In today's Daily Fix:Phantom Blade Zero has sold 4 million (!) copies in just three days, and it's a sure bet we've seen the birth of a new franchise. Although it's a far cry from fellow Chinese-developed game with Eastern influence Black Myth: Wukong, which sold 10 million (!!) in three days, it's still a fantastic start to a game that is also resonating with critics. In other news, Nintendo has revealed the development team behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake: Entertainment Planning & Development Production Group No. 3. While not exactly a household name, they've been behind every major Zelda game for the past 30 years, so the remake is in good hands. And we’ve got a peek at the five immersive worlds of the all-new Universal Epic Universe, and one of its featured attractions – Stardust Racers, all at Universal Orlando Resort. In today's Daily Fix:A new report from Bloomberg claims EA had to choose between Star Wars and Mass Effect, which resulted in the closure of BioWare. EA is facing financial pressure due to the $18 billion debt it took on during the Saudi buyout. The company then only had enough budget to back one big sci-fi game, and they chose Star Wars Battlefront 3 as the safer bet. In other news, Gears of War: E-Day has moved only 400,000 copies across Xbox and PC, a relatively low number for a marquee franchise. The Verge is reporting that Game Pass is the cause of low sales, as the game was a Day One launch title for the service. And finally, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting a New Game Plus update six years after the game first dropped. Ubisoft says more updates are planned.

In today's Daily Fix:Some leaked info surrounding The Elder Scrolls 6 has popped up again, and The Verge is reporting that an official reveal could be around the corner, possibly November. A leaked, but unverified, title was floating around not too long ago, suggesting the official name for the game is The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, and The Verge is sticking by that name. The setting for the game is also heavily rumored to be Hammerfell. In other news, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma insists that Series X and S sales are being constrained by their availability...yeah sure. A quick glance at any major retailer's website shows the Xbox Series X and S and their many variants are in stock (except of course for some of the limited edition models). And finally, Phantom Blade Zero is a hit for Chinese game studio S-GAME. The game debuted to the number two spot on Steam's most-played list, with around 723,000 concurrents.

In today's Daily Fix:Phantom Blade Zero has sold around one million pre-launch copies worldwide. This comes from Alinea Analytics, who says that S-GAME's wuxia-inspired action game has sold 850,000 copies in the West on Steam and PS5, and another quarter million from Tencent's WeGame (a Chinese-only digital storefront). The game is reviewing well, too, with IGN scoring it a 9. In other news, PlayStation has revealed their PS Plus lineup for November, which includes Dead Island 2, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, and Monster Train 2. The horror movie based on the DC character brought in around $43 million worldwide, enough for the top spot at the weekend box office. The modest budget of around $40 million also helped the movie's bottom line. In other news, composer Austin Wintory revealed he was in talks with BioWare to create music the now-canceled Mass Effect 5. He has shared drafts of music for the game online. In today's Daily Fix:Arkane Lyon is still plugging away at Marvel's Blade, but the studio may be on the chopping block if Microsoft can't find a buyer for the studio by the end of the year. Microsoft is also looking for a partner to "support" the development of the game as it nears completion. That support could be in extra financing for the studio. Marvel's Blade doesn't have a firm release date but it is expected to be out sometime next year. In other news, a hacker has claimed a $50,000 bounty from Sony for reporting an exploit, but has now drawn the ire of others in the PS5 homebrew scene. By reporting the bug, he apparently has wasted months of work by the homebrew community in getting Linux to run on the PS5.

In today's Daily Fix:The internet is still mourning the sudden loss of legendary video game studio BioWare, but an industry analyst says the writing was on the wall years ago, even before EA's controversial acquisition by an investment group led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. In related news, a content creator who was on BioWare's "Mass Effect Council" has dropped details on the cancelled Mass Effect Universe.

