Don't Fail Your Electrician Exam! Mock Test Guide
2026/10/06
Test your knowledge with this electrician exam question set. I am walking through real-world scenarios to sharpen your diagnostic skills.Getting ready for your assessments means understanding how to approach complex electrical systems. Whether you are dealing with domestic, commercial, or industrial properties, being able to perform accurate fault diagnosis is a core competency every sparky needs to master. We look at specific technical challenges, including the correct procedures for safe isolation and how to interpret Zs measurement results. These practice questions are designed to help you identify common issues quickly so you can resolve them confidently on site. Proper electrical testing is the foundation of a safe installation, and these mock scenarios will help you prepare for the real thing.Subscribe for more electrician exam questions, apprentice revision, and real-world sparky knowledge.0:00 Setting the Stage for Fault Diagnosis0:47 Environmental Factors in Electrical Faults2:15 Analyzing Discrepancies in Loop Impedance4:22 The Importance of Documenting Test Results5:55 Mastering the Sequence of Dead Testing11:03 Diagnosing Persistent Circuit Breaker Trips17:22 Handling Intermittent Faults That Clear40:03 Safety Procedures for Near-Live WorkHow good is your electrical fault finding? ⚡After more than 20 years working as an electrician, I decided to sit a full fault diagnosis mock exam and see how much I actually know. This one covers 60 questions, 90 minutes, with a 60% pass mark.I ended up with…78% ✅So apparently when someone rings me with an electrical fault, I’ve got about a 78% chance of figuring it out. 😂In this video I work through fault diagnosis questions covering:✅ Electrical fault finding✅ Zs and Ze readings✅ R1+R2 testing✅ High resistance faults✅ Ring final circuit faults✅ Insulation resistance testing✅ RCD faults and nuisance tripping✅ Neutral-to-earth faults✅ Safe isolation✅ Proving dead✅ Faulty circuit breakers✅ Three-phase faults✅ Phase rotation✅ Open neutral faults✅ PME / TN-C-S supplies✅ Earth fault loop impedance✅ Earth leakage testing✅ Clamp meters✅ Continuity testing✅ High resistance connections✅ Reverse polarity✅ Outdoor lighting faults✅ Moisture ingress✅ Arcing faults✅ Motor faults✅ Fault finding documentation✅ Intermittent electrical faults✅ Electrical testing instruments✅ Apprentice electrician revisionWhat I like about fault finding is that you can apply the questions to things you actually see on site. For example:If a circuit breaker immediately trips again after you reset it with no load connected, there’s probably still a persistent fault somewhere on that circuit. If outdoor lighting works intermittently, moisture ingress or corroded connections should definitely be somewhere on your list of things to investigate. If you’ve got a high resistance connection, you might start finding localised heating and discolouration, especially as the load increases. And if a customer says:“It trips sometimes…”That’s when the fun really begins. 😂One of the biggest parts of good fault diagnosis is working logically.Test.Record the reading.Use that result to decide what you test next. That is basically how I approach fault finding on site. There are also plenty of questions in this exam that made me stop and think — especially when we get into three-phase systems, VFDs, PME faults and some of the more technical testing questions. So if you’re training to become an electrician, studying City & Guilds, preparing for fault diagnosis assessments or you simply want to test your knowledge, play along and see if you can beat my 78%.⚠️ This video shows me working through a mock exam and thinking aloud. Always use current BS 7671, manufacturer guidance, HSE guidance and your course material when carrying out electrical work or preparing for an assessment.
