Advertise on podcast: No Guts, No Glory: the Berserk Podcast

More iconic Berserk moments in this chunk of chapters (after a long hiatus - sorry!), including the official - and miraculous! - return of Griffith to Midland…where he immediately claims military, royal, and religious supremacy thanks to Princess Charlotte, the Pontiff of the Holy See, and the confirmation that he is the prophesied “White Hawk” who will be the savior of the people of Midland. Roderick’s iconic boat makes its first real appearance as well, and Gus-Gus and our zerky crew will be seafaring for a good long while now, with Guts healing, Farnesse and Schierke going astral together, and Isidro getting hit in the balls by Azan. The Human Bullet chapter offers one of the most iconic scenes in the entirety of Berserk, with ol’ Guts himself riding Zodd whole hog for one sole purpose: to penetrate the ethereal body of dread Emperor Ganeshka. It’s awesome, and so is the eventual showdown between Griffith and Ganeshka after a surprise sneak attack on the Kushan by the brand new Band of the Hawk!

Daiba is just tryin’ to Thrive-a in these chapters, as he battles Guts and Serpico with the might of even more ancient Eastern Magic: namely water tornados, makaras, and a giant ethereal Kundalini snake that’s essentially a god. Schierke helps Guts to finally exist half in and half out of the Berserker Armor; but, as Daiba ask him: will he be able to use it to its fullest potential without the “power of madness” on his side? These chapters have some amazing action, with the team up between Guts, Schierke and Serpico at its peak. However, there IS a war raging on between the Kushan, Vritannis…and The Band of the Hawk, and by the end of our episode, a swarm of The Godhand’s apostles and dread emperor Ganeshka are battling it out for evil supremacy over Midland. These chaps are action PACKED!!! (Chaps means “chapters” of course). Guts and crew are in perfect sync as a classic fantasy JRPG party, fulfilling their roles perfectly as they battle hundreds of the Kushan’s “daka” soldiers, more enchanted tigers, and a dozen or so of the elephant snouted “Makara” from previous chapters. But…when the going gets really tough, will Schierke be able to bring Guts back from the brink of Berserking on everyone in the Berserk-verse when his Berserker Armor takes over his mind and makes him even more Berserk-ee than his normall Berserk levels???!!!! These chapters are all about gettin’ the band back together! Serpico (more like SLURP-ico back in his magical wind-powered regalia!) and Guts save a bunch of foppish aristocrats (including Farnesse, Magnifico and Roderick) from the Kushan’s enchanted tigers…but after this tiny taste of the coming battle…the real war begins, and our heroes need to GTFO and set sail to Puck’s homeland! Serpico returns…but he returns to fight Guts to the death?!! Plus, a foggy four-legged assassin is released into the Vandimion manor containing all of the Midland elites…can Guts and his crew stop the mayhem before it reaches the now-betrothed Farnesse?! This chunka’chapters is all about old Loch-Nessy herself: Farnesse! Huge character arc movement here, as she reunites with her toxic rich a*****e father, and her slightly less toxic and slightly more supportive Mommy and brother, Magnifico. Plus, there’s wedding bells on the horizon!!! These chapters focus largely on Schierke, Isidro, and their counterparts in the new Band of the Hawk: annoying psychic girl Sonia, and mildly annoying (and boring!) knight, Mule. The art is amazing, detailed and busy - just like the events of the plot AND the character development and world building at play. It’s a fun read, even if it all made our brains a little tired after trying to follow the billions of small panels and billions of instances of dialogue. Ultimately, Miura is introducing the cliche’d (for good reason) concept that both sides of any war feel as they they are doing things for the betterment of the world; or, at least, their leader is on their behalf. Plus, Schierke unlocks a new DLC skin: “scullery maid.” Follow No Guts, No Glory on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nogutsnoglorypc/ Check out Joey and Ryan’s Renaissance Martial Arts organization: https://www.thearma.org/ Check out Steve and Joey’s other podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/probing-ancient-aliens/id1321801647 https://open.spotify.com/show/3aREEXpe4DE37LsNkUxntW Check out Steve and Joey’s Patreon for that other podcast: https://www.patreon.com/probingancientaliens

We’re back from our longest hiatus ever - sorry about that. Holidays, birthdays, being first time parents, and the death of a beloved pet kept Joey playing the role of a podcast-cancelling fool every week, and we really appreciate your patience! Guts battles an elephant-whale like sea beast, succumbs to the Berserker Armor AGAIN (big surprise) and the crew enter the most bustling city ever as the entirety of Midland prepares for war with the Kushan. The boys are back in town! And the girls, and the pixies. And Skull Knight. And some Crocodiles. And some Dhalsim’s from Street Fighter. And a moonlight boy who is wearing no clothes. We’re back too!!! These chapters have everything: a new hope and goal for our intrepid crew, huge lore drops about the Berserker Armor and Skull Knight, and a new mystery that almost literally falls in Casca’s lap. Just a quick message to let you all know we'll be strugglin' down with y'all this Friday after two weeks of unforeseen cancellations - thanks for being patient with us!

This episode we trade Guts for Ganishka, focusing on a major battle between Griffith's demon knights (led by the ridiculously stupidly designed Locus in his apostle mode), which ultimately is a diversion for a certain demi-god to kidnap a certain princess. In the process however, we learn more about Ganishka and his own inhumanity and level of power. Like Guts' dong likely is...IT'S BIG.

All you need to know again (two weeks in a row - a first!) is Wolverine from Marvel vs. Capcom saying “BERSERKER (armor) BARRAGE! …BERSERKER (armor) BARRAGE!” over and over for this episode, as we close out the introduction to Guts’ fabled cursed armor. Schierke really defines her main role in the series with the help of Flora’s fiery force ghost, and we head back to oooooool’ Windham to see that it’s been taken over by Kushan…with almost every citizen murdered and hanged from the ramparts. Guts gets the f**king Berserker Armor - and that's all you need to know.

Things get even darker, wetter, and more horrifying as our intrepid crew delve deeper into Qliphoth. Farnesse and Isidro gain some much needed confidence thanks to our old pal McGuts the Crime Struggler (80s kids will understand that obscure reference…maybe), and some very powerful beings emerge to both help and hinder our heroes: Slan, Skull Knight, and the essence of Darkness itself!
