Finding Balance in Life: Sleep, Stillness and Wellness With Ray Schloss
2026/10/14
Somewhere between your morning coffee and your last scroll of the night, you probably promised yourself you would take better care of you. Then the day happened. What if the answer is not a strict routine or a rigid regimen, but a gentler way of listening to your own body and mind? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Sana talks with Ray Schloss, a wellness coach, certified hypnotherapist, meditation music producer and founder of Thriving 247, about balance as a lifelong practice and not a finish line. Ray shares his image of life as a wheel with many spokes, why caring for yourself first is not selfish, and why he believes better sleep is the simplest and least expensive place to start. He talks about darkness and light, the cultural habit of boasting about sleeping less, and how meditation can begin with just thirty seconds of stillness. Sana adds her own story of losing her sleep rhythm to burnout. Together they offer small, practical steps and permission to go at your own pace. About the Guest: Ray Schloss is the founder of Thriving 247, a wellness and life coaching practice. He spent 17 years at Microsoft empowering global sales teams before retiring in 2024. He has explored wellness for more than a decade through biohacking and longevity research, yoga and meditation, and he is a certified hypnotherapist, public speaker and professional music producer whose meditation compositions are used by organizations including the Monroe Institute and BrainTap. Ray shares from his own experience and perspective, and his views here are not medical advice. Key Takeaways: Ray describes balance as a wheel with spokes for health, relationships, spirit and mind. If one spoke is too long or too short, the wheel does not roll smoothly. Balance is a lifelong practice, not a finish line. Start small and trust your own pace. Like the oxygen mask on an airplane, looking after your own wellness first is what allows you to show up for others, including your children. Ray invites listeners to notice how much time they spend scrolling, and to ask whether a small piece of that time could be set aside for themselves. In Ray’s experience, sleep is the foundation. He suggests that if sleep is off, many other goals are harder to reach. A simple, low-cost step: make your bedroom as dark as you can. Ray notes that light reaching your eyes and skin can affect your body’s natural rhythm, and suggests a simple sleep mask or blackout curtains. Ray shares that years ago a doctor told him to sleep more, and that his symptoms eased within days. His story is personal, and anyone with concerns should speak with a qualified health professional. Sana and Ray discuss how pushing through on little sleep is often treated as a badge of honor, and how rest can make the next day easier and more productive. On longevity, Ray believes inner happiness and life satisfaction matter as much as any habit or tool, and that a sense of peace and self-worth supports well-being. Meditation does not mean stopping your thoughts. Ray suggests starting with stillness for 30 seconds, then slowly building up as the mental noise settles. Be kind to yourself as you learn. Meditation, like yoga, is a practice that takes time. How to Overcome Self-Doubt: Doubt as a Signal With Martin J. Watts
2026/10/14
You know that moment when you are about to make a decision and suddenly you hesitate? Most of us were taught to push through that feeling, stop second guessing and just be more confident. But what if that hesitation is not a weakness? What if doubt is telling us that something has changed, and that we need to pay attention before we move forward? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Swati talks with Martin J. Watts, an entrepreneur, patented inventor and author of When Doubt Becomes Design, about reading doubt as a signal instead of a setback. Martin shares his Law of Doubt, including the four anchors of instability that set doubt in motion and the four signatures of doubt that show what it is really asking. Through everyday examples like a delayed text, a delayed bank loan and a surprise promotion, he explains why doubt usually points to a situation that needs attention, not to something being wrong with you. He also shares a little of his own story, a simple way to respond to doubt with action, and why reaching outside yourself for help can break an old pattern. About the Guest: Martin J. Watts is an entrepreneur, builder, patented inventor, speaker and author with more than 40 years of experience building businesses and leading through uncertainty. His book, When Doubt Becomes Design, is a narrative memoir made up of 41 personal stories about uncertainty, rebuilding and starting over. Martin shares from his own experience and perspective, and his views here are not clinical or professional advice. Key Takeaways: Martin sees doubt as a signal, not an enemy. He calls it the universal language of critical thinking, and says it asks a question that wants an answer. A common mistake is to apply doubt to ourselves as a whole. In Martin’s view, you are not broken. The situation is what feels unstable. When we stay in doubt, we tend to feed it with more doubt, fear and anxiety. Answering the question doubt is asking helps us move forward. Martin’s Law of Doubt names four anchors of instability: pending decisions, unresolved tension, perception and comparison, and uncertain outcomes. He also names four signatures of doubt: moral doubt (my values), emotional doubt (can I trust the people around me), intellectual doubt (am I qualified), and self-doubt. A slow reply to a text or one weak sales month can quickly turn into doubt about a whole relationship or business. Pausing to ask what is actually going on can restore perspective. Intellectual doubt can be answered with facts, such as your experience, your track record and the trust someone has already placed in you. Martin’s simple process: remind yourself that you are not broken, find the anchor, name the signature of doubt, then build a response the situation actually needs. Acting on something you are good at can help you move through doubt. Martin shares that creative work helped him as a young person. To avoid falling back into old thought patterns, try something new. Martin suggests asking people who have been through it how they got through, instead of looking for people who simply agree with you. Martin’s closing advice: do not think you are broken, find something outside yourself to help you balance, and do not doubt your abilities. Connect With Martin J. Sexual Wellness and Mental Health: Reconnecting With Eyal Matsliah
