Kelly Demo, they unpack what the Episcopal Church teaches (and doesn’t teach) about the afterlife, judgment, salvation, and what it all means for how we live today.   About the Hosts The Rev. Clare Stern-Burbano (she/her) The Rev. Clare Stern-Burbano (she/her) is the curate for Campus Ministry at Kansas State University and the Associate for college, youth, and children’s ministry at a parish in Kansas City, MO and graduate from the Univ. of Dubuque Theological Seminary (MDiv.) and from Bishop Kemper School for Ministry (Anglican Studies). He is passionate about making the Episcopal Church accessible to young people who, like himself, might not have grown up in the tradition. Riley lives with his wife, Noah, and their two cats, Punchy and Teddy. He enjoys reading and playing games with his friends.      Guest:  The Rev. Kelly Demo (she/her) is the Associate Rector at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Overland Park, Kansas. During her 29 years of ordained ministry much of Kelly's work has focused on both youth and their spiritual development, and matters of social justice and poverty. Outside the church Rev. Demo worked for ten years with international aid organizations. She created and published a Scripture based retreat for youth called Miqra which is used in many dioceses around the country. She is currently developing a curriculum that helps older teens discover their gifts and God-given passions so they might serve the Kingdom and has authored two books. Kelly is married to The Rev. Gar Demo. They have two grown children, a dog, and a cat she never knew she needed.   Relevant links: Suggestions and Comments for the Co-hosts? Bonus Episode: Saved from What? Saved for What?: Grace and Salvation in the Episcopal Church
2025/06/05
In this episode… In this episode, we’re breaking down two churchy words that carry a lot of weight: grace and salvation. What do they really mean—and more importantly, what do they mean for your actual, everyday life?  We explore these big ideas through the Episcopal lens, where grace is God's unconditional love, freely given, and salvation is about becoming whole—starting now, not just later. Joining us is Fr. Ryan Williams, one of the newer priests in the Diocese of West Missouri and a behind-the-scenes worker bee on this very podcast. We talk about his journey into the “wonderfully weird and holy chaos” of the Episcopal Church, plus what grace has looked like in his life and ministry. ✨ Questions we’re asking: What even is grace? Is salvation just about the afterlife—or something more? How can we unpack these words in a way that actually helps, not harms? Along the way, you'll hear stories, laughter, maybe a weird fact or two, and most importantly, a reminder that grace meets you exactly where you are. About the Hosts Clare Stern-Burbano (she/her) is a member of the laity and currently a college, youth, and children’s minister at a parish in Kansas City, MO and third-year seminarian at Univ. of Dubuque Theological Seminary and a candidate for Anglican Studies at Bishop Kemper School for Ministry. She hopes of one day becoming an Episcopal priest and is discerning in the Diocese of Kansas. Clare comes from an interfaith family and found a spiritual home in the Episcopal Church when she was nine years old.  Guest Bio:  The Rev. Ryan Williams  is the rector at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Joplin, MO.  In a previous life, he was an organic vegetable farmer and Baptist pastor.  In a previous life, he worked in student leadership and development at the university level.  He continues to have a passion for exploring the big questions of life and faith with people of all ages, but particularly students and young adults.  Ryan lives with his wife, Anna, their two kids, John Mark and Eleanor, and their dog, Scout.  When he isn’t taking Scout for runs or enjoying downtime with family, you can find Ryan rooting for the Milwaukee Bucks (basketball) and continually on the search for the perfect pizza dough recipe.  Relevant links: Suggestions and Comments for the Co-hosts? A Very Episcopate Conversation: Introducing the newest bishop in the Episcopal Church, Rt. Rev. Amy Dafler Meaux, IX Bishop of W. MO
2025/05/15
In this episode… we have a fun, heartfelt, and inspiring conversation with the newest bishop in the Episcopal Church — The Rt. Rev. Amy Dafler Meaux, IX Bishop of Western Missouri!  We dive into Bishop Amy’s incredible call story, her passion for ministry with children and youth, and her surprising hobbies — from knitting and video games (yes, she loves The Sims and Mario Party!). She even shares her wish for better broadcast sound in women’s cycling — how cool is that?  But that’s not all — Bishop Amy answers a mix of silly, thoughtful, and theological questions submitted by children, youth, young adults, clergy, and staff across the Dioceses of Western Missouri and Kansas. It’s personal. It’s joyful.
