2026.09.27 | Greg Nixon | I-A-M : P.S. I Am Sending You
2026/09/29
Closing out the Identity, Authority and Mission series, Greg picks up where the last few weeks left off: chosen, redeemed, sealed, saved for service, ordained to serve. Now what? He goes back to Genesis, to the original call to rule, subdue, serve and keep, and makes the case that this was never about titles or platforms. It's about how you do whatever you're doing, wherever you are. He lands on two unlikely heroes from Acts, Philip and Stephen, ordinary men handed a "lesser" job who ended up walking in remarkable power simply by being faithful to what they were given and lived it out. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.09.20 | Ryan Matthews | Deacons and Servant Leadership
2026/09/28
This Sunday, Freedomhouse ordained/appointed deacons. Ryan looks at Philippians 1 and the ordination of a group of deacons, and unpacks what that word actually means: not a title, not a task list, but a description of a life laid down in love. He traces it through Paul's letters and back to Jesus himself, "the deacon above all deacons," and lays out five things deacons do in a healthy church: pastoral care, community, stewardship, mercy and justice, and empowering others. A good one for anyone wondering what it looks like to lead by serving. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.09.13 | Alexander Venter | I-A-M Series: Seven Things True of You
2026/09/28
Ephesians opens as a prayer, and Paul does something bold with it: he takes the language of Jewish blessing and points it at a new king. In this message from our Identity, Authority and Mission series, Alexander Venter reads Ephesians 1 in its original context, as a subversive letter about a different kingdom, and walks through seven things that are true of everyone in Christ: chosen, holy and blameless, predestined, adopted, redeemed, forgiven and sealed. Along the way he speaks about guilt and shame, why forgiveness still calls for honesty, and the old practice of speaking truth aloud until it settles deeper than the words. One to sit with slowly, and maybe say out loud. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.09.06 | Ryan Matthews | Celebration of Grace (Saved for Service)
2026/09/09
Continuing the Identity, Authority and Mission series, Ryan turns to Ephesians and asks what it actually means to be seated with Christ. Not as a badge to wear, but as a vantage point Paul keeps opening wider: first grace, then power, then purpose. Ryan is honest about how easy it is to get stuck on the first part, that we're saved, forgiven, secure, and stop there. The rest of the passage won't let us. If we're raised with Christ, we're also sent, put on display not as a trophy but as evidence, for a world that needs proof grace is real. A message about what it costs, and what it's for, to actually live that out on the Monday after Sunday. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.08.30 | Ryan Matthews | Freedom from Self
2026/08/31
Ryan opens this message from 2 Corinthians 5 with an admission that he's preached this passage before, with a different emphasis. The line we usually take from it, "you are a new creation," is true, but it's only half the sentence. The other half is harder to sit with: that newness was never just for you. What does it mean to believe that, so that you're transformed to be more like Jesus? Your new life in Christ calls you to be a minister of reconciliation and an ambassador for Christ, for the sake of others. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.08.23 | Nicholas Graham | The Northcoast Scoreboard
2026/08/25
Nick Graham brings a message that's specific enough to sting a little and honest enough to land well. Living on the Ballito coast means living somewhere with very visible measurements: where you live, what you drive, where your kids go to school, how you look, who you know. None of that is wrong, the problem is when those things quietly attach themselves to your identity and start telling you who you are. Using Saul's journey to Paul alongside his earlier message on Gideon, Nick traces two versions of the same problem: Gideon thought too little of himself, Saul thought too much, and both needed an encounter with Jesus before they could be any use to anyone. The phrase that stays with you is this: the enemy doesn't need to persuade you to abandon Christ, he only needs to persuade you that Christ isn't quite enough on his own. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.08.26 | Greg Nixon | I AM Series (Authority) - Pushing Back the Darkness
2026/08/16
Greg Nixon brings the third message on authority, and he lands it somewhere unexpected: not in the dramatic or the spectacular, but in the ordinary Tuesday afternoon. Building on Peter and John's encounter with a man who hadn't walked in forty years, he makes the case that the people around them didn't see two remarkable men, they saw Jesus. That's the point. Authority isn't something we manufacture or perform, it flows from simply having been with him. Greg is honest about his own tendency to wait for the big moment, and about a recent stretch where he was grumpy and depleted until the Holy Spirit nudged him to swap the podcasts for the audio Bible on his commute. What shifted wasn't dramatic. But it was real. The invitation this week is a small one: just one moment, get the word in you and see what God does with an ordinary day. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.08.09 | Alexander Venter | Part 2 : Authority - The Title Deeds of Earth
2026/08/14
Alexander returns with the second part of his message on authority, and this time he brings a story that makes the whole thing land differently. In ancient Israel, if your family fell into debt and lost their land, the nearest relative was obligated to come and pay what you owed and return what was yours. Alexander uses that image, the kinsman redeemer, to walk through the sweep of the Bible's story: what humanity gave away in Genesis 3, what Jesus came to buy back, and why Satan is, in Alexander's words, an illegal imposter who's still acting like he owns the place. From there he traces how Jesus exercised authority in the Gospels (over demons, sickness, sin, death, and storms), and why that same authority has been handed to the church. Practical, historical, and bigger in scope than most teaching on this topic. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.08.02 | Alexander Venter | I - A-M Series: Authority
2026/08/04