2026/10/14
We talk about exercise, nutrition, sleep and stress. But there is another part of well-being that often gets pushed into the background: our relationship with pleasure, intimacy and our own bodies. What if reconnecting with that part of ourselves is not only about pleasure, but also about self-trust, healing and feeling more at home in our own skin? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Swathi talks with Eyal Matsliah, a sex and life coach and author of Orgasm Unleashed, about how sexuality and mental well-being are connected. Eyal shares why so many people keep sexuality in a separate box, how silence and misinformation shape our attitudes across cultures, and what he means by sexual empowerment. He walks through a five-step approach (reflect, learn, embody and more), explains how better self-awareness and communication can strengthen a relationship, and offers gentle guidance for the moments when old patterns, shame or difficult memories resurface. This is a mature conversation, shared respectfully and without graphic detail. About the Guest: Eyal Matsliah is a sex and life coach and the author of Orgasm Unleashed: Your Guide to Pleasure, Healing and Personal Power. He has worked in sexuality, relationships and personal empowerment since 2009. He shares free articles, videos and programs for men, women and couples through his website, Intimate Power. Eyal speaks from his own experience and coaching perspective, and his views here are not medical, psychological or sexual health advice. Key Takeaways: Eyal notes that many people feel their life is going well, yet keep sexuality in a box. In his experience, concerns in that area can quietly touch confidence, relationships, work and well-being. We talk openly about mental health but still find intimacy hard to discuss. Eyal asks a question worth sitting with: are we more sexually suppressed than we realize? He sees silence, shame and misinformation as a worldwide issue, not one limited to any single country or culture. Eyal describes sexual empowerment as part of personal empowerment: knowledge, communication, body awareness and less fear, shame and guilt. Signs that this area of life may be affecting you can show up elsewhere, such as confidence, speaking up, energy and how you see your own body. Feeling less desire is common, and levels of interest vary from person to person. Eyal suggests getting curious about fear, triggers and unmet needs before assuming something is wrong with you. Eyal’s five-step approach starts with reflection. Ask yourself what you actually feel about your body, pleasure, intimacy and relationships. Learning and practice come next. Eyal encourages gentle, slow, goal-free attention to your own body, rather than rushing toward a result. In a relationship, knowing your own body and being able to say yes, no and what you would like instead can improve both intimacy and everyday communication. Eyal calls this invitation, not only consent. Eyal suggests couples try conscious, unhurried time together with eye contact, appreciation and clear requests, with no pressure to go further. When old patterns, shame or memories come up, Eyal suggests journaling, talking honestly with your partner, staying at the edge of your comfort zone, and reaching out to a qualified body-based or somatic professional. Simple nervous system regulation, such as a deep breath followed by a slow, audible release, can help you settle before anything else. Workplace Dignity and Leadership: Why People Matter With Todd Krause
2026/10/13
When a business struggles, we usually look at the numbers first. People are leaving, mistakes keep happening, profits are not where they should be. So leaders try new systems, change the process, or look for ways to motivate their teams. But what if the problem is not always the work itself? What if it has something to do with how people feel while they are doing it? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Swathi talks with Todd Krause, a TEDx speaker, author, and founder of Silversun Consulting, about dignity at work. Todd shares why he sees a gap between how leaders think they treat people and how workers actually feel, and why people will stay in lower-paying jobs for years when they feel valued. He explains the difference between managing and leading, and between compliance and commitment. He talks about signs that dignity may be missing, such as turnover, complaints, and rework, how leaders can communicate differently when pressure is high, and why the hardest moments are the ones that test how we treat people. About the Guest: Todd A. Krause is the founder of Silversun Consulting, a TEDx speaker, author, and business leader with more than forty years of leadership experience, from large organizations to small franchises. He is a CPA and MBA. His website describes how, after buying a struggling cleaning company, he grew its revenue from about $1.6 million to more than $4 million by putting people first. Todd shares from his own experience and perspective, and his views here are not professional business, legal, or clinical advice. Key Takeaways: There is often a gap between what leaders believe is happening and what workers experience. Many