25 Years of Gold - Part 3 - Interview with Stuart Hayes (Gold tour co-choreographer and dancer)
2026/10/18
It is both a delight and a privilege to welcome Stuart Hayes as our very special guest on Glitter & Gold, as we continue our celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Steps’ Gold: Greatest Hits era. Alongside Paul Domaine, Stuart was co-choreographer on the Gold - Greatest Hits Tour, and he joins us to share his memories of working with Steps on this iconic production. We also look back on his time as one of the group’s key dancers across their arena tours, as well as his involvement in their music videos and live performances. And, of course, we couldn’t let Stuart go without revisiting his own shining moment as “Lisa’s Husband” during Never Get Over You on the Summer 2000 Arena Tour! Running across November and December 2001, the Gold - Greatest Hits Tour saw Steps perform 31 dates in a Steptacular celebration of the group’s success at the absolute height of their popularity. Stuart went on to be a key dancer and choreographer for some of pops biggest names in the 2000s including Hear'Say, Dannii Minogue, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Kylie Minogue, Take That and Boyzone. He is now the Vice Principal of NDC College in Durham, providing a space for the next generation of dancers and creatives. 25 Years of Gold - Part 2 - Gold & Words Are Not Enough (with Aron Baxter - Music Video Director)
2026/10/04
In Part 2 of our Gold 25th anniversary celebrations, we dive into the release of the album 'Gold' and the single 'Words Are Not Enough'. Little did we know this would end up being the groups last official single release for 11 years. We also chat to film maker Aron Baxter who directed the music video for 'Words Are Not Enough', bringing Steps to life in animated form. The Gold album went straight to Number 1 on the UK charts where it stayed for 3 non-consecutive weeks. In less than three months, it had sold over 900,000 copies to end up the 6th biggest album of 2001. Eventually going 4x Platinum, it has now surpassed sales of over 1.1 million copies. 9-6 / 25-15-21 / 3-18-1-3-11 / 20-8-9-19 / 3-15-4-5 / 13-1-11-5 / 19-21-18-5 / 20-15 / 12-5-1-22-5 / 21-19 / 1 / 5 / 19-20-1-18 / 18-5-22-9-5-23 / 1-14-4 / 6-15-12-12-15-23 / 21-19 / 15-14 / 1-12-12 / 19-15-3-9-1-12 / 13-5-4-9-1 / 16-12-1-20-6-15-18-13-19 Follow ‘Glitter & Gold: The Original Steps Podcast’: Instagram & TikTok: @glitterstepspod Scott: @scottlove87 Shane: @stepmeister Brad: @bradszmerling Email: [email protected] Logo & Brand Design: BvrlyCreative This podcast is recorded on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. 25 Years of Gold - Part 1 - Chain Reaction (with Steve Anderson & Stuart Hayes)
2026/09/06
We’re kicking off our Gold 25 celebrations with a special series of episodes marking 25 years of one of Steps’ most iconic eras and we’re starting with the song that launched it all, ‘Chain Reaction’. As we dive into the story of 'Chain Reaction', we’ll hear from the band’s Musical Director Steve Anderson, who co-wrote and produced the B-side, ‘Stop Me From Loving You’, and has reworked ‘Chain Reaction’ numerous times for Steps’ live shows over the past decade. We’re also joined by Stuart Hayes, who by the Gold era had become the group’s co-choreographer alongside Paul Domaine. Stuart was instrumental in creating one of the most iconic and gloriously camp performances of ‘Chain Reaction’ for the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. By the time Gold arrived, Steps had more than earned their victory lap. After four years of phenomenal success, they had racked up 12 consecutive Top 5 singles, won a BRIT Award for selling more than one million tickets across three arena tours, and most importantly, had amassed enough incredible songs to fill a Greatest Hits album! Andy Goldmark Interview - Writing for Steps “Buzzz”, “Happy Go Lucky”, “Mars & Venus” and more
2026/03/15