In today's Daily Fix:Xbox is testing some of its Game Pass features under new plans via Xbox Insider. Members can now pay to use the cloud streaming service separately from a Game Pass plan by buying blocks of time. Previously, this feature was locked behind the Game Pass Ultimate tier, but now you can pay as little as $3.99 for 10 hours of streaming over the cloud, all the way to $11.99 for 50 hours. Your hours don't expire so they can roll over day-to-day. In other news, Dispatch is celebrating its 1st anniversary with new like a commentary track and storyboard mode coming to the deluxe edition. There is also a live music concert planned in Hollywood, and more merch such as a three-record vinyl set, shirts, hoodies, and more. In today's Daily Fix:Legendary studio BioWare is being shut down, as mass layoffs hit owner Electronic Arts. Around fifty employees at BioWare are being let go, with the rest presumably moved to different teams. As a result, the next Mass Effect game that was teased years ago has been canceled. And in other news, a new report from Bloomberg suggests the new Xbox Project Helix console could cost as much as $1,800 if Microsoft decides to not subsidize or eat the cost of some of the components. The console could launch in 2028, with a new handheld to precede it in 2027.

In today's Daily Fix:Xbox Business Strategist Brandon Stirrup caused a firestorm on Twitter recently, admitting that he used AI to create a "little bad game" all on his own. This was to prove his point that AI tools are more widely used in the video game industry than it lets on, considering how anti-AI the gaming public tends to be. Stirrup's hope is that the industry will get over the stigma of AI and just admit that it's now part of the development workflow. Of course, comments weren't necessarily kind to him, and he deleted his Twitter account shortly after, but not before the internet screengrabbed his tweets and plastered them all over Reddit. But he's not necessarily wrong—Unreal Engine has AI tools built in, and Epic Games is coding their new Star Wars shooter solely with AI. Speaking of Star Wars, Lucasfilm is rumored to be approaching several studios to work on Battlefront 3, with DICE, Respawn, and Bungie being the supposed frontrunners. In today's Daily Fix:A leaker has suggested the price of just the RAM and storage for the PlayStation 6 could cost about as much as a PS5. The RAMpocalypse likely will not let up when the next generaiton of gaming consoles goes into production, with the leaker saying that the current PS6 configuration will likely cost $680 or more just for flash memory and RAM, which will very likely put the whole console's MSRP well aboe $1,000. In other news, Quentin Tarantino has confirmed his plans to exit filmmaking after he completes his unannounced 10th film. But he has other plans before making that one, such as his upcoming West End play, The Pipinjay Cavalier starring Sacha Baron Cohen, and the follow-up to Once Upong a Time...In Hollywood that is directed by David Fincher. In today's Daily Fix:Ken Kutaragi, the "Father of PlayStation," is backing Sony in their move to kill physical game discs. Sony made the announcement earlier this year, but won't go into effect for another few years. Kutaragi said he understands gamers' feelings about the issue, but that it wasn't "economically reasonable" to keep producing physical media anymore, at least not for PlayStation. He chalked it up to gamers' "mentality" around video game ownership. In related news, Congressman Ritchie Torres is introducing a bill that will establish regulations around digital ownership. The congressman said customers do have the right to own, play, and transfer the games they buy. And finally, production on The Batman Part 2 is set to restart now that WB has revealed Steven Soderbergh as a replacement director. Original director Matt Reeves had to step down due to a personal matter, but will return to finish post-production on the movie.

In today's Daily Fix:Rockstar Games is saying their next game won't take as long to make as GTA 6. While the exact length of time GTA 6 has been in development is unknown, it has been about eight years since the last Rockstar-developed game: Red Dead Redemption 2. That game was released in 2018. In other news, Nintendo has confirmed all the Zelda amiibo you've probably spent hundreds of dollars on the past decade or so will work with the Ocarina of Time remake. The exact abilities they have are unknown, the two new amiibo of young Link and young Zelda will grant you new masks. And finally, October's PlayStation Plus games will be headlined by Mafia: The Old Country.

In today's Daily Fix:GamesBeat is reporting that Grand Theft Auto 6's PC release could be as soon as Q1 2027, which would start around April of next year. If true, that would mean GTA 6 on PC would launch only five months after the PS5 and Xbox versions. In other news, Sony has revealed the God of War: Laufey collector's edition. For $150, you get a statue, some fortune-telling cards, and a few other trinkets...but no game. This appears to be a trend with big Triple-A games to not include even a digital download with expensive collector's sets (ahem, GTA 6's $400 collector's edition). And speaking of collector's editions, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is getting a $300 collector's edition, and yes, you're getting the movie on 4K, Blu-ray, and digital download. That set has already sold out.