workers say they do not feel seen, heard, or valued. Todd notes that people often stay in lower-paying jobs for years when their ideas are put into action and leaders see them as whole people. We do not hire part of a person. People bring family, health, car trouble, and the need for time off. Expecting work no matter what leads to burnout. Managers make sure things are done to a schedule. Leadership, Todd says, is getting things done through other people and bringing together their ideas. There are two levels of performance: compliance (doing what I have to do to keep my job) and commitment (bringing my heart to work). The difference can be small but significant. Constant pressure to cut costs and go faster can push a business into a race to the bottom, where service suffers. Signs worth watching: staff turnover compared with your industry, customer complaints, and rework. A practical start: make clear what the organization promises its customers, connect each role to that promise, and ask for the result with please instead of only saying what not to do. Short staffing is different when it is temporary versus a business model. Todd suggests being honest about hiring, asking for patience, and rewarding people who step in. Under stress, avoid reverting to old habits. Breathe, pause, and say less rather than more, so you are not left in damage control. A question to ask yourself: do people feel like they matter here? Calm Parenting During Meltdowns: Regulate First With Dr. Michal Regev
2026/10/13
You know that moment when your child is in full meltdown mode and you can feel your whole body tighten? Your jaw clenches, and your voice starts rising to match theirs. We tell ourselves to stay calm and be the adult. But sometimes the hardest part is not what is happening with your child. It is what is happening inside you. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Sreemedha talks with Dr. Michal Regev, a registered psychologist and marriage and family therapist, about steadying yourself so hard moments can end in connection instead of shame. Dr. Regev explains why a child’s meltdown can feel like an alarm in a parent’s body, why children are so sensitive to the mood and conflict around them, and how co-regulation helps a child learn to calm down. She shares a scene from a pumpkin patch with her grandchildren, why self-care is the responsible thing to do, and her new children’s book, Anjulie’s Worst Day Ever, about a girl whose picnic is rained out. About the Guest: Dr. Michal Regev is a registered psychologist and registered marriage and family therapist in Vancouver, British Columbia, with a private practice for individuals, couples, and families. She has worked for many years with the Reproductive Mental Health Program at BC Women’s Hospital, supporting parents through pregnancy and postpartum, and has served as a court-appointed expert in family law matters. She is also a mother and grandmother and the author of the children’s book Anjulie’s Worst Day Ever. Dr. Regev shares from her own experience and perspective, and her views here are not clinical advice. Key Takeaways: A child’s meltdown can sound like an alarm, and Dr. Regev explains that it is meant to. Parents can feel the same rush of stress in their body, even though they know the situation is safe. Children depend on adults, so they are very sensitive to the mood and conflict around them. Dr. Regev notes that tension at home can show up as tantrums, sleep trouble, or worry. Co-regulation means lending a child your calmer nervous system. Children’s brains are still developing the part that helps them calm down and keep perspective. A low voice, slow words, a gentle touch, and a short explanation can help more than a lot of talking. Over time, repeated co-regulation helps a child learn to self-regulate. Dr. Regev suggests seeing a tantrum as how a child’s brain works under stress, not as bad behavior or a difficult child. Hunger, tiredness, and overstimulation can trigger meltdowns even in a lovely place, like a pumpkin patch. It is not ingratitude. Regulating yourself first is not selfish. Like the oxygen mask on an airplane, self-care is the responsible thing to do when others depend on you. Take a breath, inhale, exhale slowly, ground yourself, and remind yourself that your child is not doing this to make your life hard. Understanding what is happening in your body is the first step in working with stress, anxiety, and panic. Hair Loss and Identity: The Emotional Side With Dr. Niranjan Shintre
2026/10/13
We talk about confidence and self-care, but how often do we talk about the quiet distress of losing part of how we have always seen ourselves? For many people, hair loss is not just a cosmetic concern. It touches identity, culture, and the way we feel when we look in the mirror. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik talks with Dr. Niranjan Shintre, a board-certified surgeon and hair transplant physician at Maxim Hair Restoration, about the emotional side of hair loss. Dr. Shintre explains why he sees hair loss as a loss of identity, not only vanity, and why so many people quietly ignore it or hide it behind hats and photo avoidance. He shares his own story of noticing his hair thinning in his late thirties and early forties, and how the right support at home helped him take care of himself. He also talks about why he starts consultations with listening, how expectations shape the options, and why he encourages people to educate themselves early instead of waiting. About the Guest: Dr. Niranjan Shintre is a board-certified surgeon and hair transplant physician at Maxim Hair Restoration in Boca Raton, Florida, a national hair restoration brand. His practice focuses on hair transplantation and non-surgical hair restoration, and he brings a personal perspective as someone who has experienced hair loss himself. Dr. Shintre shares from his own experience and perspective, and his views here are not