We're delighted to be joined by global hit songwriter and producer Andy Goldmark, who co-wrote four songs for Steps’ third studio album Buzz. Andy reminisces on being asked to A&R the album and his involvement in writing and producing "Buzzz", "Happy Go Lucky", "Mars & Venus" and "Wouldn’t Hurt So Bad", and what it was like working with the band during the early 2000s. He also reveals which track he wanted a certain American rapper on as a feature artist to help launch them into the American market. We also touch on his incredible career, from discovering Jennifer Paige and her global hit "Crush" to becoming Vice President of A&R at Jive Records. Chris Melvin Interview - The Story Behind The Steptoons
2026/02/11
The Steptoons may have only played a small role in the Steps history books, but we’ve always wondered about the story behind their creation, and who was responsible for bringing them to life. Chris Melvin was the man behind the project, and the story of how he ended up working for Jive and creating the Steptoons is a fascinating chain of events. A chance meeting with the band on the set of the American One for Sorrow music video quite literally changed the course of his career. Why were they made? Was a TV cartoon in the works? A comic book? In this episode, we finally get all the answers. Steps 'Summer 2000 Arena Tour' (2000) – Concert Rewatch
2025/12/03
Ooo Ooo!! The tour rewatch continues as we look back at the Summer 2000 Arena Tour - a massive step up from the previous year’s Next Step Tour. No space buggies or rocket ships this time; instead, we’re treated to a Gothic City set, with the band determined to prove they’d grown up and earned their status as the best-selling British live act. The tour ran for 31 dates, including a special June 10th show at Wembley for 1,000 lucky competition winners. That performance was recorded for VHS and released to coincide with their third album, Buzz. Following the tour’s success in May, five additional open-air shows were added with the same set list, bringing the total to 36 - their longest to date. There’s so much to unpack in this show: H’s iconic performance of Lay All Your Love On Me (serving acrobatics Pink could only dream of), Faye and Lee teasing solo tracks that still haven’t seen the light of day (release R Dancing from the vaults please), and of course, the debut of the infamous Steptoons. Steps 'The Next Step Tour' (1999) - Concert Rewatch
2025/09/07
GO STEPS, GO STEPS!!! Strap into the Steps space buggy and blast off with us to the glittering world of 1999, as we relive one of the most iconic pop arena tours the UK has ever seen. We take a nostalgic deep dive into The Next Step Tour, the Steptacular arena tour that didn’t just break records - it redefined what a pop concert could be. With its ground breaking staging, high-octane dance routines, and wall-to-wall hits, the tour transformed arenas into dance floors night after night. Drawing over 350,000 fans across 33 sold-out shows, The Next Step Tour earned its place in UK music history as the biggest pop tour of all time. It helped cement Steps' reputation as a live powerhouse - and earned them the BRIT Award for Best Selling Live Act of 1999. From Scotts personal memories of seeing the concert IRL, to the lasting impact it had on Shane and Brad (it was the perfect way to learn those dance routines), we rewatch a tour that laid the foundation for the group’s legacy as one of pop’s most beloved live acts. Tony Moran Interview – The Story Behind the Steps ‘One For Sorrow’ Remix
2025/04/21
Steppers, this is a BIG one. THE Tony Moran, responsible for the 'One For Sorrow (Tony Moran Remix)' and who Billboard ranked as one of the most successful dance artists of ALL TIME is our very special guest on Glitter & Gold. For the first time since he created the remix back in 1999 (to coincide with the launch of Steps in America) Tony tells us about how the opportunity to remix the track came to be and the legacy his mix has 27 years on. No one has ever spoken to him specifically about this before so it was an absolute privilege to hear his story and his memories from this time. Eager Pop fans will know Tony was also responsible for producing Martine McCutcheon's debut album (he cowrote 'Perfect Moment - UK #1 Single) so you best believe we made sure to ask him about this as well.