Alexander opens a new thread in the I Am series, shifting the conversation from identity to authority, and he starts somewhere most teaching on this topic doesn't: with a clear-eyed look at how badly authority has been misused, in homes, churches, governments, and workplaces, and why that matters for how we understand God's design. Working from Genesis through Daniel and into the Great Commission, he traces authority all the way back to creation: what God originally gave humanity, how it was surrendered in Genesis 3, and what Jesus actually accomplished in getting it back. It's a big-picture message that sets up next week's follow-on, but it lands with something personal: many of us are either carrying wounds from abused authority, or we've never really believed we have any. Both are worth bringing to God. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.07.25 | Ryan Matthews | Becoming What We Behold
2026/07/26
Ryan returns with a message that's simple on the surface but cuts deep: what you fix your gaze on is quietly shaping who you are. He opens with heliotropism (sunflowers tracking the sun across the sky) and builds from there, making the case that identity doesn't just come from what we believe about ourselves, it follows our vision. The crux: What is the "thing" is that is discipling us every single day? The news, social media, our wounds, our ambitions? Most of us haven't made a deliberate decision about what that thing is going to be. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 3, Paul's letter to the Corinthians, and a Puritan preacher's idea about "the expulsive power of new affection," Ryan lands on a straightforward but countercultural invitation: stop trying to modify your behavior from the outside in, and start beholding Jesus until becoming like Him is just what naturally happens. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.07.19 | Patrick Munsamy | The Father Loves Me
2026/07/25
Patrick picks up where Marilyn left off the week before, still in Luke 15, still with the prodigal son, but this time through the lens of a question the Father quietly asked him in his own devotional life: do you really know how much I love you? It's a message that's been brewing in him for months, and it's an honest one. He talks about growing up with a loving earthly father and still spending forty years only half-believing the Father's love was truly for him, not just for Jesus. Working through the parable slowly, he looks at both sons: the younger one who ran, and the older one who stayed but lived like a guest in his own home, slaving away without ever asking for what was already his. The invitation at the end is simple: come back home, and this time, actually believe it, receive it, and enjoy it. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.07.12 | Marilyn Duke | The Parable of the Prodigal Son
2026/07/18
Marilyn Duke is a gift to the Freedom House family, and in this message she brings the parable of the Prodigal Son to life through narrative preaching. But before she tells the story, she gives us something just as useful: a way of reading any parable. What is Jesus saying about himself? What question is he answering? Who is he talking to, and what would they have understood that we might miss? Then she turns it around. Because often, the parable doesn't just inform us, it reflects us. The characters Jesus draws have a way of holding up a mirror, and finding yourself in one of them is, as Marilyn puts it, an act of grace in itself. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus. 2026.07.05 | Ryan Matthews | A Spring not a Well
2026/07/08
In this message, Ryan explores Jesus' invitation to live not as empty wells that constantly need refilling, but as springs overflowing with the life of God. So often we approach our relationship with God from a place of striving or spiritual depletion, believing we must continually earn or recover what Christ has already given us. Yet the gospel reveals something far greater. Drawing from Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman in John 4, along with the promises of living water throughout Scripture, Ryan shows that the Holy Spirit is not merely an external source we repeatedly visit, but an ever-present spring flowing from within every believer. As we learn to live from our union with Christ rather than our own strength, we begin to experience the freedom, joy, and fruitfulness of His overflowing life. May this message encourage you to stop living from empty reserves and instead discover the unending life of Christ flowing within you - a spring, not a well.
2026.06.28 | Alexander Venter | Identity
2026/07/03
In this message, Alexander explores how Jesus' baptism reveals the foundation of every believer's identity. Before Jesus performed a single miracle or began His public ministry, the Father declared Him to be His beloved Son. This affirmation became the secure place from which Jesus lived, resisted temptation, and fulfilled His mission.  Drawing from Jesus' temptation in the wilderness, Alexander shows how the enemy continually seeks to redefine our identity through performance, people's approval, and material possessions. Yet Jesus refused every false source of significance because His identity was already secure in the Father's love. In the same way, we are not defined by what we do, what others think of us, or what we possess, but by who we are in Christ: God's deeply loved sons and daughters. As we learn to live from this place of belovedness, old labels lose their power, walls of division come down, and we begin to reflect the new humanity Jesus has created in Himself
2026.06.14 | Greg Nixon | I AM - Like Father, Like Son
2026/06/24
This Father's Day Greg brings a timely reminder that if you don't know what God looks like, you just need to look at His Son. Listen in for an exploration of what it actually means that God calls himself Father. Not a lofty theological title, but something deliberately familiar, the kind of word you'd use in a home. Working through the Gospels and into Paul's letters, Greg makes the case that to see Jesus is to see the Father, and that everything Jesus modelled on earth was the Father expressing himself through His Son. The invitation that flows from that is bigger than most of us have let ourselves believe: not just forgiveness, not just getting in the door, but being brought into the family as children, co-heirs, brothers and sisters of Jesus himself. Wherever this message finds you, we hope it draws you closer to God and deeper into life with Jesus.