medical advice. Key Takeaways: Hair is part of how we describe ourselves and how others describe us, including color, texture, and style. Dr. Shintre calls losing it a loss of identity, not only of vanity. Hair carries cultural and ethnic meaning too. Losing it in your thirties, forties, or fifties can feel like losing a piece of yourself. Many people notice thinning and push it aside as a normal part of aging. Underneath, it can still bother them, especially in mirrors, photos, and social moments. Small adjustments can add up: a hat that becomes a uniform, avoiding photos, staying away from crowds, or hesitating before meetings. Dr. Shintre believes shame and fear of what others will say can stop people from asking for help. A supportive partner or friend, and a willingness to talk about it, can make it easier to take care of yourself. Dr. Shintre starts by understanding a person’s story and expectations, from wanting to look like their twenties to simply looking presentable on a video call. He reviews medical history and explains the options, including surgical and non-surgical paths, so people can make choices that match their goals, budget, and time. Food Safety Anxiety: Easing the Mental Load With Jordan Robinson
2026/10/13
You are standing in the grocery aisle, phone in hand, and you see another headline about a food recall. Did I buy that? Is it still in my kitchen? Is my family okay? It is a small moment, but that kind of worry can come back again and again. Because it looks like being careful, we do not always recognize it as anxiety. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Swati talks with Jordan Robinson, a software solutions architect and father of two, about the mental load of keeping ourselves and our families safe in a world with more information than anyone can follow. Jordan shares how his background in cybersecurity led him to build Anxin, a food safety app, after he could not find anything like an antivirus for food. He talks about parenting, celebrations, and why a bad food experience can overshadow a memory. He also shares how he handles his own stress by expecting that something will go wrong, then meeting it calmly, and how he stays grounded by appreciating the moment. About the Guest: Jordan Robinson is a software solutions architect with a background in cybersecurity and information security, a father of two, and the founder of Anxin, a free food safety app for families. Anxin is also known as Piece of Mind, and it brings public recall notices, restaurant inspection information, and ingredient checks into one place. Jordan shares his story from his own experience and perspective. His views here are not medical or food safety advice. Key Takeaways: Food safety anxiety often hides inside responsible behavior. Checking, double-checking, and scanning headlines can quietly become a mental load. The basics still matter, such as washing hands, checking dates, and cooking food properly. Jordan sees extra layers of awareness as a way to add protection, like defense in depth in cybersecurity. Jordan sees the information about recalls as scattered and sporadic. He built his app to gather it in one place and match it against what is in your kitchen. The mental effort of remembering, checking, and cross-referencing is the heavy part. Sometimes the answer is a simple system instead of more information. A bad experience with food can overshadow a celebration. Jordan hopes knowing about recalls and restaurant inspections helps people protect meaningful moments. Jordan says he does not run ads or sell user data, and he shows his sources so users can check the original information for themselves. His app also points toward community options, including farmers markets, food trucks, and food banks, for people who want support or want to give back. To handle stress, Jordan expects that something will go wrong at some point in the day, so a challenge feels less like a surprise and more like something to handle. To stay grounded, he practices appreciating the present moment and the people around him, instead of being pulled too far into the past or the future. Swathi’s closing thought: not everything needs to live in your head. Putting a good system in place, asking for support, and giving yourself permission not to remember everything is also self-care. Nervous System Regulation for Couples With Dr. Steve McGough
2026/10/13
We talk a lot about managing stress. We sleep, exercise, and take breaks. But what happens when your body never quite gets the message that it is safe to slow down? You can look like you are functioning perfectly on the outside while your body quietly holds tension underneath, and it often shows up in our closest relationships. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Swathi talks with Dr. Steve McGough, co-founder of Women and Couples Wellness, about nervous system regulation, recovery, and connection. Dr. Steve shares signs that your body may not be recovering, such as shallow breathing at the end of the day and waking at 3 or 4 in the morning with a racing mind. He explains how long-term stress can leave both partners primed to take offense, and why setting aside one time a week to focus on your partner can help. He walks through a simple five-minute reset breath, how to stack it onto a habit you already have, and what realistic progress looks like for couples who have lived with stress for years. About the Guest: Dr. Steve McGough is the co-founder of Women and Couples Wellness and the inventor of the hi® massage system. His background includes nutritional biochemistry, neuroscience research, and a doctorate in human sexuality, and he has spent more than sixteen years teaching individuals and couples about nervous system regulation and intimacy. He and his wife Wendy teach live classes online. Dr. Steve shares from his own experience and perspective, and his views here are not medical or clinical advice. Key Takeaways: Functioning is not