Can a 20-Year Pro Pass a Level 3 Electrical Exam? ⚡

Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools still pass a Level 3 Electrical Science and Principles mock exam? ⚡Tool Box Talk Products to help aspiring sparks - https://toolboxtalkforelectricians.kit.com/productsThis is the one I was not looking forward to.After passing and failing a few of the other mock exams, I went back onto the Electmate app to take on Level 3 Paper 3: Electrical Science and Principles. And this one was full of calculations. In this video I cover:✅ Level 3 electrical science exam✅ Electrical principles mock exam✅ Ohm’s law questions✅ Resistors in series and parallel✅ Three-phase calculations✅ Transformer current questions✅ Power factor correction✅ Reactive power✅ Capacitive reactance✅ Inductive reactance✅ Motors and slip✅ DOL starters✅ CT clamps✅ Voltage drop✅ Lighting design and lux calculations✅ RMS and peak voltage✅ Energy, power and time✅ Electrical theory vs real-world site work✅ Electrician exam revision✅ Real electrician taking exams againSome of the questions I could work out from site experience. Some of them came back from the depths of my brain. And some of them… I had absolutely no chance without revision and formulas in front of me. 😂This exam shows the difference between being able to do the job in the real world and remembering the theory needed to pass electrical science papers.I’ve tested resistance loads for years. But have I sat there calculating capacitive reactance, transformer primary current or lighting lux levels on a normal domestic job?Not really. So, did I pass? No.Complete fail. But it was interesting to see what’s expected at Level 3 and what apprentices are having to learn now.Would you have passed this one?Drop your score in the comments.📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, electrical theory, Level 3 revision and real-world sparky content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.
Level 3 Electrician Exam: Did I Pass or Fail?
2026/09/21
Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Level 3 Environmental Technology Systems mock exam? ⚡In this video, I take on another electrical exam — but this one is very different from the usual wiring, testing and health and safety questions. This paper covers modern electrical systems, renewable technology, energy efficiency, smart controls, solar PV, EV charging, heat pumps, battery storage and building automation. And I’ll be honest… this one was tough. In this video I cover:✅ Level 3 electrical mock exam✅ Environmental Technology Systems✅ KNX building automation✅ Retrofit in buildings✅ Smart Export Guarantee✅ Building integrated photovoltaics✅ Solar PV systems✅ Solar inverters✅ EV charging requirements✅ Type A and Type B RCD questions✅ Air source heat pumps✅ Heat pump defrost cycles✅ Battery storage✅ Peak shaving✅ Smart charging✅ IoT sensors✅ Power over Ethernet✅ Z-Wave smart home systems✅ Building automation✅ EPCs and energy labels✅ Part L questions✅ SAP and SBEM✅ Net zero targets✅ Waste hierarchy✅ Circular economy✅ MCS solar PV requirements✅ Real electrician vs modern exam questionsThis exam shows how much the electrical industry is changing.Years ago, being an electrician was mainly about wiring houses, consumer units, sockets, lights, testing and fault finding. Now, electricians are expected to understand solar, batteries, EV chargers, heat pumps, smart homes, energy performance, carbon targets, environmental rules and building automation systems. Some of it makes sense. Some of it feels like it belongs on a solar course, EV course or environmental technology course rather than a general electrician exam. But this is where the industry is heading.I was close… but this one got me.Would you have passed it?Drop your score in the comments.📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, Level 3 electrical revision, electrical theory, solar PV, EV chargers, heat pumps and real-world sparky content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.
I Took the Level 3 Health and Safety Exam After 20 Years On the Job
2026/09/18
Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Level 3 Health and Safety mock exam? ⚡Tool Box Talk For Electricians Products - https://toolboxtalkforelectricians.kit.com/productsThe software used in this videos is - Elec Mate https://www.elec-mate.com/r/REF-2B762DAfter working through the Level 2 exams, I’m now moving onto Level 3 to see whether the questions are still relevant, whether they’ve changed over the years, and whether real-world experience is enough to get through them. This exam covers RIDDOR, first aid, safety data sheets, method statements, live working, asbestos, risk assessments, electric shock, arc flash injuries, fire extinguishers, safe isolation, working at height, CDM regulations and more.In this video I cover:✅ Level 3 electrician mock exam✅ Level 3 Health and safety exam questions✅ RIDDOR reporting✅ Specified injuries✅ Safety Data Sheets✅ Method statements✅ Risk assessments✅ Live working procedures✅ Safe isolation✅ Asbestos awareness✅ First aid on site✅ Electric shock response✅ Arc flash injuries✅ Fire extinguishers for electrical fires✅ Working at height✅ CDM 2015 questions✅ Construction phase plans✅ Apprentice electrician revision✅ Real electrician vs exam theorySome of the questions are useful and definitely relevant to being on site.Others feel like pure exam wording, legal jargon, or things you’d only know if you’d revised properly beforehand. But that’s the whole point of this series — seeing what apprentices, trainees and adult learners are expected to know, and whether experienced electricians could still pass these exams after years away from college.I needed 60% to pass.Only just… but a pass is a pass. 😂📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, health and safety revision, electrical theory, safe isolation and real-world sparky content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money. Can a qualified electrician with 20 years of experience still pass a Level 3 health and safety exam? Can a 20-Year Electrician Pass This Mock Exam? ⚡
2026/09/11
Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Level 2 Communicating with Building Services mock exam? ⚡Tool Box Talk Products - https://toolboxtalkforelectricians.kit.com/products In this video, I take exam number five on the Elect mate app and work through another 60-question mock paper. This one is less about wiring and more about communication, paperwork, site procedures, health and safety, handovers, customer records, GDPR, EICRs, variations, site inductions and working with other trades. In this video I cover:✅ Level 2 electrician mock exam✅ Communicating with building services✅ Elect mate app exam questions✅ Health and safety notices✅ EICR record keeping✅ Company policies✅ Site inductions✅ Handover documentation✅ Near misses and incident reporting✅ DBS checks on school sites✅ Customer body language✅ Drawings vs specifications✅ IT acceptable use policies✅ Snagging lists✅ Variations and site diaries✅ Working safely on site✅ Customer communication✅ C3 observations on EICRs✅ Safe isolation communication✅ Paper trails for electriciansSome of this exam feels like common sense, some of it feels useful for site work, and some of it feels like pure jargon that most sparks probably don’t use every day.But this is part of the process if you’re training to become an electrician. It’s not just about wiring sockets and consumer units. You also need to understand communication, records, site rules, safety procedures, documentation and how to protect yourself when something goes wrong.I needed 60% to pass.I got 70% — 42 out of 60.So that’s another pass in the exam series.📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, electrical theory, safe isolation, EICRs, site work and real-world sparky content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.
I Got 87% on an Electrician Mock Exam
2026/09/09
Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Level 2 Installing Wiring Systems and Enclosures mock exam? ⚡ The software used in this videos is - Elec Mate https://www.elec-mate.com/r/REF-2B762D In this video, I jump back onto the Elect mate app and take paper four in the Level 2 electrical exam series. This one covers conduit, cable tray, cable management, safe isolation, conduit bending, socket heights, risk assessments, wiring systems, enclosures, IP ratings, R1 + R2 testing, bonding, SWA glands, fire stopping, minor works certificates and more. In this video I cover: ✅ Level 2 electrical exam ✅ Installing wiring systems and enclosures ✅ Electrician mock exam ✅ Electmate app mock papers ✅ Conduit installation questions ✅ Cable tray and trunking ✅ Saddle bends and conduit routes ✅ Risk assessments and safety procedures ✅ Socket height in dwellings ✅ Calibration certificates ✅ R1 + R2 testing ✅ SWA cable termination ✅ IP ratings explained ✅ Fire stopping cable penetrations ✅ Cable management systems ✅ Safe isolation procedure ✅ Minor works certificates ✅ Real electrician vs exam theory Some of these questions are proper common sense and very relevant to working as an electrician. Others still feel like exam wording trying to catch you out. But this one actually felt a lot closer to real site work: conduit, fixings, testing, drawings, cable support, enclosures, tray, trunking and installation methods. After passing some and failing some in this series, this was my best result so far. I needed 60% to pass. I got 87%. Not bad for a spark who hasn’t sat college exams for years. 😂 📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, electrical theory, installation methods, safe isolation, testing and real-world sparky content. 🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.
I Took a Level 2 Installation Exam: Did I Fail?
