astronomer J. Allen Hynek, a contested polygraph, and fifty-three years of argument about what, if anything, happened on that old pier.If you have a strange story of a light in the sky, or a creepy tale of your own that still sits with you, you know where to send it. :-)Thank you for listening. It Wasn’t Just A Halloween Decoration | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/15
Welcome back to 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories... You’ve heard the urban legend. Someone’s driving past the pumpkins and fog machines in late October when one house seems to have gone too far. There’s a body hanging from a tree, or slumped on a porch, so realistic that people slow down. Kids point. Days go by. Then someone finally walks close enough to realize it was never a decoration. In October 2015, in Chillicothe, Ohio, a version of that story actually happened. A young mother was found hanging from a fence on a quiet dead-end street. Neighbors had walked right past her that morning. The case that followed included an arrest, DNA evidence, a trial, and a not-guilty verdict. The full story of what happened to Rebecca Cade, and the two other times this same legend has come true, is in tonight’s episode. The Borley Rectory Hauntings | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/14
Welcome back to 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories. Tonight's episode is about the Borley Rectory, and it is a ghost story with a dash of possible true crime. If you grew up reading old ghost books like I did, Borley was always in there, usually with that grainy photo of the big brick house and a caption calling it the most haunted house in England. What I love about this case is that the more you read, the less it's about a ghost and the more it's about people. You've got a Victorian minister with fourteen kids. You've got his son, who apparently loved telling the story. You've got a new minister and his wife who just wanted a job and ended up with reporters camped on their lawn. And then you've got Lionel and Marianne Foyster, which honestly could be its own episode. A sick older husband writing down every bump in the night, and a young wife who, it turns out, had a whole second life no one knew about. And of course there's Harry Price. Harry is really my favorite sort of story character, and he makes me forget that this is actually a TRUE story, not fiction.Patreon Exclusive: Ad-free version & bonus content available now for supporters.Your support keeps the stories coming... The Devil's Footprints | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/13
Welcome to another night of 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories. On the night of February 8, 1855, snow fell over the villages along the River Exe in South Devon, England. The next morning, people in Topsham, Lympstone, Exmouth, Woodbury, Starcross, Dawlish, and Teignmouth found a line of small hoof-shaped prints in the snow. They came in a single file, about eight and a half inches apart. They went up to doors, over tall walls, across rooftops, over haystacks, and through a drainpipe. They showed up on both sides of a two-mile-wide estuary. Tonight we follow those tracks through the frightened villages, into the pages of The Times and the Illustrated London News, and into the sermons and notes of two local vicars, the Reverend G. M. Musgrave and the Reverend Henry Thomas Ellacombe. Then we look at the explanations people have offered ever since, from badgers and wood mice to a runaway balloon from the Devonport dockyard. Was it the Devil? Or something more benign? The Disappearance of Judge Crater | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/12
Welcome to 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories...On August 6, 1930, New York Supreme Court Justice Joseph Force Crater disappeared after dinner at a West 45th Street chophouse in Manhattan. He had returned from Maine earlier that week, spent the morning with files in his chambers, cashed checks for more than $5,000, and arranged a theater ticket before meeting two companions. No confirmed sighting exists after he left the restaurant. A later grand jury found the evidence insufficient to determine whether he had left of his own accord, suffered amnesia, or been the victim of a crime. His wife Stella later discovered a will, cash, and a short note in their apartment; the police closed the missing-person file in 1979 with no remains identified. This episode recounts the known sequence of events and leaves the rest open. The Death of Jeannette DePalma, Revisited | 31 Nights of Frights on True Crime Sleep Stories
2026/10/11
Tonight’s episode is one of the oldest on the show, from back when True Crime Sleep Stories was still new and I was often recording on my cell phone. Most of you never heard the original, so for 31 Nights of Frights it felt like the right time to tell it again. This is the 1972 case of 16-year-old Jeannette DePalma, who vanished from Springfield, New Jersey, and was found six weeks later on a cliff the locals called the Devil’s Teeth.