the same as recovering. Many people carry muscle tension and stress so constantly that it feels normal. Dr. Steve points to a few signs worth noticing: difficulty taking a deep breath at the end of the day, still feeling anxious and revved up, and waking at 3 or 4 in the morning unable to settle. Modern stress is often abstract and long-term, such as work, money, and worry about loved ones, so the body can stay in a state of alert. When both partners come home primed to notice threats, small comments can feel like criticism. Much of how we relate to a partner is learned in childhood, often by modeling our parents without realizing it. If one partner works long hours, Dr. Steve suggests setting aside at least one time a week to focus only on the other person and help them relax. Finding a way to laugh together, such as a comedy or laughter yoga, can break the stress of the day. Try the reset breath: inhale fully, take a little more air, hold for a few seconds, then exhale slowly, about three times as long as you inhaled. Repeat ten times or for five minutes. Make it stick by tracking it for a month on a notepad by your bed, and stack it onto a habit you already have, like brushing your teeth. Write down evening worries so you do not have to hold them in your head. You can deal with them better in the morning. Signs of progress can be small: deeper sleep, getting along better, and looking forward to caring for each other. Break Repeating Patterns: Why Insight Isn’t Enough With Michael Lauria
2026/10/13
You can describe your pattern perfectly. You can explain where it came from and trace it back to childhood. And yet you still do it again. If understanding were enough, why are so many insightful people still stuck? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Niharika talks with Michael Lauria, a qualified therapist, author, and philosophical mythologist, about what sits underneath our patterns. Michael shares his idea that sacrifice is the pattern underneath all patterns, and that many of us sacrifice incoherently, choosing belonging over what is true for us. He talks about why change feels so costly, how childhood survival strategies keep running into adulthood, and why he looks at the load-bearing walls of a life: work, family, relationships, and money. He also explains how his work is organized into three movements, and how The Atlas, a free guided conversation, helps people name the one pattern running through their life. Niharika closes with a small practice to try this week. About the Guest: Michael Lauria is a qualified therapist, author, and philosophical mythologist. After about twenty years working with people in the therapy room, he stepped away from his practice and created The Codex of the Architect, a body of work of 33 books in three movements, plus a podcast, The Architect Speaks. He also created The Atlas, a free guided AI conversation that ends with a written record of the pattern a person describes. Michael shares his views from his own experience and perspective. The Atlas is not therapy and is not for crisis. Key Takeaways: Insight and self-awareness matter, but for many people they are not what creates change. Michael describes clients who could explain themselves perfectly and still felt stuck. Michael’s central idea: sacrifice is the pattern underneath all patterns. Every choice sacrifices the other options, and many of us make those sacrifices unconsciously. He describes choosing for love and belonging instead of for coherence, meaning what is true for you, as a quiet form of self-betrayal. Keeping the peace, staying quiet, and not rocking the boat can look like kindness. Michael asks us to notice what they cost. Not changing is also a choice, and a conscious sacrifice. Naming the cost of staying the same is part of choosing. Many of our patterns began in childhood, when we learned which parts of ourselves earned approval, safety, and love. Those survival strategies can keep running decades later. Michael invites you to look at the load-bearing walls of your life, such as work, family, relationships, and finances, and ask what you control and what you only hope for. Another question to sit with: which beliefs and obligations are inherited, and what do you do out of duty and later resent? Trying something different, even once, gives you new evidence about yourself. Michael calls these cells of recognition. The real work, in Michael’s words, is not about adding more to you. It is about taking away what is not yours. Try this week: say no to something you would normally agree to, just once, and notice what happens inside you, not the other person’s reaction. Digital Burnout and AI: Finding Direction With Michael Earls
2026/10/13
Something strange has happened in the last few years. The pace of change around us has quietly outrun the pace at which the human nervous system was designed to absorb it. We pick up our phones a hundred times a day, move between a dozen contexts before lunch, and then wonder why we feel scattered, why we feel an exhaustion no amount of sleep seems to fix, and why we feel less like ourselves than we used to. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik talks with Michael Earls, an enterprise cloud and AI transformation leader who works inside the technology world and asks what all this speed is costing us as people. Michael shares what he has learned from watching several major technology shifts, and why he believes the hardest problems were never really technical. He talks about turning off notifications, finding a quiet morning hour to think before the day begins, and following a daily North Star instead of the loudest ping. He explores the difference between productivity and wisdom, why humans are not meant to run 24/7 like servers, what leaders quietly lose when they are always accelerating, and why connection with other people still matters most. A gentle note: Michael shares his professional perspective and personal habits. His views are his own and are not medical or clinical advice. About the Guest Michael Earls works in enterprise cloud and AI transformation and writes about cloud, AI, and the human side of leadership. He is the author of The Digital Compass, Finding Direction in the Age of AI, and Wired for Purpose, a devotional for IT professionals. His writing carries a line that frames this conversation: technology can accelerate production, but it cannot replace wisdom, reflection, or emotional honesty. Michael shares his perspective from his professional experience, and his views are personal and not medical advice. Key Takeaways When technology accelerates, you can either keep up or slow down. Michael’s view is that the hardest problems were never really technology problems. Speed without direction is just noise. A good first step is to figure out what is driving your North Star, and to reduce the noise coming in. Turn it off. Silence notifications and alerts one at a time, and notice how your focus starts to return. Protect a quiet hour. Michael wakes at 5:30, works out, and sits with coffee and no screens to think before the world wakes up. Everyone’s time will look different. Scrolling before bed keeps the mind switched on. Michael links this to poorer rest, though he is sharing his own view and not medical advice. The job of a leader is to create clarity where others see confusion. Technology can accelerate movement, but leadership provides direction. Being busy is not the same as being productive. Michael worries that humans are starting to behave like machines, copying, pasting, and moving files, when we are built for emotional intelligence and connection. Casual connection matters. The office coffee machine, he says, was never just about the coffee. It was about kinship, ideas, and meeting people where they are. Machines run 24/7. Humans are not built to. We need time to ourselves away from technology. Manage your calendar, set a daily goal, and try pen and paper. Checking off a written list can feel productive without pulling you back into the screen. His closing advice: help people find clarity and direction, mentor someone, and help fill someone else’s cup. People still need people. Hypnotherapy for Limiting Beliefs: Waking Up With Andrew Parr
2026/10/12
Most of us walk around assuming we are awake. We go to work, we make our choices, and we tell ourselves we are choosing freely. Then something stops us in our tracks. We catch ourselves repeating a pattern we swore we would never repeat, or believing something about our own worth that we would not recognize as our own voice. How much of my life am I actually choosing, and how much is old programming I picked up before I was old enough to refuse it? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik talks with Harley Street hypnotherapist, psychotherapist, and author Andrew Parr about exactly that. Andrew explains what hypnotherapy is and is not, and why he thinks of his work as helping people come out of a kind of waking trance rather than putting them under. He shares the core feelings he sees beneath many surface problems, why people resist looking within, what living on old programming looks like in an ordinary day, and the first small signs of waking up. He also offers two gentle practices: asking yourself what you are afraid of, and observing yourself with kindness. And he opens up about how he holds space for so many people without burning out. A gentle note: Andrew shares his professional experience and personal views. Hypnotherapy and the ideas discussed here are not a substitute for medical or psychological care, and are not medical or clinical advice. About the Guest: Andrew Parr is a Harley Street hypnotherapist, psychotherapist, coach, and counsellor with more than thirty years of experience and thousands of one-to-one consultations. He is the founder of the Andrew Parr Academy, where he trains practitioners, and the author of The Real You, published by Penguin Life. Andrew shares his perspective from his professional experience, and his views are personal and not medical advice. Key Takeaways: Hypnotherapy is often misunderstood. Andrew describes hypnosis as something we do to ourselves whenever we accept an idea from parents, culture, school, or authority without questioning it. His approach is to help people find the cause of a thought, feeling, or behavior and gently undo it, rather than put a new idea in from the outside. Recognition can arrive with a burst of emotion, tears or even laughter. Andrew compares it to taking off a pair of glasses you did not know you were wearing. Beneath very different surface problems, Andrew often finds similar core feelings: not feeling good enough, worthy, safe, or in control, and not belonging. In his view, these are symptoms of a deeper sense of separation from ourselves and from something greater. People often avoid looking within because our fight-or-flight response treats scary feelings like threats. A kind, safe, nurturing space can help. On the other side of fear, he says, is freedom. Old programming shows up as feeling that things are happening to you, triggered emotions, and a sense that something inside has more control over you than you do. A simple first step: notice your feelings and sensations, then ask yourself, “What am I afraid of in this situation?” Try this: step back, observe yourself having the feeling, drop your attention to your heart, and send yourself some love while you feel it. You cannot control the sea, but you can steer your boat. Focus on how you want to feel inside, especially worthiness and enoughness, and keep coming back to it. Nurse Burnout Recovery: Who Holds the Nurse? With Tiffany Smith
2026/10/12