2026/09/07
Can a qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Level 2 Installation Methods and Technology mock exam? ⚡Tool Box Talk - Downloads - https://toolboxtalkforelectricians.kit.com/productsIn this video, I jump back onto the Elect mate app and take another mock exam to see how much of the college theory still makes sense after years of actually working in the electrical industry. This paper covers installation methods, cable types, current carrying capacity, earthing systems, SWA, containment, solar PV, bonding, voltage drop, first fix, second fix, safe isolation, BS7671, testing, fire stopping and more.In this video I cover:✅ Level 2 electrical installation exam✅ Installation methods and technology✅ Electrician mock exam✅ Electmate app mock papers✅ Cable selection questions✅ SWA cable and armouring✅ Twin and earth cable✅ PV and inverter questions✅ Earthing systems: TT, TN-C-S and PME✅ Main bonding questions✅ First fix and second fix✅ RCD protection for sockets✅ Buried cable warning tape✅ Cable tray and trunking✅ PAT testing questions✅ Test equipment calibration✅ Fire stopping in cable installations✅ BS7671 questions✅ Real electrician vs exam theorySome questions are spot on and useful for the real world.Others feel like the sort of thing you learn just to pass the exam, then barely use day-to-day as a normal domestic or commercial spark. But that’s the point of this series — seeing what’s actually involved in becoming a qualified electrician, and whether someone with 20+ years’ experience can still pass the theory papers.I needed 60% to pass.Did I pass this one?Watch and find out.📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, electrical theory, installation methods, testing, safe isolation and real-world electrician content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.
Can a Qualified Electrician Pass Electrical Science?
2026/09/05
Can a fully qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools pass a Principles of Electrical Science mock exam? ⚡The software used in this videos is - Elec Mate https://www.elec-mate.com/r/REF-2B762DAfter passing the first health and safety mock exam, I decided to try the next one on the Electmate app — and this one was a different story. This exam covered RMS, flux density, capacitors, Ohm’s law, voltage drop, resistance, AC/DC, semiconductors, superconductors, efficiency, load factors, impedance and plenty of calculations I haven’t used much in real day-to-day domestic electrical work.✅ Level 2 electrical science mock exam✅ Principles of electrical science✅ Electrician exam questions✅ Ohm’s law calculations✅ RMS voltage✅ Capacitors and time constants✅ Voltage drop questions✅ Resistance and conductance✅ AC and DC theory✅ Semiconductors and superconductors✅ Load factor and efficiency✅ Electrical science terminology✅ Why revision matters✅ Qualified electrician taking exams again✅ Real-world electrician vs exam theorySome of the questions felt useful, some were worded in a confusing way, and some made me wonder how often a normal domestic spark actually uses this stuff on site. But that’s the point — exams are a different skill.Being good on the tools doesn’t automatically mean you’ll smash the theory paper without revision. This one gave me a proper reminder of how hard it can be for apprentices, trainees and adult learners going through electrical training today.Drop a comment and let me know — would you have passed this one?📌 Subscribe for more electrician exam videos, apprentice training, electrical theory, real-world sparky content and Toolbox Talks for Electricians.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.

Can a fully qualified electrician with over 20 years on the tools still pass a basic Level 2 electrician exam? ⚡The software used in this videos is - Elec Mate https://www.elec-mate.com/r/REF-2B762DIn this video, I sit a Level 2-style health and safety mock exam to see if real-world experience is enough to get through the questions. Tool Box Talk Downloads - https://toolboxtalkforelectricians.kit.com/productsI’ve worked in the electrical industry for over 20 years across domestic, commercial and industrial work — but sitting exams is a completely different game.In this video I cover:✅ Level 2 electrician mock exam✅ Health and safety exam questions✅ Electrical apprenticeship training✅ PPE questions✅ Safe isolation questions✅ RIDDOR questions✅ Waste and WEEE regulations✅ Construction site safety✅ Risk assessments and method statements✅ Electrical shock and burns✅ Working safely on site✅ Exam wording and confusing terminology✅ Qualified electrician taking exams again✅ Adult learners training as electriciansSome of the questions feel obvious, some are worded strangely, and some make you realise how much exam terminology you forget when you’ve been out on site for years. This gave me even more respect for apprentices, adult learners and anyone training to become an electrician today.I needed 60% to pass.So the question is… did I pass or fail?Watch the video and see how I got on.📌 Subscribe for more electrician training videos, electrical exams, apprenticeship advice, safe isolation, testing, fault finding and real-life electrician content.🎧 Listen to Toolbox Talks for Electricians for more ways to reduce stress, gain back time and earn more money.

Tool Thieves Hit 20 Vans in One Night – Are YOU Next?
