The wreckage of a light plane which crashed into the ocean off South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula coast has been recovered. The pilot, a 57-year-old Morphett Vale man, and two passengers, an 18-year-old Freeling man and a 19-year-old from Adelaide, all died when the single-engine plane crashed in the Long Bay area yesterday afternoon. The Transport Safety Bureau says it's investigating the cause. The New South Wales government has activated special powers related to major events, ahead of a visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog next week. Under the state's Major Events Act, police will have additional powers to separate and move on crowds across Sydney's CBD and eastern suburbs. Last week, police commissioner Mal Lanyon extended protest restrictions which will affect a planned protest against the visit on Monday night.   He says there'll be a massive policing presence. Communities along WA's north west coast are preparing as Tropical Cyclone Mitchell continues its path towards shore. The Category 2 system could strengthen to Category 3 level this afternoon, and currently sits around 150-kilometres north of Port Hedland. Mitchell is tipped to cross the coast on Sunday near the small town of Onslow.

Senior Constable Rebecca Stokes says police will prepare a report for the coroner. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a mosque in Pakistan that's claimed the lives of at least 31 people. The attack came as people gathered for Friday prayers at a Shia mosque in Islamabad. The Islamic State group posted an image it says is of the attacker, showing him holding a gun with his face covered and eyes blurred. More than 170 people were also wounded, after the gunman opened fire before detonating a suicide vest when he was confronted by security guards. Residents along W-A's Pilbara coast are bracing for tropical cyclone Mitchell amid predictions it could intensify to a category three system today before crossing the coast tomorrow. Mitchell is expected to bring rough conditions including wind gusts up to a 150 kilometres an hour, storm surges and heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. A warning zone has been established for 800 kilometres along in the Pilbara Coast between Tigray and Mingaloo.

Emergency services received reports of a Cessna crashing into the ocean at Long Bay near Goolwa South just before four-30 PM. All three men on board, including the pilot - a 57-year-old man -  as well as an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old were subsequently found dead. Police say the wreckage of the plane has been brought into shore. The Islamic State group is claiming responsibility for a suicide attack on a Shia mosque in the Pakistani capital Islamabad which left at least 31 people dead. More than 170 others were wounded when a gunman opened fire in the mosque before blowing himself up. It's the second major terror attack in Pakistan's capital in recent months. Police in Britain say they've searched two properties linked to the former UK ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, over his ties to the late paedophile Jeffery Epstein. The former business secretary has been accused of passing market sensitive government information to the convicted sex offender after the 2008 financial crisis. The allegations emerged after the release in the US last week of millions of documents related to Jeffery Epstein.

The White House says a staffer posted the video erroneously. That's despite press secretary Karoline Leavitt just hours ago saying that there was nothing offensive about the post. A suicide bomber has killed at least 31 people and wounded almost 170 others at a Shia mosque in Pakistan. Police say the bomber detonated the device after approaching the gates of the building in Islamabad. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. It's the second major terror attack in Pakistan's capital in recent months. Cyclone Mitchell is intensifying off the north of W-A with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting destructive wind gusts for the Pilbara coast later today. The cyclone is north of Port Hedland, and is expected to intensify into a category two system this afternoon as it moves southwest along the coast. Mitchell is forecast to make landfall over the Western Pilbara late on Sunday. The Bureau of Meteorology is warning residents to brace for heavy rain, destructive winds and potential flooding as the cyclone passes through the region. A major air and sea search is re-commencing this morning... for a fisherman whose empty boat was found adrift off the Gold Coast. Concerns were raised on Thursday night after the 44-year-old man failed to return to the Runaway Bay Marina. Authorities located his half cabin cruiser around 2 o clock yesterday morning, about 50 kilometres south east of the Gold Coast Seaway. Police say the missing man is an experienced game fisherman with extensive marine skills. And, the 2026 Winter Olympics have officially begun, with the opening ceremony taking place in Milan. Only five members of Australia's Winter Olympics team marched into Milan's San Siro stadium as the games opening ceremony began this morning. The majority of the team are over 200kms away in the alpine ski village of Livigno including flag bearers Jakara Anthony and Matt Graham.