We trust nurses with our bodies, our parents, and our worst nights. They hold the hands of strangers through the hardest moments a human being can have, and then they clock out and drive home in silence. So who holds the nurse? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Nazish talks with Tiffany Smith, a registered nurse of more than fifteen years, about the quiet endurance healthcare asks of the people who give care, and what happens when they finally reach their breaking point. Tiffany shares what she loved about nursing and what it slowly took from her, the kind of burnout that builds so gradually you cannot point to a single moment, and the identity question that follows when your whole sense of self is wrapped up in your work. She talks about how writing her book and founding Broken and Brave Health turned her experience into support for women caregivers, and she offers honest guidance for the people who cannot leave their jobs today: the early warning signs she wishes she had noticed, and her message to anyone running on empty. A gentle note: Tiffany shares her personal experience and opinions about the healthcare system. Her views are her own and are not medical or clinical advice. About the Guest: Tiffany L. Smith, RN, spent more than fifteen years as a nurse across multiple specialties before stepping away from bedside nursing and corporate medicine. She is the author of Broken & Brave: The Fight to Heal American Healthcare and the founder of Broken and Brave Health, which supports women caregivers who are navigating the healthcare system for the people they love. Tiffany shares her story from lived experience, and her views are a personal perspective and not medical advice. Key Takeaways: Burnout is not only about working hard. It can also be about losing the sense of connection and meaning that made the work fulfilling in the first place. Tiffany describes a quieter side of burnout that builds slowly, including a system she felt put profit ahead of people, and growing hostility from some patients and families. Caregivers in healthcare are often taught to sacrifice and stay silent. Tiffany says that culture is contributing to people leaving the profession. When your identity is your job, leaving can feel like losing your usefulness. Stepping away may not feel like liberation right away, and it can take time. Many family caregivers are thrown into an unfamiliar system while juggling work and family, and often have little one-on-one support. Tiffany wants to be “a nurse in their pocket.” If you cannot leave today, Tiffany’s personal advice is to find some emotional distance from each case, stand firmly in your values, and fully step away when you leave the building. She also points to talk therapy and staying physically active. Early warning signs for Tiffany included being unable to turn her mind off after work and feeling compassion fatigue, a growing “I just don’t care” feeling. Coping inside a hard system is not the same as consenting to it. You are more important than your job. Rest, time off, and your own life are not optional. AI and Mental Health: How Technology Forms Us With Rev. Dr. Christopher Benek
2026/10/12
We talk endlessly about managing screen time, as if the problem were minutes. But what if the deeper question is what our phones, our feeds, and our AI tools are making of us? Every scroll, every recommendation, and every AI-assisted shortcut quietly trains our attention, our instincts, and even what we believe we deserve. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik talks with Rev. Dr. Christopher Benek, a pastor and writer on technology and human identity, about formation: who we are becoming in a distracted, always-on world. Christopher shares why he sees AI as a human story and not only a technical one, and how it can quietly pull us away from critical thinking, creativity, empathy, and discernment if we stop exercising them. He talks about the pressure of constant comparison on social media, why feeling “not enough” is a trap, and how a simple daily walk gives him room to center himself. He also explains why resisting an attention economy on willpower alone is unfair, and why the goal is not to avoid technology but to use it with wisdom and to take small, daily steps toward the life you feel called to live. A gentle note: Christopher speaks from his Christian faith and his own experience. His views are his own and are not medical or clinical advice. About the Guest: Rev. Dr. Christopher Benek is a pastor in Miami, a writer, and a speaker who thinks and writes at the intersection of technology, human identity, and what it means to be formed well as a person. He is the author of The Church Leader’s Guide to Artificial Intelligence, a non-prescriptive book with reflection questions and study pages designed to help people discern their own views on AI. Christopher shares his perspective from lived experience, and his views are personal and not medical advice. Key Takeaways: The deeper question is not how many minutes we spend on screens. It is what our digital environment is forming us into. Christopher’s view is that the most immediate AI risk is simpler than science fiction: we may gradually outsource critical thinking, creativity, empathy, discernment, and reflection. Like muscles, they weaken when we stop using them. AI can provide answers, but it cannot provide meaning. It can simulate a conversation, but it cannot replace authentic human connection. Healthy minds need relationship, community, purpose, belonging, and sometimes rest. Social media shows us everyone’s mountaintop moments. Constant comparison can quietly teach us that we are not enough, and Christopher reminds us that you are the only person with your lived experience. Compete with your own past, not with strangers. Christopher ran his first marathon with the goal of finishing, not winning. Platforms are designed to hold our attention, so struggling to step away is not a personal failure. A short break from social media can show how strong the pull really is. Use AI as a co-creator, not a substitute. Ask yourself: am I thinking this through, or just passing the buck? Am I using discernment? Formation happens either by design or by default. You can choose a small next step today toward the life you feel called to live, at any age. Mental Resilience Training for Life With Tyler Wayne Ippoliti