2026/02/09
Tool theft is getting out of hand in the UK. Vans peeled open, gear gone in seconds, lads off the tools for weeks. In this episode of Toolbox Talks for Electricians, I’m joined by James from MKL to talk honestly about van break-ins, stolen tools and the real impact it has on UK tradesmen and their families. We’re talking hit squads doing 20 vans in one night, dodgy car boots, fake “no tools left in this van” stickers, AirTags, Ghost immobilisers, extra locks – and what actually works (and what’s a complete waste of time 💸).We also get into the mental side of being robbed:That horrible gut punch when you see the van door hanging openThe paranoia every time a car slows down near your vanThe stress of cancelling jobs, letting customers down and trying to start again from scratchOn the flip side, we talk about how the trade community rallies round – lads lending drills, spare kits, sharing CCTV and number plates, and legends like Stolen Tools UK helping get stolen gear identified and recovered. If you’re a sparky, plumber, chippy, builder or any UK tradesman, this chat will hit home – and hopefully give you some ideas to protect yourself, your van and your livelihood.🧷Check Out Some Good Bits Here - 1. Grow Your Electrical Business in 2025: Pricing, Google Maps & High-Value Work
2026/02/02
If you’re an electrician who feels flat out busy but still skint at the end of the month, this episode is going to sting a bit… in a good way.In this Toolbox Talk For Electricians, I’m joined by Andy Hill from 365 Services MK – a multi-trade business owner, qualified electrician and construction business coach – to break down what it really takes to run a profitable electrical business in the UK.Andy’s story is mad:Started as a carpenter/builder, running a construction firmLost a fortune in the 2008 recessionRetrained as an electrician, became a director in an electrical firmEventually shut that down and launched 365 Services MK on his ownWent back, finished the qualifications, AM2, 2391, gold card, the lotNow runs a growing electrical & construction business and coaches trades on business, pricing and marketingWe talk honestly about the bits most sparkies avoid: knowing your numbers, saying no to bad jobs, and why “£250 a day” is not your profit. In this episode we dive into:From building to electrics (and back again)How Andy went from carpenter/builder to electrician, lost money in the crash, rebuilt, and what he’d do differently if he started again.Running a business vs being “just a good spark”Why being technically decent on the tools isn’t enough – and the mindset shift from “self-employed spark” to business owner.Business partners, fallouts and going soloThe reality of running a company with three directors, money imbalance, and why Andy eventually decided to walk away and set up 365 Services MK on his own.Knowing your numbers (so you stop being a busy fool)Why labour is NOT profitDaily overheads, materials, fuel, software, insuranceHow to work out what you actually need to charge per dayUsing Google Sheets / Excel to track every single job and marginPricing electrical work properlyDay rates vs fixed prices, where most trades undercharge, and how to price so you’re not robbing Peter to pay Paul every month.Saying “no” to the wrong customersRed flags:“Do us a deal, mate…”“I’ve got loads of properties after this…”Constant haggling and comparing you to “another electrician” who never seems to show up.Niche down to level up (EV chargers, rewires & more)How Andy used niche services like EV charger installs and higher-value work to grow faster, rather than doing every low-margin job going.Google Business Profile & online marketing for electriciansWhy Google Maps / Google Business Profile is gold for local tradesWhy Checkatrade & MyBuilder mainly feed their marketing, not yoursPosting photos, getting reviews and staying active so you sit in the top 3Building a brand so customers search you by nameApprentices, systems & scaling a teamHow Andy is training his son up through the business, putting systems and processes in place so he can scale to multiple teams and eventually step back.Stress, ADHD/autism and running a trades businessAndy talks openly about structure, routines and how his brain works – and how that actually helps him systemise his business. If you’re a UK electrician thinking about:Going self-employedGrowing your electrical businessGetting off the hamster wheel of cheap jobs and bad customersLearning how to use Google, marketing and proper pricing to earn more…this episode will give you a proper kick in the right direction.👍 If this helped:Hit LIKE to push it out to more sparkiesSUBSCRIBE to Toolbox Talk For Electricians for more real-world chats on business, pricing, customer skills and toolsShare this with a mate who’s thinking about going self-employedConnect with Andy (365 Services MK)Search: “365 Services MK” or “Andy365” on Facebook & TikTok to see more of what he’s doing with electrics, construction and Google marketing for trades.