2026/10/12
We train for marathons, presentations, exams, and the careers we want. But nobody trains us for the one thing life actually guarantees: difficulty. A phone call that changes everything. A season where your strength is the only thing between you and the floor. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Nazish talks with coach and personal trainer Tyler Wayne Ippoliti about the idea that resilience is not found in the moment we need it. It is built, rep by rep and choice by choice. Tyler shares how nearly four years on the road in an RV and a serious burn injury taught him that training for life is more than time in the gym. He talks about initiation and rites of passage, why so many of us carry hard experiences with no frame to make meaning of them, and what it means to let an old identity die so a new one can form. He then walks through what holistic health looks like in an ordinary week, from sleep and a quiet morning with the mind to movement, nourishing relationships, and having a strong why when setbacks arrive. About the Guest: Tyler Wayne Ippoliti is a personal trainer, holistic health practitioner, and coach with more than a decade of experience helping people feel more alive. He has trained for around twenty years and offers personal coaching, Rites of Fire retreats and seminars, and holistic health and personal training. Tyler is the author of the book Trial by Fire. He shares his story from lived experience, and his views are a personal perspective and not medical advice. Key Takeaways: Resilience is built, not found. Training for life means preparing the body, mind, and spirit before difficulty arrives. Life will dish up hard seasons whether we choose them or not. What we get to choose is what we do with them. Tyler describes initiation as becoming who you are meant to be. In his view, we can proactively choose and prepare for meaningful thresholds instead of only reacting to what life serves up. Repeating patterns, like the same relationship dynamic or the same money struggle, may be a sign there is a lesson waiting. Tyler shares his teacher’s view that we may not end these cycles, but we can reduce their frequency, duration, and intensity. Retreats, workshops, and meditation can all be valuable. Tyler’s view is that they work best when brought together with a conscious intention to find meaning. Letting an old identity go can feel like grief. Tyler notes that nobody wants to go through that alone, which is why guidance and community matter. Start the day by being with your own mind, whether that is a seated meditation or a walk at sunrise. Tyler also prioritizes early sleep, journaling, creative time, nourishing food, and regular movement. Relationships are part of holistic health. Notice who energizes you and who drains you. A strong why makes resilience possible. When life hits, you can choose to be the author of your experience or the victim of it. Asking what you want the difficulty to mean is a place to begin. Daily Mental Wellness Practice: Try Softer With Kathleen Johnson
2026/10/11
Most of us treat our inner world like the weather. We wake up, check what kind of day it is going to be inside our own heads, and live with whatever we find. But what if mental wellness is not a forecast at all? What if it is a small, unglamorous practice, tended a little every day? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik talks with author, speaker, and podcast host Kathleen Johnson about exactly that. Kathleen shares the season of an unwanted divorce when she first noticed how much fear was running her days, and the quiet conversation that stopped her in her tracks. She talks about the thought patterns we practice without realizing it, how a morning meditation habit slowly changed her default reactions, and where wellness actually lives: in the ordinary, unexpected moments. She also gets honest about the days when the practice slips, and offers a gentle way back that does not turn a hard day into another stick to beat yourself with. A gentle note: Kathleen speaks from her Christian faith and personal experience. Her views are her own and are not medical or clinical advice. About the Guest: Kathleen Johnson is a Christian author, speaker, and podcast host, also known as Scripture Girl. She writes and speaks about Scripture, personal testimony, and renewing the mind, and hosts the Healed to Heal podcast. Before her ministry work she spent years in the advertising agency world. Kathleen shares her story from lived experience, and her views are a personal perspective and not medical advice. Key Takeaways: Mental wellness is not a forecast you check each morning. It is a small, consistent, daily practice, and it pays off over time. Whatever we practice, we get good at. Kathleen describes replaying worry as building a superhighway for anxiety, and says a new practice can slowly turn auto stress into auto peace. Pain can reveal what we have been leaning on. Kathleen realized she had been placing her security in good things, like relationships and hobbies, that were never meant to hold that weight. Decide first. Choosing to live differently comes before you are able to practice it perfectly, and that decision is already a step. Watch for your reactions through the day. Ask yourself: am I responding with peace, or with an outburst? Awareness is where change begins. Unexpected things, like a surprise bill or hard news, are often where we lose the thread. Kathleen’s response is to remember that what we see is not the whole story. On days the practice slips, drop the self-criticism first. Then change your state: close the laptop, take a walk, put on some music. Her one piece of advice: do not try harder, try softer. Ease back, relax, and let your nervous system settle.
